60 Second BriefingChilled FoodsThe rise of meal components
As growth across the UK chilled foods market begins to slow, one
major growth area will be the trend towards assembly cooking. In the
chilled sector meal solutions and components are proving a major
opportunity, posing a significant threat to chilled ready meals in
particular as UK consumers turn towards assembly cooking.
The UK market for chilled foods (as defined by RTS) is currently
worth £18.7bn, with 3.2m tonnes being consumed in the UK in total
in 2008.
In order to maintain market share, RTS believes that manufacturers
must continue to be flexible and respond quickly to changing
consumer trends.
