Biographic Data

Rudolf Werner was born 5 January ]934 in West ,Germany.He has a PhD in Philosophy and studied history, theater andnewspaper science. He entered service with the BND inDr. Werner is currently the Chief of Department One/HumanCollection. He is married and has three daughters.

Werner s previous career was in Field Operations inGermany. For many years he specialized in clandestineoperations into Poland. He was promoted to his present positionover a number of other more senior officers. He isrepresentative of a new generation of BND officers who areexperienced and competent in field agent operations. He isdynamic and innovative in his approach to operations, and hasbeen very receptive to encouragement and advice from CIAofficers in Munich and Headquarters.
