TRANSCRIPT

Ruhr Area Juicy Beats

It is the biggest electronic festival in

North-Rhine-Westphalia.

It has been celebrated for 14 years;

the “juicy sounds” boom through the Ruhr

Area.

There are different types of music

(electronic sounds, drum & bass, world

beat, reggae, indie rock and soul).

It is celebrated every year in late

July/early August.

There are six stages and 14 live DJs.

It goes from lunchtime to night and continues in

the surrounding clubs.

Crotone Area Aurora festival

It takes place

every year in May.

People from

the city and the

surrounding area

reach the headland

of Capocolonna

to watch the music

event at dawn.

Ruhr Area

Prisma Dortmund

There are different theme parties at the Prisma Dortmund, e.g. “Love is in the Air” (the biggest single party), “3-2-1 Party”,”Ladie‘s Choice”.

Sometimes there are live acts like Cascada or Mario.

There are different entrance fees and a minimum consumption requirement, depending on the time people come to the disco.

Crotone Area

Tortuga Crotone

Tortuga is a big disco in Crotone. In summer it is an outdoor disco and in winter it is an indoor disco.

The entrance fee for boys is € 10 and the entrance fee for girls is € 5.

It is allowed to visit the disco at the age of 16. And you are allowed to consume alcohol.

They are playing only house music in that disco.

Sometimes there are very important people.

Teenagers of the “Ruhr Area“ are very

open-minded and like to have fun like

other teenagers around the world.

Furthermore, they spend their free time in

front of a PC (chat, facebook etc…)

and doing a bit of sport. There are

some teenagers who do a part-time job.

At the weekend they

go shopping, go to bars and like to

have barbecue. Family, friends and

good food play a big role in the teenager’s

life. Teenagers in North-Rhine-Westphalia

have dreams, their own needs and wishes

which do not often comply with their

Parent’s ideas. As anywhere else,

teenagers here spend a lot of time

“hanging out” with friends. This, of course,

leads to problems in school or at home.

They often feel misunderstood and they

get the impression that the society does

not care about them. This may, at times,

lead to juvenile delinquency or drug abuse

which are also problems in our region.

For the teenager in Crotone the family is

an important institution there. The young

people live with their parents until they get

married. Moreover, there is a higher level of

education than in the past. In Crotone there is

a low standard of living. The old traditions

and customs are kept. A lot of teenagers

like break-dance. Most of the teenagers

like to swim and drink. The boys like to

play music. Some teenagers like

motocross. The girls like to go shopping

and the boys like football. They meet each

other at the municipal place of the

city, and they also like walking all night

long on the long beach. Girls who are not

in school, are attending courses for

beauticians.

Curry sausage

The curried sausage is a fried sausage

which is usually cut and served with a

sauce based on ketchup or tomato puree

and curry powder. The usual

side dishes are bread rolls or French

Fries. Curry sausage is made from a fried

sausage of the Ruhr Area district and its

meat is not salted and smoked.

The sausage is cut with a machine with

several blades.

Pasta

The pasta is a dish not only typical of

Calabria, but also of Italy in general. It

is a dish made from semolina or flour

of different origin, and is usually

served with different types of sauce

or gravy.

There are several types of pasta, e.g.

the dry and the egg. This is

made with water and dried durum

Wheat and the egg is produced with

semolina and whole eggs instead of

chicken.

Crotone

Italy is one of the best places to watch

and to participate in a Carnival

vacation. The celebration starts in

February and ends before Easter.

It lasts one month with night and day

celebrations, floats, parades, masked

dances and other shows. There is also

special food and wine.

Ruhr Area

In Germany Carnival starts to be

celebrated in November and ends in

February.

Carnival typically involves a public

celebration or parade combining some

elements of a circus, masks and public

street party.

The citizens are dressed up and are

walking around the city to celebrate

the festive season.

Crotone

Their soccer club is called “Football Club Crotone”. Games are taking place every week and people like watching them.

The stadium is called “Stadio Ezio Scida” and has a capacity of 9,631 seats.

Currently, they are playing in Serie B. The team colours are dark blue and red.

Dortmund

The soccer club is called “BVB 09”.

Dortmund is one of the most successful

clubs in German football history. They

are current Bundesliga champions.

Games are taking place almost every

weekend. Since 1974, Dortmund has

played their home games at Signal

Iduna Park. The stadium holds up to

80,000 people.

Crotone At the beginning of the 20th century only

small families ran businesses involved in producing handmade goods or processing agricultural products.

Mills and pasta factories were the most important as they manufactured large amounts of grain grown in the area. They were also specialized in the production of fertilizers.

Then, Calabria changed from an agricultural to an industrial area. The infrastructure was improved, e.g. by a railway line and a harbour. From 1950-1970 the factories increased their production and a couple of years later the area showed a significant economic growth. Crotone became an important industrial centre.

Ruhr Area

The Ruhr Area was an industrial area known for its coal mines. During the time of the Romans, coal was already extracted in the area around Aachen. It is assumed that it happened at the same time in the Ruhr Area.

By 1850, there were almost 300 coal mines in operation in the main cities Duisburg, Essen, Bochum and Dortmund. They were producing iron and steel. In this period the name “Ruhrgebiet” (Ruhr Area) became famous.

Later in the 17th and 18th century the steam engine was invented and improved so they had large pits with engine power instead of small coal mines.

In 1925 coal mines started to be closed due to a shortage of coal and in 2008 there were only 4 mines in operation.

Crotone:

The area is known for its wine which is produced in Cirò. Over 90% of the region‘s production is red wine and only a limited quantity of white wine.

For economic reasons many modern vineyards have abandoned the traditional process and turned instead to the vine training system.

Dortmund:

In 1266 beer was mentioned for the first time. The so-called “Grutbier“ was produced, a mixture of spices.

In 1332 the beer monopoly of Louis IV guaranteed income and wealth. A century later the spice mixture was replaced by hop. During thirty years of war, people changed their drinking habits and therefore the brewing in Dortmund demised.

In the middle of the 19th century the breweries became successful again. The well-known ones are the DAB (Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei) and the Hövels Hausbrauerei.
