» The trail is open year round, dawn to dusk, conditions permitting. Enjoy the trail at your own risk.

» Motorized vehicles are prohibited except for emergency and maintenance vehicles.*

» The trail is available for walking, bicycling, jogging, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

» Horses, buggies & snowmobiles are prohibited.» Soliciting, posting of signs or erection

of structures is prohibited.» All individuals are to maintain appropriate,

respectful behavior at all times. Loitering and/or public disturbances, including lewd or vulgar language and excessive noise are prohibited.

» Pets must be kept on a leash. Owners are responsible for removing all pet waste.

» Keep the trail clean – carry out all waste. » Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. » Smoking and vaping are prohibited.» Use caution when crossing bridges, roads,

and railways, because they are actively used. » Stay to the right and warn when passing. » Do not harass wildlife or disturb natural habitats.» Discharging of weapons on or from the trail is

prohibited as is hunting on or from the trail» Be aware of farm equipment crossing the trail. » All other borough, township and park ordinances

shall be in effect.

* Individuals with mobility disabilities are permitted to use wheelchairs & electric power driven mobility devices with a max. width of 36” and electrical output of 300 watts or less.

Along the Warwick to Ephrata Trail Traveling the Warwick to Ephrata Trail you’ll find that history, nature and interesting sights abound.

Lititz Borough: Fittingly, the WERT begins at Lititz Springs Park, where a replica of the old Reading & Columbia RR station now acts as a visitor center. The park is the site of the oldest continuous 4th of July celebration in the country.

Warwick Township: The Township’s Municipal Campus features parking for the trail along with a number of recreational opportunities, including a bike rental facility and bicycle maintenance station.

Ephrata Township: Now renovated for trail use, the steel bridge crossing the Cocalico Creek is shown here during its construction in 1909, replacing an earlier wooden structure and allowing the Reading & Columbia line to use heavier locomotives.

Akron Borough: A neighbor of the trail has con-structed a whimsical Garden Gnome display along-side the trail to delight children and adults alike.

Ephrata Borough: In Ephrata’s trailside Veterans Plaza, you’ll find a memorial dedicated to Major Richard Winters, whose Easy Company, the “Band of Brothers,” has been famously portrayed in books and movies.

The WERT occupies an abandoned section of the original Reading & Columbia Railroad, which saw its first train in 1863. Built to connect the coal and industries of the Schuylkill River Valley with the Chesapeake Bay, the line once saw as many as 10 passenger trains per day along with numerous freights, like this 1941 Reading RR train near Millway.

Unlike pedestrian crosswalks in urban areas, vehicles have the right-of-way at trail crossings and are not required to stop for you. Be safe! Wait to cross roadways until there is no traffic and you can do so safely.
