Science & Discovery

Discovery Corner

The children were to build a cave/den for the bear to sleep in.

Several recycled materials were used: paper plate, cotton wool, sticks

The children began by cutting the paper plate in half.

A semicircle is cut out of one half of the plate

and turned over to be pasted onto the other half to create a 3D cave.

Crayons, sticks and cotton wool were provided for them to decorate their caves.

Then they colour the sleeping bear provided, cut it out, fold the ends (for the pop-up effect)

and paste the bear inside their caves!

Fun & Movement

Mass Activity

A game to test listening and observation skills as well as reaction time.

The children were divided into pairs/groups of three and sat in a circle.

A child is chosen as the first runner.

The runner then runs and sits in front of any pair/group.

The last person of the group will then become the runner and run to find a different group.

More runners were sent out and the children had to be very observant!

This game also helps to develop the awareness as they look to see if they are the last person.

Some runners sat at the back of the group…

While some of the children in the middle ran off, thinking that they were the last.

The children learn to be aware of their surroundings.

Each child was tasked to run through the maze to find the ball.

With the ball on hand, run out of the maze and squat at the bottom of the slope.

Then, roll the ball uphill to the teacher and run back to base through the maze.

The children learned to exert more strength with a second try as the ball rolled back down without reaching

the target point.

Aesthetics (Cooking)

One of our favourites and they simply love their pizzas … QED ! (quite easily done …)

Ingredients – tomato paste, sausages, onions, pineapple and slices of French loaf

The Peace & Joy children were given the

additional task of cutting up their own sausages, “thin slice, please”, reminded Teacher.

Observed that they were quite adept with their cutting skills – one hand with the knife

and the other firmly holding the sausage to be cut …

Much concentration is needed to spread the tonato paste to cover the entire slice of bread

Carefully they would spread the ingredients … the Peace and Joy children did 3 slices each

and they had to ensure that the ingredients were sufficient for al the slices …

Haha! Some ended with none for their last slice of bread!

Ready with our 3 slices to be transferred to the communal baking tray; topping with mozzarella cheese

Yes, the Peace and Joy children learned that there are different types of cheese e.g.

we are using the shredded Mozarella which is chewy and is used for pizzas;

the slice cheese to make our cheese sandwich;

then they come in different shapes and colours; etc.
