Rural Administration

Divisions 1. A Country divided into many states.

2. All these States consists of many districts.

3. The districts are divided into Tehsils or Taluka.

4. Every Tehsils are a collection of small towns and villages

5. Most of the lands in villages are used for farming.

Land Records

How are Land Records maintained? 1. Government in responsible for

maintaining proper and accurate

land records.

2. The Village Patwari does the task

of maintaining land records and

collecting Revenue (tax) from the farmers.

3. The Patwari is also known as :

Lekhpal,

Kanungo,

Village officer.

4. The Patwari maintains land records by measuring the plots

(land).

Khasra Record Usually a Khasra report is maintained which gives information

about the owners of different lands.

A Khasra number is a plot number given to a specific piece

of land which is owned by a villager or a community.

This information is crucial to farmers who need to produce

their land records at the time of land division or during

buying or selling of land.

This land record work is monitored by the Revenue

department of the Government of INDIA.

Maintaining Reports The Patwari reports to the Revenue officer at the district level who

is also known as the Tehsildar.

The Tehsildhars of different districts report to the District Collector .

The Tehsildhars supervise the work of the Patwaris and see that the

land records are properly maintained and revenue is collected.

The Tehsildhars also provides the copy of the land records to the

farmers.

Hindu Succesion Amendment Act 2005

DO women get a share of the land? Hindu Succesion Amendment Act, what?

Until some years ago, only men used to own Agriculture lands!

Women worked in the fields but they did not own the property.

However, in 2005 the Hindu Succession Act was amended.

Whenever there is a land division now, women are also given an

equal share along with the other male members of their family.

Land Disputes • Whenever there is a Land Disputes, the Police get involved.

• A police station has a certain area under its control.

• With the help of Patwari they resolve the problem

• It Is their duty to file a case.

It is important for the government to

maintain proper land records.

The land record work comes under the

Revenue Department of the Government

of India

The Patwari maintains land records and

collects revenue.

The Tehsildar is a land revenue officer at

the District level, he supervises the work of

the Patwari.

As per the Hindu Succesion Amendment

Act, women in India get a share of in their

family’s agriculture land.
