STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

Oil and gas remain the basis for Russia’s economic development and prosperity. Geological

prospecting is therefore a strategic priority. New fields need to be detected and explored to

maintain the country’s current output and leading position. IGSS is proud to play its part in

sustaining the country’s future. We provide the full spectrum of seismic exploration services in

each of the major Russian hydrocarbon provinces.

OUR CUSTOMERS

Boasting a diverse customer base, we have built up strong relationships with all the significant

users of seismic services in Russia. We realize the challenges of the market and the growing

needs of our clients, and we are doing our best not only to keep up with the times but to be

one step ahead.

We work closely with the country’s largest privately owned companies and the Russian

government agencies responsible for publicly funded geological exploration. We particularly

benefit from our strong relationships with state-owned oil and gas companies including OAO

Gazprom and OAO NK Rosneft.

GENERAL INFORMATION

• The Russian economy’s growth over the past ten years has been primarily driven by increased

energy exports. This in turn is a result of increased oil production and the era’s relatively high

world oil prices;

• In 2013, Russia was the world’s second largest oil and natural gas producer, behind only

Saudi Arabia. Russia also has substantial proven hydrocarbon reserves.

RUSSIA OIL PRODUCTION (mm tonnes)

Page 7: RUSSIA KAZAKHSTAN IG SEISMIC SERVICES PLC NBC (NICOSIA) BUSINESS …gseis.ru/upload/documents/iggs broschure eng.pdf ·  · 2014-10-26IG SEISMIC SERVICES PLC NBC (NICOSIA) BUSINESS

POSITIONED TO CAPTURE FAVOURABLE MARKET DYNAMICS.

SIGNIFICANT EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY

REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN RUSSIAN PRODUCTION

• Vast majority of Russian production comes from increasingly

mature fields discovered and in most cases developed dur-

ing Soviet period.

• Falling returns from simple optimizations.

• Maintaining or growing production will require exploration

and development of frontier provinces and increased use of

complex services in brownfield.

• Maintaining production a key priority for Russian govern-

ment.

• Series of tax benefits already introduced (frontier regions,

mature fields, complex fields, viscous oil).

• Energy Strategy provides for massive increase in spending

on exploration.

PRODUCTION OUTLOOK

• Western Siberia — the country’s most important

hydrocarbon producing province, where the majority of fields

have already been developed. We use complex oil field

services, including horizontal drilling and tertiary recovery.

These techniques help maximize the recovery from mature

fields and increase production from challenging reservoirs.

The incentive to use these new techniques has been

supported by favorable tax treatment.

• Increasing exploration and development activity in frontier

areas with limited infrastructure and challenging operational

environments, e.g. East Siberia, Yamal-Nenets, Timano

Pechora

MEDIUM TERM

In the medium term, the bulk of gas production is expected

to originate primarily from mature Western Siberian

fields including Medvezhye, Urengoiskoye, Yamburgskoye

and Zapolyarnoye. Large fields awaiting development in

the Yamal Peninsula will also be explored. Finally, the

Shtokmanovskoye development in the Barents Sea and

various large fields in Eastern Siberia also offer significant

production potential.

LONG TERM

Longer term, the development of unconventional resources

has major potential. Oil from shale formations in Western

Siberia and projects in the largely unexplored Arctic offshore

are two prominent examples.

BROWNFIELD OPTIMIZATION AND NEAR-FIELD EXPLORATION IN MATURE PROVINCES

• Increasing use of seismic services at mature fields – to maximize production at developed

reservoirs and for development of more difficult reservoirs which have so far not been devel

oped;

• Large areas of key provinces (e.g.Western Siberia) very underexplored by international

standards.

16 SERVICES

COOPERATION WITH SCHLUMBERGER

• Close business relationships with Schlumberger (IGSS shareholder);

• Access to Schlumberger’s state-of-the-art technologies, including six-year access to UniQ

technology (data acquisition) and Omega 2 (data processing), an exclusive for Russia;

• Joint marketing and 3D seismic survey projects on the Russian shelf and some CIS countries.

The alliance between IGSS and Schlumberger enjoys the following advantages for the imple-

mentation of seismic offshore projects on the Russian continental shelf:

• High standards of safety and efficiency;

• Partnership and support of the leading international oilfield service company;

• Provision for a complete cycle of offshore seismic data processing and interpretation;

• Large volumes of work over the short term without any loss in quality;

• Expertise in work lacking any geographical or climatic restrictions;

• Extensive proven experience for 3D work in the Arctic;

• Good reputation with Russian and international oil and gas companies;

• Possibility of fulfilling all types of combined fieldwork, including the deep sea, transit zone

and onshore portions. This includes “seaming” of the acquired data;

• State-of-the-art equipment and software; implementation of new technologies and the cur-

rent innovations in the market.

UNIQ TECHNOLOGY

UniQ technology, combined with proper design engineering and operation, can address vir-

tually all land seismic challenges that are not related to the physical restrictions of seismic

acquisition. The high-channel-count point-receiver structure with a wide frequency bandwidth

significantly increases point density, making results that are more accurate and less

unambiguous. The technology cannot be declared more or less efficient for specific layers

or collectors. The most appropriate method should be selected for each specific region. The

application of a new technology has no impact on seismic vibrations or the principals of layer

separation by their acoustic properties. Advanced tools and methodology improve the quality

of the land seismic signal and the noise acquired, and can be used even in challenging environ-

ments. We believe that the UniQ technology is perfect for land seismic acquisition operations

performed by our customers in areas with complex geologies, such as thinly bedded and

lithologically inhomogenous collectors, the low acoustic impedance of productive and non-pro-

ductive subfaces, low-relief tectonic dislocation separating the field into blocks, salt-dome

tectonic and subsalt structures, steep pitches, overstep and other high-amplitude tectonics,

complex near-surface sections or mosaic relict permafrost.

TECHNICAL ASSETS

One of the main objectives of IG Seismic Services is to upgrade its technical facilities

because advanced machinery that is compliant with the most recent geological prospecting

requirements is essential for high accuracy and reliability.

Our crews use the latest seismic technology and are capable of operating in all terrains. We

also have extensive experience of transferring equipment from Russia to other geographies.

The type of equipment used to acquire seismic data has a direct effect on the quality of seismic

data ultimately obtained. The specific equipment consists of three principal categories: seismic

signal sources (such as explosive, vibration, electromagnetic or high pressure pulse), a grid of

geophones and a recording system.

The equipment required varies from region to region and is dependent on the survey area’s

surface and geological conditions.

IG SEISMIC SERVICES FACILITIES ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE FOLLOWING SYSTEMS:

• Approximately 141 seismic vibrators (NOMAD-65, AHV-IV, X-Vib, KZ- 28 and others);

• 176 Yenisei pulse sources (KEM-2, KEM-4, SEM-100, VEM-100, etc.);

• 609 drilling units (URB-4Т, USH-2Т, РВU-2);

• 394,752 channels;

• Advanced support machinery: bulldozers, cross-country vehicles, oversnow vehicles, tractors

and trucks.

Once acquired, seismic data needs to be manipulated into a

dataset. This can be used to infer the subsurface structure

and produce visual outputs. After the data has been

processed by geophysicists and engineers, it is subject to

interpretation by experienced professionals. They use it to

draw conclusions about the geology of the surveyed area.

The key competitive advantages in this market are local

knowledge, access to data processing technologies and the

expertise to interpret data.

IGSS offer a large range of 2D and 3D seismic data processing

and interpretation services, including the rendering of

complex geological oil and gas field models. This division also

develops oil and gas field exploration strategies based on

hydrodynamic models.

Our DP&I department uses the latest technology software

systems, some of which are developed in-house. They

also have access to certain Schlumberger group software,

including Omega 2 and Petrel.
