Movers and shakers came together to discuss strategies on 16 January at Process Division Services in

Rustenburg. Their aim was to carefully reflect on 2017 in order to maximise mining in 2018.

A holistic approach to the mining industry, including safety, health and wellness, occupational hygiene, environmental performance, quality and risk assessment, was discussed.

Griffith presented the platinum and gold certificates alongside the general managers of the relevant operations.

“Without our employees, nothing is possible. It is our people who provide the knowledge and skills necessary to keep things running smoothly,” said Griffith.

Executive head of human resources Lorato Mogaki closed the ceremony, reminding the recipients that their dedication and professionalism set them apart and that they had made a significant difference to Anglo American Platinum. “It is a privilege to give you due recognition and honour,” she said.

In a bid to bring new business to its host communities, Anglo American Platinum and Yokogawa South Africa forged a partnership through 3E Control and Instrumentation.

3E Control and Instrumentation, a BEE compliant company, will compete in the industrial automation industry.

It offers a wide variety of products and services: field instrumentation, analytical instruments, control systems, information management solutions as well as chemical and industrial engineering services.

Fifteen percent (15%) of 3E Control and Instrumentation’s shares are locally owned by Lesley Kennedy Pholose who is actively involved and was born and bred in Rustenburg’s cluster 1 community.

“This is one of the many ways Platinum works to increase

local economic development and increase revenue and job creation for the Rustenburg community,” said Donald Mokomane, Platinum’s supply chain manager, BEE and local procurement.Theko Letsie, business development director at 3E Control and Instrumentation, said: “Our duty will be to ensure that we offer a lasting, service-orientated service to Platinum’s clients. I look forward to being part of this strategic partnership.”

Platinum employees get free voluntary counselling and testing (VCTs)

A quick finger-prick test can show your HIV status and you can get treatment at once if you test positive.

In a bid to raise awareness among learners about HIV/AIDS, the day started off with a candle-lighting ceremony. Local traditional dancers entertained the guests and children from the village performed a play about HIV/AIDS, the process to follow after being diagnosed as HIV positive, and how to lead a longer, healthier life.

In support of World AIDS Day on 1 December, Bothitho Ba Phothemfi Home-Based Care

centre, its project manager Pauline Tladi and local volunteers, held an open event at Tlhage Primary School on 7 December to promote getting tested for HIV. Members of the community were invited to get free voluntary counselling and testing (VCT).

The main public health challenges facing Platinum and its

employees are HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB), diabetes and hypertension.

HIV/AIDS has serious medical, social and economic implications for employees and their families, for communities and for our company. Platinum manages HIV/AIDS as an integrated response, including prevention, care and support. Platinum offers comprehensive health services for HIV/AIDS care and HIV prevention to all employees and offers free voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) to all our employees and contractors.
