Thank you for your interest in our rescue training products.

Whether you are a rescue professional or volunteer, trainer or occupational health manager you will appreciate the value of the products in this catalogue.

The use of healthy volunteers to act as the victim in your rescue training scenarios is obviously limited. Most volunteers object to being buried under a ton of concrete rubble, placed deep within a foul sewer pipe or dumped offshore in a rough and cold sea.

That’s where our manikins come into their own...

We have been manufacturing rescue training manikins at our factory in North Wales for over 30 years and are now recognised as the leading manufacturer of rescue manikins in Europe and increasingly around the World. The product range of 26 different manikin models should ensure that we have a manikin to suit your scenario.

Clearly you need a manikin that realistically simulates a real casualty with body weighting that is anatomically correct and that can be placed in scenarios too dangerous for live volunteers such as rough, cold open water, extreme entrapment weight or high temperatures – but crucially the manikin itself must not expose the rescuer to risk of personal injury through it’s design. We have achieved this objective.

Anatomically correct weighting that simulates the body weight distribution of a real casualty.

An uncannily realistic life-like soft feel.

Specific models designed for different rescue scenarios.

No hard limb-joints means no pinch welts for trainees.

Designed to withstand heavy concrete slabs, steel girders or a vehicle laid on them for realistic and challenging rescue training.

Very durable construction that will ensure years of use.

General Purpose

The General Purpose manikins are our most popular models for common rescue scenarios such as working at height, confined space, fire, urban search and rescue, road traffic accident and any general rescue & handling exercises.

The General Purpose manikins are ideally suited for rescue scenario’s such as height, confined space, crush, usar, rtc etc. They have anatomically correct weight distribution and the uncanny ‘feel’ of an unconscious patient. Tough enough to be buried under a concrete slab, steel lintels, trees or have motor vehicles laid upon them, they can present realistic scenarios for rescuers..

Colours may vary.

The body carcass is heavy duty rot-proof canvas with all seams double stitched. High density polypropylene webbing provides extra strength and durability, especially at the high stress points. Protective, machine-washable cotton polyester overalls reinforced with the same webbing are available for all sizes of manikin. The ends of the adult overall arms are further protected with nylon reinforced PVC.

All manikins of 20kg and over are supplied complete with rubber boots. Where the exercise involves constant dragging of the manikin we recommend fitting the accessory Drag Protectors for additional protection. The shaped head allows the fitting of all types of immobilisation collars. A face and wig hood is available as an accessory. These manikins can safely be used in scenarios with temperatures up to 100ºC.

The General Purpose manikin is ideally suited for predominantly dry rescue conditions. If it gets wet it needs to be hung in a dry airy place to dry before storage. For a wet environment rescue scenario, such as a chemical spillage where the manikin may be doused, or storm drain or cave rescue where the manikin needs to lay constantly in foul or damp conditions we recommend using the HazMat rescue manikin.

The General Purpose manikins, which are used extensively by the military, have been issued with NATO Stock Numbers.

Available in seven sizes and weights, from the baby 5kg up to the very heavy 100kg adult.

The Hazmat manikin, a variant of the General Purpose manikin, is specifically designed for more extreme rescue scenarios such as hazmat, foul drain, sewer or confined space and toxic scenarios. The body carcass is made of nylon-reinforced PVC strengthened with high-density polypropylene webbing with all seams double stitched. The outer overall of high tenacity PU coated polyester 320 gms, as used on our water rescue manikins, is also strengthened with high-density polypropylene webbing and can be machine washed . The ends of the overall arms are further protected with nylon reinforced PVC with vents to allow rapid drainage of wash down water after the exercise.

All manikins are supplied complete with rubber boots. The shaped head allows the fitting of all types of immobilisation collars. A face and wig hood is available as an accessory. These manikins can safely be used in scenarios with temperatures up to 100ºC. Available in three weights, 30, 50 & 70kgs. This is a rugged manikin that will allow rescue scenarios in foul conditions previously impossible with healthy volunteers.

Note: that this manikin has normal weighting so do not put it into deep water - it will sink! For deep water rescue scenarios use the Water Rescue manikin, which is designed to float appropriately.

Multi Trauma

For more complex rescue scenarios the Multi-Trauma manikin offers unique features that allow a variety of interesting rescue training options.

A variant of the General Purpose manikin, the Multi-Trauma manikin has the right arm and right leg (below the knee) cleverly designed to be detachable, simulating a serious trauma or amputation injury to the victim. The removable limbs can also be partially attached using the Velcro at the end of the limbs. Partially attached in this way the limb may fall off during recovery if a thorough injury assessment is not made by the rescuer.

Colours may vary.

87 87

Page 9: Ruth Lee Manikin Catalogue 2013

Additionally, to simulate a traumatic impalement injury an orifice on the left side of the torso allows a fence post, scaffold pole or similar to penetrate through the manikin and be firmly secured to prevent casual removal; the trainees must follow the full procedure for extrication of the patient with an impalement injury. The shaped head provides the ability to fit an immobilisation collar.

Core construction and anatomical weight distribution is the same as the rugged General Purpose manikin making these manikins tough enough to be buried under concrete, have steel lintels, concrete slabs, trees or motor vehicles laid upon them to present realistic scenarios for rescuers.

Supplied complete with rubber boots and a webbing-reinforced polyester cotton protective overall.

Available in 30kg and 50kg weights.

CPR Rescue

For the first time you can simulate a trapped victim and practice CPR realistically in a real rescue scenario - much harder than in the classroom!

Colours may vary.

109 109

Page 11: Ruth Lee Manikin Catalogue 2013

Typically CPR training takes place in the comfort of the training classroom, whereas in reality rescuers may be faced with trapped or confined casualties in aggressive environments. Performing effective CPR under these circumstances may not allow the standard taught CPR methods to work at all. New techniques must be developed and taught to enable rescuers cope with a variety of difficult rescue scenarios.

The CPR rescue manikin is designed around the standard light adult General Purpose manikin with the chest cavity left empty to take a standard simple CPR manikin. This full bodied CPR Rescue manikin is for use out of the classroom. You can now create a CPR rescue training scenario in very difficult situations, eg: confined space, the manikin trapped in or under a vehicle or tree, collapsed building etc. You can imagine the challenge for your CPR trainees coming across this manikin in a situation other than the warmth or cool of the first aid course classroom with it’s flat carpeted floor.

We can supply the manikin complete with the Simulaids Brad CPR torso, but it will accommodate most other manufacturers simple CPR manikin models if you already have one. The CPR torso isn’t actually fixed to the rescue manikin in any way and can simply be lifted out for cleaning or maintenance. The chest cavity of the manikin is also padded all round to protect the CPR torso when used in difficult situations.

Constructed in the same rugged way as the General Purpose manikin and supplied with a cotton polyester overall and standard rubber boots. The complete manikin including CPR torso weighs 20Kg.

This higher specification, flame retardant manikin is a good balance between temperature tolerance, durability, and abrasion resistance. General construction is similar to the General Purpose manikin, using heavy duty canvas, but reinforced with 38mm Nomex® webbing as opposed to the polypropylene webbing found on the general purpose range, which would melt at the temperatures this manikin is designed to withstand.

The outer protective overalls are constructed using a Nomex blend material (the material of choice for most fire tunic manufacturers) which conforms to the EN11612 standard. It is permanently non-flammable and will protect against heat and flames. A separate hood, also made in Nomex completely covers the head and torso for additional protection.

Standard rubber boots protect the feet.

These flame retardant manikins will withstand constant temperatures of 160 C, the average temperature at knee height for ‘hot fire’ cell training (400 C at ceiling height).

Available in 5 weight & sizes from 10kg to 70kg.

Although primarily designed for extreme temperature snatch rescue, these manikins are also tough enough to be buried under heavy objects to present a more complex scenario for rescuers.

Water Rescue

The only water rescue manikin available in the world that realistically simulates both the weight and posture of a casualty in water.

The Water Rescue manikin originally evolved from a collaborative

development with recognised rescue professionals including the

Royal National Lifeboat Institute and the British Navy. It is unique

in realistically simulating an unconscious casualty in the water,

providing a challenging weight to haul out, and yet be light

enough, when dry, to manoeuvre to the scenario.

Now used by NATO, British, US, Australian and European Navies,

Coastguard and Lifeboat crews, Surf Life Saving Clubs, State

Emergency Services and water rescue agencies around the World.

Although the construction of the Water Rescue manikin is similar

in principle to our other manikins, the key difference is the

use of tough nylon open mesh for the body carcass. The adult

manikin is a manageable 40kg when dry but when the manikin

enters the water the nylon mesh allows the water to rapidly

penetrate the manikin, which results in the manikin replicating

the movement, drag and weight of a real casualty in the water

weighing about 80 kg .

When retrieving the manikin the water will flood out through

the nylon mesh carcass thereby presenting a challenging but

manageable recovery weight. The nylon mesh also

allows better ventilation when the manikin is

hung up to dry.

1413 1413

Page 15: Ruth Lee Manikin Catalogue 2013

40 KG20 KG

1.83MThe protective overalls are made of tough high-tenacity PU coated polyester, 320 gms, with high-density polypropylene webbing double stitched in the identified high stress areas.

The overall has nylon mesh pockets in the chest and shin areas which accept layers of buoyancy foam. By moving the foam layers from the chest pockets to the shin pockets you can change the attitude of the manikin in the water from near vertical to horizontal.

The standard ‘Man Overboard’ water rescue manikin is supplied with bright orange overalls and SOLAS reflective tape on the head designed to be as conspicuous as possible, with the front of the head coloured red.

If your training is a more challenging scenario the water rescue manikin is available as a ‘Search & Rescue’ version which has a black overall and a black nylon mesh hood simulating the difficult to see wet-suited victim. A simple accessory, the ‘S&R Black Hoodie’, can quickly convert your orange Man-Overboard manikin to a black Search & Rescue by slipping it over the head and torso to waist level.

The Water Rescue manikin has a ‘wrist’ that allows a rescuer to grasp the wrist as they may with a real casualty when in the water.

A unique feature of the Water Rescue manikin is the strong plastic strips that run internally along the back from the shoulder area to the knee joint, these strips allow forward flexibility in and out of the water, but do not allow the manikin to bend backwards when the patient is lifted from the front. The knees will not flex sideways.

All water rescue training manikins are supplied complete with draining sturdy rubber boots; the boots help protect the legs if the manikin is dragged along the over the beach or rocks. Available as adult 40kg or youth size 20kg (dry weights)

IRB Racing

This manikin was developed as a water rescue manikin for IRB Racing, IRB driver training & tube rescue practice.

The problem for many surf clubs is to find enough willing volunteers to act as a patient for the IRB rescue teams for practice, especially during the colder months - consequently, skill development suffers. Now you can train year round and practice those fast pick ups as many times as you like. This manikin never complains about the cold water, the aching arms and the sore shoulder or jaw from when the rescuer slightly misjudged the pick up. For IRB driver training you can now train in the roughest surf, close to the reef and in the coldest weather.

The construction methods and materials are similar to the standard adult Water Rescue manikin but with the following modifications to make it ideal for the aggressive IRB training application: • Shortened to 1.5m • Dry weight reduced to 20kg, which increases to above 40kg when rapidly pulled from the water • Weight distribution lowered from the torso to the hips to improve stability in a moving sea • Boots removed and replaced with durable PVC sleeves on lower leg. • Arms aloft to simulate a volunteer ‘patient’

For IRB Racing, the manikin attaches to the ‘can’ using a webbing leash with a velcro connection. The leash attaches around the neck of the manikin. As you grab the manikin with your arm through the manikins arms the velcro releases and you drag it into the boat.

Offshore

A multi-use manikin designed for water and general rescue training on offshore platforms and vessels. The P.V.C carcass and increased weight make this model stronger and more suitable for simulating rescues from accommodation areas, engine rooms or drilling platforms - used in conjunction with the tough protective overalls, this model will withstand the rigours of general training.

While this manikin will float well in static water it is advisable to use some form of buoyancy aid in open seas or rough water.

• 60Kg dry weight.

• P.V.C carcass with mesh to the ends of the arms, legs and head to aid drainage.

• Polypropylene webbing loop to the back for hauling.

• The protective overalls are made of tough high-tenacity PU coated polyester, 320 gms, with high-density polypropylene webbing double stitched in the identified high stress areas.

• SOLAS reflective tape on the head.

• Supplied complete with draining sturdy rubber boots; the boots help protect the legs if the manikin is dragged along metal gangways and corridors.

Designed as an amalgamation of the HazMat, General Purpose and Water Rescue manikins - the Offshore Manikin is a versatile product designed for use on offshore platforms and vessels.

Bariatric (Obese)

This is the only rescue manikin in the world to simulate not only the weight of an obese patient but also the flesh bulk and movement experienced with these patients.

Obesity is an increasing problem for Ambulance and Fire crews across the World. Rescue and patient handling teams will need to consider how they will deal with casualties of this size and this manikin will enable realistic training to be conducted.

A Bariatric manikin needs not only to be very heavy but must also have a bulk of flesh that moves and realistically simulates the extra difficulties in manoeuvring these patients.

The design team worked very hard to achieve a ‘fluidity of movement’ with the weight rather than just producing a heavy ‘lump’. This was achieved by using a standard 100kg General Purpose manikin at the core and then fitting multiple extra tailored jacket layers around the manikin. These extra layers alternate between a jacket layer incorporating 0.5kg weights sewn into pockets with a layer integrating foam cushioning of the right flexibility. The result is a bulky flesh weight that moves from side to side and is very realistic.

Colours may vary.

260 KG 180 KG

The Bariatric manikin is consequently very challenging to manoeuvre because it is so heavy and very bulky. It is designed for a team of at least 4-6 people to rescue. It is supplied complete with a strong carrying sheet to assist in carrying and positioning the manikin. Pyjamas can be supplied as an optional extra - these are recommended for hospitals and residential homes.

As with the other manikins, the construction is very rugged making it suitable to simulate the most challenging of rescue scenarios.

Available as a 180kg or 260kg model.

Only by using this manikin will the real life problems encountered with these patients be appreciated, and strategies developed for their extrication and transport. This is a real ‘team effort’ manikin!

Handcuff

Anatomically correct, the 50Kg Handcuff manikin is ideally suited to police and prison services to train for the evacuation of restrained, unconscious casualties in an emergency situation.

Made in the same way as the General Purpose manikin, the Handcuff manikin has slimmer wrists to accommodate handcuffs. The wrists are reinforced with a heavy duty PVC to prevent damage and there is also a PVC removable cuff that will prolong the life of the manikin. Once this removable cuff has been damaged by handcuffs it is easily removed and replaced.

Body Recovery

The body recovery manikin was designed to aid rescue dive teams train to find and recover bodies from any watery situation – often murky, cold water

The Body Recovery manikin was predominately designed to aid Police dive teams train to recover bodies from any underwater situation.

These manikins are constructed as a variant of the standard Water Rescue manikin - but instead of floating, they sink. They are available as either 50Kg adults, 30Kg youth or 10Kg Toddlers. As with the Water Rescue manikins, a reinforced, heavy-duty Nylon mesh is used for the carcass with non-

absorbent closed cell foam for buoyancy.

The adult model weighs 50kg on land but by balancing the buoyancy

against the ballast quantity only around 10kg under the water.

Codes: RLBR RLBR30 RLBR10

The mesh carcass allows water to flood into the body when placed in the water, increasing the mass of the body to simulate the drag and movement of about an 80kg body. The 50Kg model also has Polypropylene strips running from the shoulder area to the knee joint allow forward flexibility in and out of the water, but do not allow the manikin to bend in half backwards when lifting from the front or when using stretchers or recovery devices.

The addition of the facemask and wig gives a realistic look and feel, aiding the identification of a human body in poor visibility - and when the search is by touch only.

The manikins are fitted with protective overalls reinforced with polypropylene webbing and the adult and youth versions are fitted with rubber boots with drain holes.

A lightweight (13.5Kg) manikin for extinguisher and fire blanket training.

The Extinguisher Manikin allows you practice ‘knock down’ drills using fire blankets or portable fire extinguishers when responding to somebody on fire. This manikin can also be used to demonstrate the hazards associated with wearing loose and flammable clothing when near an open flame. The manikins are constructed using a blue Silica material to the front and yellow Kevlar to the back, the Kevlar withstands the wear and tear during the training exercises - they are filled using mineral wool.

This manikin could also be used for practicing boating accidents as it will float for up to 17 hours. A floating manikin dressed in clothes with the chest ignited would create a dramatic effect for any training exercise! The manikin must be thoroughly dried after this sort of use.

Used with a mixture of 50% methylated spirits and 50% lighter fluid, the Fire Manikin is robust enough to withstand over 1,000 ignitions - the fluid should be applied to the protective jacket to greatly extend the life of the manikin. The manikin can be used with or without the supporting stand.

Code: FM

Constructed in reinforced PVC and strengthened with polypropylene webbing, this large bag will

accommodate all the adult sized manikins in the range. The bags provide an excellent solution

to the problems of moving the manikins, with the two strong webbing straps allowing for a two

person lift.

The Shout Box is an interactive voice recorder which allows the instructor to record a message

specific to the day’s training exercise. For example, in a search and rescue exercise, the instructor

can have the manikin call out a pre-recorded message to rescuers or make coughing sounds to

alert the rescuers of its presence. The ShoutBox can emit sounds in a loop or have the message

play by sound activation. The ShoutBox comes complete with hood with mesh front to avoid

distortion of sound and carries CE certification.

These drag protectors will effectively protect the legs of your manikin when used for repeated

drag exercises such as stamina testing of new recruits or refresher courses. Constructed using

tough, heavy duty nylon, the leg protectors include a harness with two ‘dragging’ loops and a

disposable Polypropylene plastic strip which will last for many exercises before needing to be

replaced.

Weighted to either 10 or 20kg, the vest allows the user to adjust the weight of the training manikin

to suit the training requirements. Made in the style of a lifejacket, the vest is secured to the training

manikin using adjustable straps and a quick release clip.

Available with or without a wig, the facemask hood fits over the head of any of our manikins

with a Velcro closure at the back, adding a realism to the manikins which may be useful in some

scenarios. The hood is available in three material variants to suit the model of manikin being

used.

The Search and Rescue hoodie is a simple and effective way of making your orange Man

Overboard manikin much harder to see in the water. It takes a couple of minutes to put on

or take off and is a simple, inexpensive method of increasing the capabilities of your rescue

manikin.

The various overalls used on all manikins are user replaceable should they become damaged or

worn out. Similarly the rubber boots and connecting ties.

For use with all our adult training manikins. The Tabard is made of Polyurethane Coated 2oz

nylon and has pockets to hold disposable or re-useable heat packs. The disposable heat packs

will, after activating, remain at a temperature of between 58°C

and 70° for up to six hours.

This Wheelie bin is a ready to use fire trainer - simulated fire, smoke and sound effects are built

in; simply plug in and the scenario starts.

Easily transportable - Supplied complete with wireless remote - Suitable for in company training.

The Mini-SFTF-trainer makes the smoke flow, temperature and flame processes in a burning

building visible but on a smaller, much more manageable scale. The stainless steel model is ideal

for demonstrating the various training procedures at any outdoor venue and not just the larger

training centres.

The LED silkflame imitates a seat of fire with the help of a combination of a silk cloth, light

and a fan. The 1.5 metre (overall) silkflame is equipped with three colours led light: red,

yellow and blue - the colours can be adjusted to create a blue gas flame or an orange flame.

Simulated ‘extinguishing’ is possible with air or CO2, making the LED Silkcase ideal for

fire exercises.

Spray cans filled with the smell of fire or chemicals.

Smell makes an exercise very realistic.

A diesel engine, barking dog or crying baby - the SoundBox contains 17 sound effects for staging

realistic training scenarios.

This realistic looking gas bottle simulates a gas leakage - opening the tap makes the sound

louder while closing the tap stops the leaking sound.

The internal rechargeable battery pack generates a standby time of about 6 hours.
