SCHEDULINGMASS INTENTIONSOne of the greatest acts of charity is to pray for the living and the dead (a spiritual work of mercy). The greatest and most powerful prayer we have is the Mass, since the fruits of the Mass are the very fruits of Jesus’ redemption. You can schedule a Mass intention for deceased friends and loved ones by calling the parish office at (614)267-9241orbyturninginawrittenrequest.Massstipends(offerings)are$10each.Massintentionscanalsoberequestedforspecialintentions.

IN OUR PARISH

DON’T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR FACE MASK!As you know, people in Franklin County and other hot spot counties, have been ordered to wear face coverings in public spaces. At IC, we are committed to keeping our parishioners safe and remind you to wear your mask when visiting the church.

As we all know, the “social distancing” practices and suspension of gathering for Mass have created unique challenges to theway we practice our faith. During this pandemic, Bishop Brennan asked the Diocese to keep every parish open and every employeeonstaff.Thisextraordinarymeasurehelpedusserveour parishioners with little interruption. Now, it is our turn to support the Diocese and make good on that gift.Through the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, we support the essential ministries and shared services of the Diocese. As believers in Christ, we are inspired to follow His example to love one another. The theme of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, “Living the Joy of the Gospel,” inspires us, as people of faith, to share joyfully, the Good News of Christ. Your gift will support the religious education of ourchildren, theprogramspresentedbytheOfficeofMarriageand Family Life, the education of our seminarians and deacons, ministriesfacilitatedbytheOfficeofSocialConcerns, andmanyother vital programs.TheoverallgoalfortheDioceseis$6.85millionandourparishshareoftheAppealis$145,851.Ifweexceedthisgoal,allexcesspayments received will come back to us and we will put 100% of that for our use. Our response to the Appeal is one way to share our blessings and express our gratitude for those blessings from God.

RCIA NEWS

Congratulations to our newest members Samantha Barrett and Luke Hill, who were received into the Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 during the evening Mass. They are now fully initiated into the Catholic Church. They are excited about beginning their new journey in faith with and among our community of Immaculate Conception Church. Please welcome them and help them feel at home.

THANKS TO THE KNIGHTS AND MEN OF THE PARISH!!We wish to thank the IC Knights of Columbus and other men of the parish who spread mulch under the large climbing toys in the green space. This project is essential to the safety of the children who play in these areas and takes a lot of work. Thank

you for your assistance in completing this task. We especially thank Kurtz Brothers and Jerry Bennett, who donated all of the playground mulch.

PRAYER TOTHE HOLY VIRGINOF GUADALUPE

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe,

Queen of the Angels and Mother of the Americas.

Weflytoyoutodayasyourbelovedchildren.

We ask you to intercede for us with your Son,

as you did at the wedding in Cana.

Pray for us, loving Mother,

and gain for our nation and world,

and for all our families and loved ones,

the protection of your holy angels,

that we may be spared the worst of this illness.

For those already afflicted, we ask you toobtain the grace of healing and deliverance.

Hear the cries of those who are vulnerable and fearful, wipe away their tears and help them to trust.

In this time of trial and testing, teach all of us in the Church to love one another and to be patient and kind.

Help us to bring the peace of Jesus to our land and to our hearts.

We come to youwith confidence, knowingthat you truly are our compassionate mother, health of the sick and cause of our joy.

Shelter us under the mantle of your protection, keep us in the embrace of your arms, help us always to know the love of your Son, Jesus.

Amen.

Immaculate Conception Church July 12, 2020

CATECHISM CORNER: AMEN! CCC# 1061-1065 The Creed, like the last book of the Bible, ends with the Hebrew word amen. This word frequently concludes prayers in the New Testament. The Church likewise ends her prayers with "Amen." In Hebrew, amen comes from the same root as the word "believe." This root expresses solidity, trustworthiness, faithfulness. Therefore, we can understand why "Amen" may express both God's faithfulness towards us and our trust in him. In the book of the prophet Isaiah, we find the expression "God of truth" (literally "God of the Amen"), that is, the God who is faithful to his promises: "He who blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of truth [amen]."

Our Lord often used the word "Amen," sometimes repeated, to emphasize the trustworthiness of his teaching, his authority founded on God's truth. Thus, the Creed's final "Amen" repeats and confirms its first words: "I believe." To believe is to say "Amen" to God's words, promises and commandments; to entrust oneself completely to him who is the "Amen" of infinite love and perfect faithfulness.

The Christian's everyday life will then be the "Amen" to the "I believe" of our baptismal profession of faith: “May your Creed be for you as a mirror. Look at yourself in it, to see if you believe everything you say you believe. And rejoice in your faith each day” (Isa 65:16). Jesus Christ himself is the "Amen." He is the definitive "Amen" of the Father's love for us. He takes up and completes our "Amen" to the Father: "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God" (St. Augustine).

Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, for ever and ever. AMEN.

The Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time This Sunday’s readings speak about God’s Word bearing fruit. The first reading from the prophet Isaiah says; “Thus says the Lord: Just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.” [Is 55:10-11] God’s word will prevail. It will “bear fruit” in our lives. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells the crowd on the seashore the “parable of the sower.” The disciples ask Jesus; “Why do you speak to them in parables?” He explains that “knowledge of the mysteries are hidden” from the crowd, but is granted to them. He says; “…Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.” Jesus then proceeds to explain the parable of the sower to the disciples. The seed on the path represents those who hear but do not understand and the message does not stay in their heart, the seed on rocky ground represents those who are joyous to receive the word, but it does not last and disappears at the first sign of trial. The seed sown among thorns is quickly choked off by anxiety, worry, and worldly cares. But, the “seed sown on rich soil” represents the one “who hears the word and understands it, which indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.” [Mt. 13:1-23] This week we celebrate the lives and ministry of two saints. They each heard the word of God, understood it, and bore much fruit. They yielded a rich harvest for the Lord where they were planted. They are: St. Bonaventure, and Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. Saint Bonaventure (bishop and doctor – [1221-1274]) was “born in Italy, he entered the Franciscan Order and at the University of Paris where he was a lecturer he met St. Thomas Aquinas. He became the minister general of the Friars Minor and a cardinal. Known as the “Seraphic Doctor,” he is considered the greatest exponent of mystical theology in the Middle Ages.” [The Roman Missal] Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha (virgin – [1656-1680]) The daughter of a Mohawk warrior, Kateri was born near what is now Auriesville, New York, and was orphaned by an epidemic of smallpox which left her with impaired eyesight and a disfigured face. When she was baptized at the age of twenty she incurred hostility from her tribe; but she remained faithful and moved to the new Christian colony of Indians in Canada where she dedicated the rest of her life to prayer, penitential practices, and the care of the sick and the aged. She was devoted to the Eucharist and to Jesus Crucified, and was known as the “Lily of the Mohawks.” [The Roman Missal] In and through these people, God’s word did not return void, but achieved the end purpose for which He sent it. --May we prepare the soil of our hearts and minds through prayer, attentiveness at Holy Mass and reading and pondering God’s word daily. May God’s word not return void, but accomplish all that God desires in and through us!-- STUDY/WATCH: FORMED.org: This week’s pick’s “Opening the Word: The Soil of Our Lives” 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Theresa Tomeo – Run Time: 4m 37s “Presence-The Mystery of the Eucharist” – Augustine Institute Studios - Bible Study – 6 episodes – [Study Guide available to download or purchase] – Run Time: 3m 5s “Mary of Nazareth” – LuxVide Films – Run Time: 2h 41m LISTEN/READ: “A Family of Saints: The Martins of Lisieux–Saints Thérèse, Louis, and Zélie” - by Stéphane-Joseph Piat, O.F.M. – Lighthouse Media - Downloadable Book, or Read Online. “St. Kateri Tekakwitha” – Lighthouse Media - Run Time: 28m “The World's First Love: Mary, Mother of God” - by Fulton Sheen – Ignatius Press – Run Time: 11h 31m Audio “Mary: Handmaid of the Lord” by St. Teresa of Kolkata – Lighthouse Media – Run Time: 1h,1m Audio
