RV Winterize Cklst (2003 Winnebago Ultimate Advantage)

To Winterize Motorhome __ Buy 4-5 gallons of pink RV anti-freeze. __ Black & Grey tanks dumped (RV parks for a fee, Flying J Truck Stops, some highway rest areas -- tanks should

be at least 1/3 full before dumping … run water from galley sink to add water to grey tank, commode or bathroom sink to add water to black tank) __ Fresh tank empty (dump valve in service compartment will drain fresh water onto ground) __ Turn on water pump. Open all faucets to remove water from lines. When no water is coming from any faucet, turn off faucets & water pump __ Remove drinking water filter under galley sink. (Place dishpan under filter, raise handle on filter base, twist

filter counterclockwise apx 90 degrees and pull out, lower handle to drain any water in the filter line, raise handle and install diverter plug, then lower handle. Discard removed filter or store in ziplock bag in home refrigerator if you wish to re-use it. Replace filter annually.) __ Disconnect icemaker water line from solenoid to refrigerator inside access panel outside coach __ VERIFY WATER HEATER IS OFF, BOTH ELECTRIC & LP __ Verify LP is turned off at tank valve __ Open water heater pressure relief valve and then remove water heater plug to drain water heater (inspect anode rod for necessary replacement) __ Open system drain valve in water pump compartment until no more water comes out __ Open all faucets, then blow air through water lines via hose reel (w/pressure regulator in place on hose) at least five minutes, then stop air and close all faucets __ Using one finger, press backflow valve in center of city water inlet to drain water from stub line __ Disconnect icemaker water supply line below solenoid inside access panel outside coach and hang line outside access panel hole __ Run icemaker through at least one cycle, then lift bar to “off” position, wipe out tray & empty bin __ Put RV anti-freeze into a CLEAN 5 gal bucket (apx 3-4 gallon) __ Remove cap from winterization intake hose in water pump compartment & secure intake hose in 5 gal bucket of anti-freeze __ Turn manual bypass valve in water pump compartment to bypass position __ Flip winterization in washer closet on (lighted position) (leave bypass switch off) __ Turn on water pump __ Re-connect icemaker lines in access panel when anti-freeze flows out supply line __ Open faucets one at a time until pink anti-freeze flows (outside shower h&c, kitchen h&c, kitchen filtered, bathroom sink h&c, handheld shower, bath tub h&c, commode flush & sprayer) __ Turn off icemaker water supply under galley sink (T-fitting on filtered water tubing) ** To Winterize washer/dryer complete these four steps __ Set washer on HOT & run initial cycle until you see pink anti-freeze in the tub __ Advance washer to drain cycle __ When drain cycle is complete turn off washer, set washer on COLD & run initial cycle until you see pink anti-freeze in the tub __ Advance washer to drain cycle

__ When drain cycle is complete turn off washer, turn off faucets at hose connects & unplug washer __ Remove lint filter to drain any remaining water __ Turn off water pump __ Pour apx 1 cup of anti-freeze down kitchen, bathroom sink & tub drains & close drains __ Flip winterization switch to off (unlighted) position __ Turn bypass valve to normal position __ Replace cap on winterization intake hose & return to stowed position

__ Close water heater pressure relief valve & ensure water heater plug/anode rode is replaced using Teflon tape __ Remove all perishable items and freezable liquids from cabinets and from storage compartments __ Verify all thermostats are set to “off” __ Prop refrigerator open __ Verify all windows and vents are closed, then close all binds __ Flip battery disconnect switch to disconnect position ***********************

While motorhome is winterized, toilet can be “flushed” by tripping the flush lever and using water carried in milk jugs. (Put bags over inside faucets to remind occupants that motorhome is winterized.) Dump black & grey tanks and pour small quantity of anti-freeze down commode & sink drains when returning motorhome to unheated condition.

RV De-Winterize Cklst To De-Winterize Motorhome __ Flip battery disconnect switch to powered position __ Connect outside water line to coach, turn on outside water supply faucet & set water selector switch in service bay to “city fill”

__ Open each drain and each faucet in turn until clear water is running (outside shower h&c, kitchen h&c, kitchen filtered, bathroom sink h&c, handheld shower, bath tub h&c, commode flush & sprayer) __ Set manual bypass valve in water pump compartment to full system position __ Remove water heater plug (visually inspect anode rod), when water runs clear (no pink) replace anode rod using Teflon tape on threads, or use plastic plug in place of anode rod __ Set water selector switch in water service bay to “tank fill” & run a quantity of water into fresh water tank, then return to “city fill” and turn off outside water supply __ Turn on water pump __ Open any faucet to verify all pink anti-freeze is out of the drinking water lines (can visually verify by looking at water lines in water pump compartment also) __ Remove diverter plug from water filter base under sink and replace with good water filter … raise handle on filter base, twist plug counterclockwise apx 90 degrees and pull out, push filter into base and twist clockwise until it stops, then lower t-handle handle to turn on filtered water to check for leaks ** Following steps can be skipped to leave the icemaker winterized __ Disconnect ice maker supply line in access panel outside coach (below/into solenoid) __ Turn on icemaker water supply line in filtered water line under sink __ Re-connect icemaker lines in access panel after clear water is running out of line __ Run ice maker through at least one cycle and discard ice ** Following step can be skipped to leave the washer winterized __ Turn on washer water faucets at supply hoses in washer closet, plug in washer, and set to fill with warm water. When water entering tub has cleared (no pink) advance cycle to drain. (OPTIONAL) Follow below steps to sanitize the fresh water system __ Ensure water heater is off (both electric & LP) and water is cooled __ Fill the fresh water tank to apx 2/3 full __ Do EITHER a or b … NOT both… a. Add 1 ½ teaspoon Sodium Dichlor (Chlorinating Concentrate from hot tub or pool supply store) to fresh water tank via access cap above batteries ** OR ** b. Dilute 1/4 cup of household bleach for each 15 gallons of tank capacity in a gallon of water (1 1/2 cups

bleach in 6 gallons water for 100 gallon tank) and add the chlorine solution to the water tank via access cap above batteries (Never pour straight bleach into the RV water tank) __ Finish filling tank, turn off external water supply, and turn water pump on __ Open one faucet at a time and let the chlorinated water run for one or two minutes. You should be able to smell the chlorine. (Make sure you are using the water pump and not an external water supply) __ Top off the water tank and let stand overnight if possible, but for at least three hours __ Completely drain the system by flushing each faucet for several minutes, open all drains (if any) and hot water

tank drain plug and drain the fresh water tank __ Close all valves and faucets and drain plugs. __ Fill water tank with fresh water and then turn off external water supply and turn on water pump __ Flush each faucet for several minutes each. If using Sodium Dichlor, you are finished. If using household bleach, continue through next two steps. __ Continue flushing faucets until the tank is again empty. (Make sure you are using the water pump and not an external water supply.)

__ Fill the tank again. The water should now be safe to drink but if the chlorine odor is too strong you can repeat the fresh water flush
