This weekend marked the beginning of the second half of our Upward Basketball and Cheerleading season. It is hard to believe that we are so far into our season already. But we have seen God at work in many ways already during this season. The first way God has blessed is by bringing us 389 children on 56 teams to teach basketball or cheerleading and to share the love of Jesus with. That is 61 more kids than we had last year and just one less team than we had between two leagues last season. That increase in children means that somewhere between 1150-1550 people come through the gym each weekend for games played Friday night and all day Saturday. Each of those people presents an opportunity to minister and share the love of Christ. About 16 percent of these families don’t list a church home. That produces a need for numerous volunteers to serve each week. It takes a lot of faithful people willing to do Whatever It Takes™ in order for Upward to run smoothly and efficiently that we might have that opportunity to minister. God has faithfully provided in this area as well with 88 different people serving as coaches, 24 folks who have refereed a ballgame and 16 people who have kept score. About 60 prayer partners faithfully lift up our teams, coaches and leadership each day with many of those attending practices and games to build relationships with these teams in order to invite families without a church home to church and to share Christ. Sunday School classes, deacons, ministers and many others have shared devotions, testimonies and the Gospel with parents, grandparents and siblings during halftime of each ballgame this season. God has also blessed us with the opportunity to share my dad’s story of coming to Christ during some of those halftimes. Numerous others have worked the concession stand. Then there are those folks who sometimes go unrecognized because they do the “little things” like ironing on stars, handing out snacks, working the desk, setting up the gym, taking out trash, and cleaning up. As you can see there are many ways that volunteers are ministering and sharing the love of Christ. Each week coaches build into the players and cheerleaders by teaching them the skill of their sport and sharing a devotion at their practice. The

CARE CENTER NEEDS BABY
CLOTHES The Care Center is in need of baby clothes. All sizes, ages, gender, and season are needed! Your clean and gently used items would be very much appreciated. They can be dropped off at The Care Center Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
devotions are broken down where the kids learn three virtues (honesty, patience, kindness) and a corresponding scripture verse and how to apply it to their life. On game days the children have the opportunity to show the skills they have learned. After each game, they go into one of the many Sunday School rooms on the first floor and are awarded a certain star based on their performance in the game. This is an opportunity for coaches to brag on these kids in front of their parents and grandparents. With the season officially into its second half, we are looking towards our Awards Celebration. Chris and Tara
Masters and I have been planning this since the summer. This Awards Celebration will be a little different from what we have done in the past. On Sunday, February 23 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. we’ll have a CentriKid Camp type service in the Sanctuary with videos, songs, a special message from Alex and more. We believe this will give these families a clear opportunity to begin a relationship with Christ (if they don’t already have one) and connect to the church (if they aren’t already connected to a church). We are inviting all of our volunteers along with church members to join us for this service which will be in lieu of evening worship that night. Join me in praying for the rest of this season and the Awards Celebration.
