Our cars have epitomised luxurious mobility since the beginning of the 20th century.And they have thrilled generations of motorists who have style and great expectations.

The direct genealogy of the S-Class began in 1951 when the 6-cylinder Mercedes-Benz220 model appeared at the first International Motor Show in Frankfurt. Petrol engineThe consumption-optimised petrol engines for the S-Class combine driving enj oyment with environmental compatibility. Innovative Mercedes-Benzengine technology increases output yet reduces CO 2 emissions and fuel consumption to such an extent that the 6 and 8-cylinder units meet therequirements of the stringent Bharat stage IV emission norms.

6-Cylinder Petrol engine: Designed using light-weightmaterials, this powerplant features four valves percylinder and adjustable camshafts. The result is highperformance potential on the one hand and low weighton the other. In addition, the combustion processeswithin the 6-cylinder unit have been optimised toreduce both emissions and fuel consumption. The S 350

boasts a peak torque of 345 Nm and an output of 200 kW (272 hp).

In the event of danger or an accident

Sometimes accidents are unavoidable: for this eventuality, numerous systems have been developed for the S-Class to ensure even greateroccupant protection.

Airbags: A pioneer of automotive safety, the S-Class wasfirst equipped with a driver airbag way back in 1981.A front-passenger airbag was added from 1985 onwards,offering even more effective occupants protection.Nowadays the luxury saloon is equipped with ninesophisticated airbags, which help to prevent injuries inthe event of a collision. Standard equipment includes

two-stage front airbags, sidebags in the seat backrestsfor the driver and the front passenger as well aswindowbags. Whats more, the driver can count on anintegrated kneebag, which offers additional safetypotential in certain situations as it protects the legsand, in particular, the knees in the event of an accident.Rear sidebags are also available, to protect the rearseatoccupants children, for example.

LightSophisticated LED technology enhances the already impressive looks of the S-Class, especially at night. New LED day time driving l ights areintegrated in the front bumper.

Headlamps: The S-Class is equipped with Bi-Xenonheadlamps. And new-look indicators make the careasier to see. Then there are the new LED day timedriving lights which, like the fog lamps, are integratedin the bumper.Tail lights: The tail lights likewise sport a new lookand, thanks to the extensive use of visible LEDs for

Assistance systemsNumerous assistance system help to enhance ride comfort and make life even easier for the driver of the S-Class.

Parking package: The reversing camera providesassistance to make it easier and safer to park in reverseby affording the driver a better view of the area aroundthe rear of the car. A wide-angle lens is installed belowthe boot handle. The reversing camera is activatedautomatically when reverse gear is engaged and filmsthe area immediately behind the car, sending the image

to the COMAND display. The Parking package also featurePARKTRONICS including Parking Guidance. The ParkingGuidance system measures parking spaces automaticallyand helps the driver to find a parking space and to parkin it. The data recorded by ultrasonic sensors are usedto determine whether a parking space is large enough.The parking situation is then shown on the multifunction

display. Yellow markings on the display indicate the paththat needs to be steered, red markings the path that iscurrently being steered. When the two overlap, theyturn green. The PARKTRONICS display also indicatesthe current distance to obstacles.

THERMOTRONIC 4-zone automatic climate control

An ideal interior climate enhances comfort and increases stress-relieving safety in the S-Class. It includes four front climate zones,and two rear climate zones.

The Thermotronic 4-zone automatic climate controlsystem allows the driver and front passenger to adaptthe climate in their respective seats to suit theirindividual requirements independently of each other.It keeps the temperature at the desired levelautomatically, even in strong sunlight. To this end,sensors record the temperature inside and outside the

S-Class, controlling the heating, cooling and fan foreach temperature zone individually, according to

requirements. Even the airflow can be adjusted in linewith individual needs, with a choice of three modes:Diffuse, Medium or Focus. The front footwelltemperature can be adjusted in line with the interiortemperature separately (precisely as required, twolevels warmer or colder). An activated charcoal filterensures that only clean air enters the car. Separate rear

air conditioning is available as an option for the tworear zones. A control unit on the rear face of the centre

console allows the rear passengers to set their preferredclimate individually. As well as offering an automaticmode, the unit features manual controls with whichthe air temperature and distribution can be setseparately for the left and right sides. So there isalways an ideal climate inside the S-Class-in everyseat-enhancing comfort on the one hand and allowing

the driver to concentrate better on the other. For thesafety of all the occupants.

Perfectly concealed beneath an outer skin thatlooks identical to that of the standard - productionmodel lies an integral network of protectivecomponents. The passenger cell is a brand-newdesign from the bottom up and incorporateshighly effective reinforcements with, especially atpoints that are no longer accessible once the bodyis complete. The result, produced in a strictlyscreened production facility, is a protective areaconsisting of high - strength steel, aramid andspecial glass. Like every Mercedes-Benz, theS-Guard needs to pass all the key quality and safetytests with flying colours, of course, not to mentionspecific special - protection tests involvingfirearms and explosives. Only then can it becalled an S-Guardcertified by independentauthorities and forearmed for extreme situations.

An S-Guard includes all the familiar S-Classamenities, of course. Plus all the usual safetycomponents such as the electronic control systems,brakes, chassis and suspension which have beenadapted to take into account additional requirementsdue to the extra weight of the S-Guard. Integrated special protection with the highest level of comfort-the S-Guard.

With the S-Guard based on the V 221 series,Mercedes-Benz offers a special protection vehicle thatperfectly reconciles two aspects which are of decisiveimportance for its target groups: safety and comfort.The key contributing factors are trailblazing technology,superior performance, a spacious interior and a widerange of available appointments. Further developmentof the Mercedes-Benz "integrated special protection"concept has raised the level of protection to a standardunrivalled in the industry, without any significanteffects on design, appointments or comfort.DesignHighest protection in its most attractiveform: Despite the extensive protective measuresaffecting the body, the exterior design of the S-Guardis practically identical to that of the standard model,thereby ensuring the greatest possible discretion.In the interior, the necessary special protectionmeasures have likewise been integrated in such away that the S-Guard meets the highest expectationsin terms of perceived value as well as appointmentsand comfort. The generous spaciousness of the S-Class- especially when entering/exiting - is fully maintained.As most of the security-specific features areaccommodated in the boot, the feeling of spaciousnessand freedom of movement remain uncompromised.

In addition the suspension, brakes and controlsystems such as ESP or ASR have been specificallydeveloped and reconfigured to allow for the increasedweight and vehicle characteristics. Other measuresinclude the extensive quality and safety tests, includingcrash behaviour, rough road simulations andendurance trials under extreme conditions whichan S-Guard model is required to pass.

Superior suspension: Despite the higher vehicleweight, specially reinforced and redimensioned chassiscomponents help to ensure that the comfort, safetyand handling dynamics of the S-Guard meet the highMercedes-Benz standards, and therefore lead the fieldin a competitive comparison. All relevant chassiscomponents, e.g. drive shafts, steering control arms,springs and damper systems have been modified andredimensioned to cope with the extra weight and theresulting changes in physical driving parameters.These modifications include more powerful air springsat the front and additional steel springs at the rear,for example. Like the standard model, the S-Guard isequipped with AIRMATIC, which includes all-roundlevel control, speed-sensitive suspension lowering andthe Adaptive Damping System ADS. Active Body Control(ABC) is not available for the S-Guard.

S-Guard Special equipmentSpecial equipment is available exclusively for S-Guard customers which enables occupant protection and comfort to be enhanced even further.

Reinforced underbody (in conformity with USstandards): Compared with the standard armour, thestrengthened underbody offers enhanced protectionagainst particularly aggressive fragmentation handgrenades. The resistance of the vehicle underbodyarmour has been proven in many blast tests using theUS M67 hand grenade. A layer of shrapnel-absorbingfibre materials covering the entire armour ensures thishigh level of blast protection. The underbodyreinforcement can be retrofitted if necessary.Additional camera for vehicle rear-end monitoring:The camera is integrated in the roof lining, immediatelyadjacent to the rear windscreen. Employing a wide-anglelens, it delivers a video image of the entire area behindyour vehicle in the COMAND display. It also coversareas not visible using rearview mirrors. The imageis displayed in such a way as to replicate the functionof a rearview mirror. For example, this function isavailable provided the ignition is switched on and canbe activated using the TEL/NAVI function key.

Passenger Alarm System (PAS): The Passenger AlarmSystem PAS ensures that the occupants are able toattract attention by triggering alarm signals in the eventof a threat. Communication with the outside world isalso possible with the windows and doors closed.PAS features the following components:

Three keys located in the upper footwell areas of thedriver, front passenger and rear passenger(s), whichactivate an acoustic warning signal and cause theheadlamps and direction indicators to operateintermittently, while locking all the doors

An intercom system consisting of a removable controlunit/microphone in the glove compartment, externalloudspeakers in the radiator area and externalmicrophones in the exterior mirrors, which allowverbal communication with the outside world viathe control unit and the interior loudspeakers.

Emergency fresh air system: An emergency fresh airsystem is available to protect the occupants againstsmoke or irritant gases. This consists of the following: Activation key in the stowage compartment in front

of the COMAND controller (omission of cupholder) Irritant gas sensors near the air intakes for the

climate control systemFully automatic fire extinguisher system: The fireextinguisher system protects the occupants againstfire in the underbody area and engine compartment.Unlike conventional fire extinguishers, this systemoperates fully automatically or allows manual activationby the driver without the need to leave the vehicle.The system consists of the following components: Activation key on the stowage compartment in front

of the COMAND controller Three heat sensors (two in the engine compartment,

one in the area of the fuel tank) Two fire extinguisher canisters (aerosol) behind the
