In our First Reading we hear of the results of Adam and Eve’s act of disobedience in the Garden of Eden. A Reading from the Book of Genesis (3:8-15).

They heard the sound of the Lord God walk-ing in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.” Then the Lord God said to

the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent tricked me, and I ate.” The Lord God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you among all ani-mals and among all wild creatures; upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”

tHe SecOnd reading

In our Second Reading Paul speaks of the eternal and glorious hope that belongs to Jesus’ disciples even in the midst of trouble and mortality. A Reading from the Second Letter of Paul to the Corinthians (4:13—5:1).

Just as we have the same spirit of faith that is in accordance with scripture—“I believed, and so I spoke”—we also believe, and so we speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence. Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people, may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

So we do not lose heart. Even though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day. For this slight momentary affliction is preparing us for an eternal weight of glory beyond all measure, because we look not at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen; for what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal.

For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Lector: The Word of the Lord People: Thanks be to God.Gradual Hymn 209

We walk by faith, and not by sightThe Gospel: Mark 3:20-35 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

The crowd came together again, so that Jesus and his disciples could not even eat. When

his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Je-rusalem said, “He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons.” And he

called them to him, and spoke to them in para-bles, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a king-dom is divided against itself, that kingdom can-not stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered.

“Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”—for they had said, “He has an un-clean spirit.”

Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.” The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.tHe SermOn The Rev. Pamela W. Today’s GospelIn today’s Gospel reading Jesus is accused of

being possessed by the prince of demons. He responds by describing his battle against Satan and indicating that true relationship with him is based on the doing of God’s will. The passage suggests a certain separation between Jesus and his own relatives due to the intensity of his ministry. To those who charge him with doing good by the power of evil, Jesus answers with figures of speech—one implies that Jesus himself is the man who must first bind Satan before destroying his power. A warning is given not to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit—by which perhaps is meant calling good evil.

We extend a warm welcome to our guests and visitors and we are delighted to

have you worship with us. Our Communion Table is open to all baptized Christians. Please join us for refreshments in the Parish Hall af-ter the service, and please complete the Visi-tor’s Card found in the pew racks and place it in an Offering Basket or hand it to an Usher or Greeter after the service.

Please sign up on the poster in the Parish Hall after services today. The movie will be Who Is Dayani Cristal, an eye-opener about a refu-gee from Honduras and the efforts to identify him. And please sign up to bring your favorite dish.☼name tagS – Don’t forget to put on your name tag! It’s an important part of being a friendly and welcom-ing church to wear that name tag so that everyone can call each other by name. If we assume that everyone already knows our name, we have already discounted our newcomers and signal to them that they’re not important to us. Don’t have a name tag or can’t find yours? Contact Jeni Hisko in the office – [email protected] or 625-1370. The Episcopal Church welcomes everyone – let’s show everyone who walks through our doors that we value and wel-come all of God’s children!☼StePHen miniStry – Your Stephen Ministry Leaders here at St. Francis

The separate insert entitled “The Blessings of Serving as a Stephen Minister” may pique that interest and give insight to what being a Ste-phen Minister has meant to some.

Please don’t be shy! We’d love to hear of your interest and explain further about the training. We truly need you! Please contact BrandE Faupell ([email protected] or 435 -512-0286), Marybeth Bates ([email protected] or 206-259-0361), Judy Craig ([email protected] or 520-237-0466), Mark Eckstein ([email protected] or 443-807-2277). ☼outreaCH For June – Summer time is slow time—but folks are still hun-gry, so all summer Outreach will be collecting items for the food bank, in addition to your checks. In June we will be collecting cereals and break-fast foods. Let’s be sure St. Fran-cis helps fill those empty summer shelves for our neighbors. Please be generous.►more From outreaCH – Your Outreach Committee is looking for someone with a love of numbers or an accounting background who can use excel. Carol Crain will provide

training and background. No bene-fits offered, but you will work with a great group. Let us know of your in-terest via email at: [email protected].☼liStening – Although church or-ganists get paid whether or not anyone listens, there are worship-pers–many of them–who would ap-preciate a chance to take in the organ prelude (postlude too) without hav-ing to filter out the conversations of others. Please be courteous to those who would like to listen to the organ and, not just coincidentally, to our organist, who happens to be one of the best in the business.☼a note From tHe outreaCH Com-mittee – Though the Outreach Com-mittee has not yet been successful in finding a treasurer or a chair, the committee will continue to work at this task through August. If any are interested in discovering what these jobs entail please email [email protected] or call 715-547-6176.

Should September arrive with no new leaders, the Outreach Commit-tee will cease to exist. St. Francis out-reach will continue through projects such as Imago Dei and the Refugee Committee.☼tour oF HomeS – In 2018 we cel-ebrated our 50th year coordinating the Tour of Homes as the major out-

reach effort for assistance in the com-munity. We are again challenged with finding two persons to coordi-nate the 2019 Tour of Homes if, in fact, it is to continue. It’s an amaz-ing effort that brings together the largest involvement of parishioners (and non-parishioners) in a single outreach event. But for it to contin-ue we need new leadership. Most of the procedures are already in place; teams are coordinated and excellent records are kept from year to year to make the job of coordinator as easy as possible. I’m sure previous coor-dinators will be glad to lend their ex-pertise and share their experience to make the job a lot easier. Let Fr. Dan know if you feel this a tug on your heart to coordinate the 2019 Tour of Homes. ☼”Honorary grandParentS” oF St. FranCiS – Twenty Imago Dei gradu-ates are sincerely appreciative of their achievements being recognized by the “Honorary Grandparents” of St. Francis. Our “Honorary Grand-parents should feel proud of these young scholars as they move on to mastering even greater academic challenges in some of Tucson’s best and most respected high schools.☼unraVelling mediCal Haze – Medical billing advocates work with

people to review their bills, ensure charges are accurate and help them reduce costs. You can get that help by visiting with Sandy Eckstein in the Parish Library on Thursdays from 8 am until NooN during our summer Parish Office hours. Eucharistic Visitors bring communion to those who are not able to participate in the Sunday Eu-charist because of illness or infirmi-ty. Eucharistic Ministers administer the chalice at the Eucharist. It would be a blessing to our congregation if you’d offer your services in one or both of these ministries, especially Lay Eucharistic Visitors. To quote Bishop Love of the Diocese of Alba-ny, NY, “To bring the sacrament of his precious Body and Blood to our brothers and sisters at the altar rail or at home is a profound spiritual privilege beyond measure. We are entrusted to carry the Gifts of God to the People of God with the Love of God.” Please speak to Fr.
