The temple will celebrate the festival over a ten day period. In the evening Nama Ramayanam will be chanted followed by Hanuman Chaleesa. Sundara Kanda from Valmiki Ramayanam will be read by the priests every day and all devotees are welcome to participate in this reading. Bhadrachala Raamadas was a great saint devotee of Lord Rama. Devotional songs composed by him will be sung during the Aradhana to this saint followed by Sri Sita Rama Kalyanam on Sunday, April 24.

Sri Venkatesan Srinivasan

Sri Venkatesan Srinivasan comes to us from Chennai. He is a Yajur Veda Vaidika priest of the Pancharathra Aagama Tradition. He has had full training and tutelage in the Pancharathra Aagama rites and rituals under Sri Rajam Bhattar, the Pradhana Aacharya of Sri Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram where he has become knowledgeable and has hands on experience in various Aagama rites for the temple including Thirumanjanam, Alankaram, Pavithrothsavam and Kalyana Uthsavam. He has also received his certificate of achievement. He has also undergone Upadhyayam training under the tutelage of Sri. U. V. Velinallore Sankapuram Narasimhacharya where he has been certified to conduct personal pujas and samskaras such as Weddings, Srimanthams, Grhapravesams, Bhoomi Pujais, Homams etc. His experience includes being a priest at Sri Venkateswara & Srinivasa perumal Temple in Coimbatore, S.V.Temple in Pittsburgh and Sri Srinivasa perumal Temple in Chennai. He is knowledgeable in Tamil, Sanskrit and English and knows a little of Telugu and Malayalam.

Sri Murali Shankar Sastri

Sri Murali Shankar Sastri comes to us from Chennai. He is a Rigveda Vaidika Priest. He has studied Rigveda Samhita for five years at the Sarvaignyatmendra Saraswathi Swamigal Rigveda padasalai in Brahmadesam; studied Kramantham for two years at Sankara Gurukula Veda Padasalai, Hyderabad; studied Ghanantham for two years at Sridevi Veda Vidyalaya Padasalai in Sriselam, Andra Pradesh; studied Veda Bhasyam for seven years at Bhramasri Maha Mahoupadyaya Krishna Murthi Sastrigal at Brahma Vidya Gurukulam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Additionally, he has also studied Vaithikha Purva Apara Prayogam and has been performing Prayogam for 11 years. He is knowledgeable in Tamil, Sanskrit, English and knows Telugu.

Dr. Mamidanna Seshagiri RaoDr. Mamidanna Seshagiri Rao died on January 10, 2016 at 12:45 pm in a hospital in Bangalore. He was 84 years old. He is survived by his wife Jayasheela and two girls-Sree & Veena. He worked as a Professor at HUCM-Howard University College Of Medicine for 36 years. He was a regular temple goer until he couldn’t drive himself anymore. On Shivaratri he used to spend the entire night at the temple.

Mr. Bala RajaramIt’s with deep sorrow we inform that Mr. Bala Rajaram who is a dedicated volunteer of our Temple passed away on January 30, 2016. He is survived by his wife Chitra Rajaram who is the coordinator for our kitchen committee and his two sons. The SSVT will truly miss him.

Balavidyalayam Children’s Educational ProgramBalavidyalayam children’s educational program offers Samskritha shloka-s, mythological storytelling, playing games from India, singing, artwork and so much more. We invite you to volunteer in our classes and we invite your children (5 years and above) to attend our multidisciplinary educational program. Yoga – A Special Offering at SSVT, Mantra Vibrations are an important Part of YogaOur Saturday morning sessions of Yoga at 7:30 am follows strictly the principles of Patanjali’s yoga sutras. While common practices in other places are more focused on the asana component of Hatha Yoga, we combine the learnings of Tantra, Ha-tha and Mantra traditions in accordance to the principles of Patanjali. Experience the power of beeja mantras in cleansing the inner self to prepare for the higher yoga. You will never find this in yoga studios. Our practices are gentle that can be done by anyone in any age-group in almost any state of health. Homeless SEVA, Sandwich Program, Second Saturdays, 2016 ■ Each month, on the 2nd Saturday, volunteers make sandwiches for the homeless. Every time, roughly about 1500 sandwiches are prepared

and delivered to Martha’s Table, a DC shelter. ■ SSVT encourages all devotees especially youth to participate in the program. Please be at the Temple at 10:30 am. Devotees can sponsor this

The SSVT Senior Citizen Group meets twice in a month usually on the second and fourth Wednesdays in the Education room from 11 am to 1 pm followed by a potluck lunch in the cafeteria. We invite/welcome all seniors 55+ to join us at the meetings and share our seniors-related common inter-ests. We invite speakers to talk on topics of interests to senior citizen, such as those related to primarily health and finance. We also arrange programs, such as picnics and trips to nearby places which would help promote social interaction between members of the group. All seniors are welcome.
