Spanning approximately 2.1 miles along the coast in San Diego’s North County, the city of Del Mar is an upscale seaside community with its name meaning “of the sea”. Located along the Pacific Ocean coastline, Del Mar is bordered by Solana Beach to the north, Rancho Santa Fe to the east, and Los Penasquitos Lagoon and Del Mar Heights to the south. The city has an estimated resident population of 4,500 who are attracted to the relaxed oceanfront community for its magnificent beaches, mediterranean climate, executive residential communities, regional access and numerous amenities and recreational options.

Incorporated in 1959, the city of Del Mar is a picturesque community characterized by beautiful beaches, seaside cliffs, flat-topped coastal areas, steep mesa bluffs, rolling hills and the iconic Torrey Pine.
Del Mar has long been a destination for movie stars and celebrities alike, originally drawn to the area by the famed Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and Racetrack which runs every summer and again in November. The venue is also host to the San Diego County Fair and KAABOO music festival.
The Village of Del Mar offers a quaint European environment with countless shopping and dining destinations. The Village is anchored by the L’Auberge Del Mar resort and the Del Mar Plaza, home to Il Fornaio, Pacifica Del Mar, Enoteca Del Fornaio, and numerous art galleries and clothing boutiques.
The beach in Del Mar is one of the most beautiful and enjoyable in San Diego. The two plus miles of sandy beach offers a great place to relax, walk, or run. Two coastal parks, Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks, are located just above the 15th Street surf break; providing a great spot to picnic with friends and family. Dog Beach is located on the North end of the city.
Located approximately 22 miles north of downtown San Diego, Del Mar is served by Interstate 5 and Highway 101, both of which provide North/South access throughout the region.
Interstate 5 also provides connections to State Routes 78 and 56, located within 10 miles to the north and south, respectively. These freeways provide direct access to Interstate 15 and the County’s inland communities.
Just 2 miles to the North, the Solana Beach mass transit station offers service by North County Transit’s Coaster commuter rail and Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner passenger train. Together, these services provide an ideal alternative for visitors and commuters with convenient access to Orange County, Los Angeles and Downtown San Diego.
In addition to the executive residences offered within Del Mar, several prestigious communities are also located nearby, including Carlsbad, Rancho Santa Fe, Fairbanks Ranch, Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Solana Beach.
