Special Areas Newsletter September 2019 MEDIA CENTER Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Mrs. Spead and I are excited to see new and old friends in the media center. Over the summer we received almost 300 new books for students to check out. We added beginning chapter books for our rst and second grade readers, expanded our selection of third through fth grade novels, and added to the non-ction collection. Thank you to all of the students who participated in the Summer Reading program. We had over 100 students return their Summer Reading Log. Prizes included a free Wendy's chicken nuggets, free fries, and a free Frosty. Thank you to Wendy's and our PTA for supporting this program and helping to promote summer reading! Please remember that you and your child can access the Destiny system from home. Destiny is the online catalog database used in all Fulton County schools. This allows you to work together to nd a book that your child needs or wants to read. Simply log into through Classlink using your child's student number and password then go to the e-Library folder. We are looking for volunteers to help in the Media Center. Volunteers are needed starting at 7:15 a.m. through 2 p.m. Please use the Sign-Up Genius below if you are interested! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F044FA8A622A1F94-cves13 Introducing Our School Wide Read – The Hard Hat for Kids Teamwork is one of the most important skills for 21st century workers to have and it’s an essential part of the collaborative learning experience at Creek View. This year, our school- wide read features an outstanding book on this topic by Jon Gordon. As we all read The Hard Hat for Kids over the next four weeks as a school community, students and teachers will have discussions of how we can work together as a team to put the WE before ME to produce better outcomes. Research show us that when children feel like a part of a community their communication, social and emotional skills are all strengthened. Students who are able to work effectively on teams demonstrate higher levels of self-esteem and condence. Over the next month, we’ll learn 10 ways to be a great teammate as we follow the story of Mickey, a spunky and talented basketball lover who learns there is a big difference between being the best player and being the best teammate. Students will have a chance to participate

Our students will create their own digital portfolios, a collection of their ownartworks in digital form. Students will learn important skills like uploading images, croppingand enhancing, as well as writing titles and statements. Please read through ARTSONIA’sprivacy policy. You are not obligated to participate in the program. ARTSONIA is also hosting our online school gallery. Please take a minute to visit the galleryand see what our students created in the past three years. The new Futon County ArtCurriculum encourages our students to “participate in appropriate exhibitions of works of artto develop identity of self as an artist.” There are other options available if you decide not tohave your child participate in the online art gallery.ARTSONIA is the only art fundraiser we will have this year. We will not participate in theARTOME frame sale like in previous years. ARTSONIA has a giftshop option which offers ourparents to buy keepsakes with their students’ artworks printed on. Our Creek View ArtDepartment will receive 20% for every keepsake purchase for the CVES art program. The Art department will send home student specic permission slips with activation codes foreach individual child by mid-September. Please activate your child’s account. You will see therst artworks on our gallery by the end of the rst quarter upon completion of our rstprojects. We will also explore the 4 Cs (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) as students work together in groups.
