Report on 15th
One Day National Conference on
“Process Safety Management”
on
4th
January, 2014
Safety is becoming an increasingly important activity in the process and chemical industry.
People are an intrinsic part of the process and hence awareness of safety is vital. Integrated
safety concepts such as safety instrumented systems guarantee fault-free operation of plant,
together with protection of people, machine and environment.
Technologies are facing constant change and hence, the facilities should be updated and
operating personnel should be suitably educated. Solutions for facilities such as Hazardous
Area Classification, Emergency Relief Systems, Process Hazard Analysis, Electrostatic
Hazard Assessment, etc. can be carried out in order to minimize accidents. Additionally, with
regards to people management, solutions like behavior based safety implementation, process
safety culture, various trainings, etc can be conducted.
The objective of the conference was to provide a forum for exchange of ideas and innovative
practices followed in the industries for a safe working environment and imbibe safety culture
in professionals and students as a way of life.
Mr. R.N. Mohanty, Director, Pidilite Industries, was the Chief Guest. Guest of Honour was
Prof. A.S. Andhare, formar Dy. Director, Technical Education and Officer on Special Duty,
MSBTE. The keynote speaker was Mr. C.S. Limaye, Director, supertech Instrumentation
services (India) Pvt. Ltd, and Mr. J.N. Kayal, Jt. Secretary, Vidya Prasarak Mandal, presided
over the function.
Prof. D.K. Nayak, Principal, VPM’s Polytechnic, was the convener and Mrs. V.A. Joshi was
the organizing secretary of the conference. Fifteen speakers from renowned industries shared
