Wisdom from Pope Francis /Sabiduria de Papa Francisco

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy”-Jesus does not say, “Blessed are those

who plot revenge”. He calls “blessed” those who forgive and do so “seventy times seven” (Mt

18:22). We need to think of ourselves as an army of the forgiven. All of us have been looked upon with divine compassion. If we approach the Lord

with sincerity and listen carefully, there may well be times when we hear his reproach:

“Should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?” (Mt 18:33).

“Felices los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia»-Jesús no dice:

“Felices los que planean venganza”, sino que llama felices a aquellos que perdonan y lo hacen “setenta

veces siete” (Mt 18,22). Es necesario pensar que todos nosotros somos un ejército de perdonados.

Todos nosotros hemos sido mirados con compasión divina. Si nos acercamos sinceramente al Señor y

afinamos el oído, posiblemente escucharemos algunas veces este reproche:

“¿No debías tú también tener compasión de tu compañero, como yo tuve compasión de ti?”

(Mt 18,33).

Fr. Robert Favazza is celebrating the his tenth anniversary

of ordination to the priesthood. The Celebration Mass will be held on

May is the Month of Mary. Our PRE students crowned Mary on May 5th

during their final class. It recently dawned on me that I had not written anything on the Blessed Virgin Mary

this month in my weekly column. I’d like to remind you that, contrary to popular

opinion, Catholics do not worship Mary. Catholic Christians honor and venerate her because

we obey the Word of God. During the Stations of the Cross this year we prayed The Way of the Cross At

The Colosseum with Pope Benedict XVI. His meditation on the Fourth Station of the Cross,

Jesus Meets His Mother, is deeply moving. His words are a reflection on John 19:25-27.

From the cross, Jesus says to Mary “Woman, behold your son” and to John “Behold, your

mother”. “His words have an immediate meaning: he entrusts Mary to John, so that he might take care of

her. Yet his words also have a broader and more profound meaning: at the foot of the Cross Mary is called to utter a second “yes”, after the “yes” which

she spoke at the Annunciation, when she became the Mother of Jesus and

thus opened the door to our salvation. With this second “yes,”, Mary becomes the Mother of us all, the Mother of every man and woman for whom Jesus shed his blood. Her motherhood is a living sign of God’s love and mercy for us. Because of this, the

bonds of affection and trust uniting the Christian people to Mary are deep and strong. As a result, we have recourse to her spontaneously, especially at the most difficult times of our lives.” On May 13th, we celebrated Our Lady of Fatima. In the year 1917,

Mary appeared to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, and gave them the Biblical message of

conversion of heart, repentance from sin, and prayer (especially the rosary). She confirmed this message

with the famous miracle of the sun that was witnessed by believers and skeptics. You may want to check it out. I encourage you to follow the counsel of Pope

Benedict and have recourse to her, especially during the most difficult times of your life. Mary is a good

Mother and she will come through for you!!!

Is your love for the Lord leading you to grow in holiness as a priest, deacon or in the consecrated life?

¿Tu amor por el Señor te está llevando a crecer en santidad como sacerdote, diácono o en la vida consagrada?

Mayo es el mes de María. Nuestros estudiantes de PRE coronaron a María el 5 de mayo durante su clase final.

Recientemente me di cuenta de que no había escrito nada sobre la Santísima Virgen María este mes en mi columna semanal. Me gustaría recordarle que, contrariamente a la

opinión popular, los católicos no adoran a María. Los cristianos católicos la honran y la veneran porque

obedecemos la Palabra de Dios. Durante las Estaciones de la Cruz de este año, rezamos El Camino de la Cruz en el Coliseo con el Papa Benedicto XVI. Su meditación en la Cuarta Estación de la Cruz, Jesús se encuentra con su

madre, es profundamente conmovedora. Sus palabras son una reflexión sobre Juan 19: 25-27. Desde la cruz, Jesús le dice a María "Mujer, mira a tu hijo" y a Juan "He aquí a tu

madre." Sus palabras tienen un significado inmediato: confía a María a Juan para que pueda

cuidarla. Sin embargo, sus palabras también tienen un significado más amplio y profundo: al pie de la Cruz,

María es llamada a pronunciar un segundo "sí," después del "sí" que habló en la Anunciación, cuando se convirtió

en la Madre de Jesús y, por lo tanto, Abrió la puerta a nuestra salvación. Con este segundo "sí," María se

creyentes y escépticos. Puede que quieras echarle un vistazo. Le animo a seguir el consejo del Papa Benedicto y a recurrir a ella, especialmente durante los momentos más

difíciles de su vida. María es una buena madre y ella siempre está presente para ti!!

Cuando tengo miedo, puedo ser fiel. Oro para que hoy camine con total confianza,

sabiendo que la Santísima Trinidad está conmigo.
