Volunteers Needed for the 2020 Homeless Point-In-Time CountSanta Barbara County, the Santa Maria/Santa Barbara County Continuum of Care (CoC), and the Northern Santa Barbara County United Way invite volunteers to participate in the countywide 2020 Homeless Point-In-Time Count from 5:30 to 8:30am on Wednesday, January 29th. The Point-In-Time Count is the annual count of individuals and families experiencing homelessness on a given day.Teams of volunteers and experts will canvas assigned routes throughout the county and will briefl y document who is experiencing homelessness. This information is used to plan local homeless assistance systems and raise public awareness. Volunteers must attend a training session at the following locations from 6-7:30pm: Carpinteria/Summerland: Thursday, January 23rd / Isla Vista: Tuesday, January 21st / Santa Barbara: Wednesday, January 22nd. Eighty tons of snow for kids to sled and play in will be delivered for the Santa Barbara Zoo’s annual “Snow Leopard Festival” on Sunday, January 26th from 10am to 3pm (9am early admission for SB Zoo members). Activities include sledding, snow play for children, keeper talks about snow leopard conservation, crafts, face painting, wall climbing, and more. Sledding tickets are $5 (sold at the Zoo). Sleds are provided. Zoo admission is required ($11-$18). www.sbzoo.org

Be a part of a seed saving movement, making sure that locally adapted varieties of seed and plants are passed on to future generations during the 12th Annual Santa Barbara Community Seed Swap on Sunday, January 26th from 1 to 4pm at Faulkner Gallery, Santa Barbara Public Library. Each year, hundreds attend this event sharing seeds and gardening knowledge with fellow plant lovers. The event will feature special guest speakers, exhibitors, children’s activities, and music!
