the importance of pets in our daily

lives: in the US the market has grown

from US$36,8 billion in 2011 to US$44,7

billion in 2016.

In the US the industry is estimated to grow

in value to US$ 44,7 billion in 2016.

Similarly, in Western Europe the pet care market

has also increased from Euro 22,7 billion in 2011

to Euro 25,3 billion in 2015.

The predicted growth for 2016, though less than

1. Pet Humanisation

Pet owners are spending at the highest level

to care for their pets. They treat them as a

member of the family and they are willing to

pay for premium food products, healthcare as

well as spending money on luxury products

such as blankets, clothes, toys.

Changing lifestyles also have a positive

impact on the pet care industry. More and

more people are seeking pet companionship

in response to smaller families, failing

marriages and the widespread use of the

Internet are making people more lonely.

Recent stats show that 85% of pet owners

consider pets as a part of the family, 57% of

pet owners agree that their pet is their best

friend and 81% agree that they do not feel

alone when surrounded by their pet.

2. E-Commerce

E-commerce accounted for more than 5% of

global pet food purchases in 2015 and was at

almost 10% among consumers in the UK.

E-Commerce is growing in importance as

consumers search for access to a wider range

of products and convenience provided by

Internet shopping.

their suppliers to meet specific standards

before sourcing their ingredients.
