Vice President - Engineering

Sabih is a senior corporate manager heading the engineering operations for Lamprell and reporting to the CEO. Immediate responsibilities includes restructuring the groups at the various sites and establish the discipline engineering in order to standardise the processes, systems and procedures. Senior Projects Engineering Manager

Sabih was overseeing the ongoing projects and bids including the planning and controlling

of discipline’s manpower, budgets and all interfaces with the various functions in McDermott. He provided guidance and leadership direction to the rest of Engineering Management on projects and bids as well as provided guidance on the development of engineering systems, including the intelligent P&IDs and the interface with 3D models in order to provide and automated seamless fabrication and installation outputs.

Sabih also led large bid projects. He has led multi disciplines team of technical personnel working on the WASIT new Gas filed development for Saudi ARAMCO bid, with over 600,000 engineering manhours. Sabih reviewed and provided directions to engineering managers & coordinators as well as lead engineers on issues related to technical engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation, and planning as well as all related key interfaces. The project involved the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) for 13 WHPs, 2 Tie in Platforms, 1 Intermediate Injection Platform and over 750km of subsea and onshore pipelines, subsea cables and multi service umbilicals. Sabih’s key responsibilities during the bidding stage included the requirement to improve and optimise the current design that was provided by ARAMCO in the ITT and sharpen all engineering, procurement and fabrication estimates in order to reduce the estimated budget and add value to the project and the Client.

Sabih also managed all bid inputs related to the UZ 750 turnkey project for ZADCO, and for the Umm Lulu bid for ADMA OPCO in Abu Dhabi, which includes 5 floatover decks with up to 18000MT, including the requirement to improve and optimise the design that was provided by the clients in the ITT and to sharpen all engineering, procurement and fabrication estimates in order to reduce the estimated budget and add value to the project and the Client.

Jan 2010 to Sept 2010 - Petrofac – Director of International Offshore Projects

Reporting to the Senior Vice President in Aberdeen, Sabih was establishing the UAE business unit that will lead and execute offshore oil & gas projects in the Middle East, Far East and North Africa (MENA). Sabih was responsible for all, but not limited to, the following key tasks and activities:

Sabih held few concurrent positions and was General Manager – Engineering (ME and India), Group Engineering Manager Middle East Operations, and led large multi-discipline teams comprising seven Discipline Managers and at peak 450 engineers and designers covering Process & Safety, Mechanical, Structural, Piping, E&I, Layout, Pipelines and Production Engineers. Sabih led a large department of technical personnel, with over 850,000 engineering manhours per year. Sabih sat on Projects and management bid reviews giving directions to project managers and directors related to engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation issues and all related key interfaces. He also was instrumental in the establishment and development of the Indian office in Chennai that reported to him. He was instrumental in developing the engineering department from a construction engineering support function to a full detailed engineering support inhouse department.

Sabih worked on many oil & gas EPC projects, including large topsides (up to 10,000MT), from Basic (FEED) and Detailed to Construction, Installation and Fabrication Engineering. Sabih was also involved in the establishment of the in house Engineering Critical Assessments (ECAs) of laterally buckled pipelines.

Sabih has successfully managed the completion of the projects under his leadership given in the Table at the end of the CV.

FEBRUARY 2002 – NOV 2005, NPCC, ABU DHABI, UAE

Project Engineering Manager

Responsible for the management of all the engineering activities for particular projects. This included provision of engineering services for the project to meet the requirements and scope of work set by the Client. Planning the project schedule and resources, drafting and monitoring of external contracts. Cost control and budget tracking. Producing project quality and execution plans and progress reports. Project documentation control procedure development including Engineering Document Management System (EDMS). Procurement technical support and liaison with vendors and sub-contractors. Monitoring the timely and successful resolution of all critical change issues (management of Change). Worked on a number of oil and gas EPC projects, including large topsides, from Basic and Detailed to Construction and installation Engineering.

OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM OF QATAR LTD – Provision of 9-slotted Sour Service Wellhead Platforms, Subsea Pipelines, Multi-Service Umbilicals & Power Cables - Managing all required detailed and construction engineering activities related to this

Major EPC project. As part of this development, it is intended to install six new wellhead platforms (WHPs ~ 700MT each – 2 off are optional) within the ISND Field with all associated equipment and subsea pipelines (22Nos) & multi-service umbilicals power cable (4Nos). In addition to the engineering for the removal of two redundant bridge support tripods & three pipelines. The project involves multi-discipline design activities related to Process, Piping, Pipeline, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Installation, Naval, Health and Safety, and Commissioning. This >$200M project involves a large engineering team (35 engineers and 30 designers/draftsmen), with close liaison with the Client and subcontractors. Equipment include chemical injection skids, Glycol injection skids, switchgears, power transformers, multi phase flow meters, instrument air receivers, knock out drums, drain system, integrated control safety systems, pig launchers, WHCP, UTP, UPS, DCS, KOD, F&G detection systems and other associated facilities.

Reinstatement of 12-slotted Sour Service WHP - US94 Project, ADMA-OPCO – This EPC project is close to a very successful completion. I am managing and supervising all basic, detailed and construction engineering activities including scheduling, procurement and technical evaluation of vendor bids, fabrication, installation, progress reporting, pre-commissioning and commissioning. Design activities cover multi-disciplines from Process, Piping, Pipeline, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Installation, Naval, Health and Safety to Commissioning. This ~$35M project involves a large number of discipline engineers (22 engineers and 18 designers/draftsmen) with close liaison with the Client and subcontractor (TECHNIP). Equipment include separator, chemical injection skid, switchgear, power transformers, multi phase flow meter, pig launchers, hydraulic safety shutdown system, knock out drum, drain and vent systems, solar power panels, UPS, MTU, RTU, DCS, F&G detection systems and other associated facilities. This WHP involves a six-legged jacket and ~1,000MT topside, installed by heavy lift ship HLS 2000.

24" WI Pipeline Replacement Project for USSC to US12A and to US23A, ADMA-OPCO – This EPC project is close to a very successful completion. Managing and supervising all required engineering activities related to this EPC project. These include design, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of the new subsea pipeline system with pig launcher/receiver including all associated facilities, removal of the existing risers & pipeline sections to fulfil the objectives of the Client. This $105M project includes the Basic, Detailed and Construction Engineering design activities and progress reporting. These cover multi-discipline design activities related to Pipeline, Process, Piping, Structural, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Installation, Civil, Naval, Health and Safety, and Commissioning. This project involves a number of discipline engineers (24 engineers and 20 designers/draftsmen) with close liaison with the Client and certifying authorities.

Zakum Crestal Gas Injection Project, ADMA-OPCO - Managed and supervised some of the detailed and all construction engineering activities for a number of oil, gas production and injection platforms in ZAKUM and USSC super complexes. This included all construction engineering and some detailed engineering activities for the GIP new flare, bridge and bridge support tripod, a new injection compression package and platform, pipeline works, various modification works at ZWSC, RP, GGII, GIP, CSP and Bridges, various modification works at USSC (GTP extension and ABK Tip), removal of the wellhead tower ZK145 including complete revamp and reinstatement. Responsible for the execution of all activities related to construction engineering, scheduling, procurement and technical evaluation of vendor bids, fabrication, installation, pre-commissioning and commissioning. The size of this Major project is in excess of $65M covering multi-discipline design activities related to Piping, Pipeline, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Instrumentation, Installation, Naval, Health and Safety, and commissioning. This

project involves a large number of discipline engineers, with close liaison with the client and the Engineer (KBR).

Demothballing of Zakum Central, ADMA-OPCO – Managed all required engineering input related to this negotiated EPC contract for the design of a new accommodation LQ in place of the previous ZAP platform using a floatover installation method. The project included the re-design / upgrade of a large number of wellhead towers. NPCC was contracted to carry out a constructability review of the Basic Engineering package by TP, which I personally compiled.

Dolphin Supercomplexes – Dolphin Energy Limited (Qatar-UAE) - Managed all required engineering input activities related to this FEED Endorsement and EPC Enquiry. This consists of the comprehensive plan to appraise, develop and produce hydrocarbons from the two COMPLEXES in the FIELDS, to transport those hydrocarbons via the SEALINES to the onshore PLANT in Ras Laffan (Qatar) for treatment and processing, to store and prepare for export the processed hydrocarbon by-products, to compress and transport SALES GAS from the PLANT via the EXPORT PIPELINE and to sell the SALES GAS and, if applicable, the gas received from THIRD PARTIES, so transported to end users in the U.A.E. and in Oman. Equipment include Glycol injection skids, switchgears, power transformers, multi phase flow meters, instrument air receivers, knock out drums, drain system, integrated control safety systems, pig launchers, UTP, UPS, DCS, F&G detection systems and other associated facilities. The total weight of the topside is approximately 2400MT.

NPCC Marine Spread Upgrading - Managed and supervised the modification and upgrading design activities for NPCC marine barges HLS2000 and DLB1000, and Company installation equipment.

Shell Soroosh Nowrooz in Iran - Specialist technical support and advice on seismic assessment, pushover analysis, fatigue and fracture assessment of structural members was given where required. This also covered floatover design recommendation for the 10,000MT process platform.

AUGUST 2001 – FEBRUARY 2002, ADMA-GASOS, ABU DHABI, UAEStructural Section Head (Umm Al Shaif Oil Field)

Responsible for the day to day management and running of the Structural Engineering Team for the Umm Al Shaif oil field and related projects.

Risk Mitigation Measures Project for the Umm Shaif Super Complex USSC - Project Leader for the Design of Risk Mitigation Measures Project for the Umm Shaif Super Complex USSC. The size of the project is approximately $20M, and involves Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) study for all possible risk scenarios, basic engineering, and detailed engineering of all the necessary justified risk mitigation measures that were found to be feasible and acceptable by the Share Holders. Close liaison with the consultants (WSA) and subcontractors was required.

Development of Structural Integrity Management System (SIMS) - Project Leader on the Development of Structural Integrity Management System (SIMS) Project including the remnant life assessment, life extension, and the maintenance and development of company standards to facilitate and monitor the safe management of ADMA structures.

Structural Integrity Re-evaluation Activities - Project Leader and main Focal Contact on the structural integrity re-evaluation activities for all Wellhead Towers and Supercomplexes in both Umm Al Shaif and Zakum oil fields.

Other responsibilities – This included technical supervision on new design for replacement of wellhead tower jackets and trouble shooting of platform problems. Also supervising and co-ordinating the work of others members of the Section, planning, resourcing and assuring staff are suitably qualified experienced persons, monitoring of external contracts, cost tracking and budgeting, producing project instructions and progress reports and liaison with sub-contractors.

NOVEMBER 1997 – AUGUST 2001, BRITISH ENERGYSpecialist Structural Integrity Technical Consultant – Project Manager

Worked in the structural assessment group within the structural integrity branch of British Energy, as an experienced specialist consultant into methods related to structural integrity investigations. I have been instrumental in providing management support and expertise in the development and maintenance of assessment methodologies required to support plant design and periodic reviews. I have also worked on the development and applications of the R6 and R5 fracture mechanics and creep assessment procedures, as well as providing station support. The R6 is concerned with assessment of the integrity of structures containing defects at low temperature. While the R5 provides guidance on the assessment procedures of structures at high temperature, including pressure vessels, oil refineries including pipelines, and conventional power generation plants and pipework. My responsibilities include the following:

Project manager providing supervision, planning, monitoring of external contracts to consultants, assuring staff are suitably qualified experienced persons (SQEP), cost tracking, producing project instructions and progress reports, procurement of external engineering services and liaison with sub-contractors and station management. I managed and co-ordinated few sub-projects during the fast track Header Recovery Project with a total value of £35M. The project was highly crucial for the station’s continued service. This involved large number of extensive engineering component life assessments taking account of pressure and thermal transient stress cycles. Fracture and creep/fatigue assessments were carried out for defective components. In addition, for defect free members and connections, code compliance evaluations were made, and corrective action taken where required. The work also involved preparing minimum thickness databases for planned inspection programmes. Supervision of internal staff and liaison with external contractors formed a vital part in the project. The project was successfully completed and was followed by an exceptionally sensitive in-situ heat-treatment programmes on two superheater header welds.

Technical contribution to the forthcoming periodic safety review of the Sizewell ‘B’ power station. This includes guidance on the use of ASME III and XI for assessment of safety significant systems in power plants.

Project manager for R5 validation task, which involves analyses and development work to validate the current advice on crack growth, leak before break argument and flaw shape development. It also includes liaison with all external partners such as Atomic Energy Authority (AEA), Magnox Electric and BNFL, and the production and presentation of quarterly reports.

Lead role for R6 and R5 leak before break applications and studies, which involves the development of solutions for crack opening area to provide advice on the tolerable defect sizes and flow rates.

Developed of a single source reference (compendium) for the stress intensity factor and limit load solutions to be used in the nuclear, oil and offshore industries. It also involved

the maintenance, updating and validation of available solutions and liaison with all SINTAP partners in Europe and the USA.

To contribute to the continuous internal and external training programmes for R5 and R6 procedures, which includes presentations to course attendees.

FEBRUARY 1995 - NOVEMBER 1997, EQE INTERNATIONAL LIMITEDPrincipal Engineer - Structural Integrity Section Leader

During my employment at EQE, I was responsible for a number of offshore, chemical, defence and nuclear facilities related projects. Most of these projects have involved close supervision and co-ordination of the work of others including staff recruitment, resourcing and team building. I was responsible for monitoring a portfolio of contracts, appraising staff and ensuring their suitability for tasks, project planning and cost tracking, producing project instructions and progress reports, liaising with clients and other involved parties. Marketing of EQE’s engineering consultancy services was one of my important roles. Examples of those projects I have carried out include:

Project manager of a 470k JIP programme investigating the reliability of the Flooded Member Detection (FMD) technique as a tool for structural integrity assurance of offshore platforms. This included studying the variables affecting crack shape development, crack shapes effects on unzip time and remaining life using PATRAN and ABAQUS, the effect of redundancy on the reliability of offshore structures by analysis methods, and to review the use of structural reliability analysis for planning inspection regimes involving FMD.

Blast, pushover and redundancy, and reliability assessment of the BP Cleeton oil platform, using SACS and EDP computer programs.

Pushover and redundancy, and reliability assessment of the Ninyan North and South oil platforms, using SACS and EDP computer programs.

Hydrostatic and seismic, fracture and fatigue analysis of Caissons at Devonport Dockyard. It also involved preparing material requirement and test specifications for caissons (dock gates) and other welded structures.

Project manager for the seismic qualification of the super-compactor and its shielding and equipment for the BNFL's Sellafield Dry Pack (SDP). Management of this project required formal presentation to British Nuclear Fuel Ltd (BNFL) and the involved direct liaison with the main contractors.

Managed an impact assessment of a falling reactor head while refuelling a nuclear submarine. The impact assessment is part of a safety case, which had to demonstrate that the reactor head would not rotate penny-wise while falling. The project required the use DYNA3D explicit FE code for analysis. Also direct liaison with Rolls Royce was necessary.

The seismic assessment of the pipework and valves for the LNG cylindrical tanks of the Noell Whessoe DEPA project in Greece.

Presented courses in Dubai on structural integrity. The courses included lectures on Fracture Assessment, Fatigue assessment, risk management, and material testing and requirements including non-destructive testing.

Carried out the Leg Chord thermal analyses, and ultimate strength assessment using ABAQUS finite element analysis program for the ELGIN FRANKLIN Jackup, which is designed by McDermott Marine Construction Limited (London/Paris). The Leg Chord Analysis study was required to investigate the effectiveness of proposed methods for

and management of the structural analysis, seismic and impact design of the Reactor Access Housing of a submarine to be used at the Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth (DML).

In addition I also carried out seismic walkdowns (site investigations) at Heysham and Hartlepool nuclear power stations.

Shell UK's Kingfisher oil field development - Responsible to the supervising structural engineer for most structural activities associated with the conceptual study and design for Shell UK's Kingfisher oil field development in water depth of 110m, including the development of the engineering required for the analysis, fabrication, structural design brief, transportation and installation for both a jacket and a subsea options.

QATARGAS North Field - Design and analysis of the accommodation platform LQ. The job involved the design of a topside structure with a final operating weight of 4000 tonnes. A very detailed three-dimensional modelling had to be carried out using the in-house CAD program. As a member of the analysis and design team I was involved in the analysis and design assessment of critical joints in platforms for the QATARGAS North Field supercomplex, which also included finite element modelling using ANSYS to investigate the ultimate strength, and the Stress Concentration Factors (SCFs) for the joints in order to assess the fatigue life. In addition to other design analysis and activities.

IOOC, ABOOZAR FIELD - Responsible for the design and analysis of platforms for the Aboozar field in the Persian Gulf, including the drilling platforms, remote drilling satellite platform and a bridge. Work included Inplace, Fatigue, Seismic and Lift analyses.

BP ETAP – Responsible for the design of some wellhead platforms in this oil and gas production field for BP. This included in-place, fatigue, lifting and transportation analyses.

BP Foineaven Floating Production (FPSO) West of Shetland - Responsible for the dynamic analysis in order to generate response spectra at different levels of the production ship. Also structural design and analyses of support skids and structures was carried out.

In-house Guideline Development - Responsible to the supervising structural engineer for the development of the McDermott in-house Technical Guidelines for fatigue/fracture and blast assessment of tubular joints, and for monitoring a portfolio of a range of industry group sponsored programmes.

1987 – 1992 - Joint Health & Safety Executive and University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) Research Associate

During my employment at UMIST/HSE I undertook a number of projects, which included:

A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Project into the Ultimate Strength of Cracked Tubular Circular Hollow Sections (CHS) K-joints, used in offshore platforms. The work involved Finite Element analyses using the FE program ABAQUS of K-joints under axial and in-plane/out-of-plane bending loads, for models that are uncracked, and through thickness cracked. The programme aimed at providing the offshore industry with guidance on failure assessment

procedures of cracked tubular joints. The methodology used was a fracture mechanics based defect assessment procedures of PD6493:1991 (currently BS7910). I was also involved in a parallel Group Sponsored Programme put together by The Welding Institute (TWI) in this area as a member of the Numerical Analysis Task Group. During this particular project, under the guidance of Professor F.M. Burdekin, I gained a valued broad knowledge of fracture mechanics based defect assessment procedures and techniques, which are applicable to many structures.

Responsible for assessing the significance of NDT sizing accuracy on the reliability of fatigue loaded structures (an SERC funded project). Involved in the development of technology of fatigue monitoring devices (gauges), and apply it in practice designing systems for the various applications.

The gauges were designed using the finite element analysis package ABAQUS coupled with fracture mechanics principles, to give them controlled characteristics relating to the stress range experienced by the monitored structure.

Whilst working on the above projects at UMIST, I was able to pursue a research programme, on a part-time basis due to my involvement in other research areas, leading to the degree of PhD, under the guidance of Professor F.M. Burdekin. The research project investigated the fatigue, fracture and ultimate behaviour of tubular welded K-joints involving tubular members. Parametric formulae that allow the calculation of the SCFs and ultimate strength of the joints for design were developed. An experimental programme was conducted to validate the theoretical results, which included the detailed design of a test rig and its instrumentation using AUTOCAD.

Each WHP jacket comprises of a four-leg structure with two opposite vertical faces and two inclined faces. Each jacket has 15 well slots arranged in a three wide by five deep array, two boat landings, two J-tubes, riser clamps for one riser, cathodic protection anodes and other appurtenances. WHP7 and 8 shall each be fitted with riser clamps for a 38” nominal diameter export riser. WHP9 shall be fitted with riser clamps for a 22” nominal diameter spur pipeline riser.
