Successful You

This presentation is based upon research detailed in several articles and studies on the characteristics and traits found in success people.

This is a workshop about you. How do you compare to characteristics of successful people and what characteristics do you have that are common among unsuccessful people.

Develop an action plan and set goals on changing your unsuccessful traits to successful traits.

The goal of this workshop is to develop an evaluation criteria for members to determine how they compare to successful people's traits.

to bed and first thing in the morning.

Conscientiousness. Psychologists classify conscientiousness is one of the "Big 5" personality traits, with the others being agreeableness, extroversion, neuroticism, and openness to experience.

Conscientious people tend to be super organized, responsible, and plan ahead. They work hard in the face of challenges and can control their impulses.

Think win/win. All parties feel good about a decision and committed to an action plan.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Listening and Mindfulness.

Sharpen the saw. Re-energizing yourself. Mentally and physically. Exercise, nutrition, reading, planning, writing, service, empathy, study and meditation.

Early rising is a common trait found in many CEOs, Govt Officials, and other influential people.

Exercise. Most people that work out daily do it in the morning. Exercising before work gives you boost of energy for the day.

Map out your day. Map out your schedule for the day as well as your goals and to-dos.

Eat a healthy breakfast. Take time to fuel body for the tasks at hand and help keep your mind focused and energized and not a growling stomach.

Visualization. Visualize your day ahead of you, focusing on the successes you will have. A minute of visualization and positive thinking can improve your mood and outlook.

Make your day top heavy. Do the least desirable task on your list first. Get it out of your way.

Successful or Unsuccessful Traits? Multi-tasking?

Latest research concludes multi-taskers don't focus on any of their tasks efficiently.

Organized desk?

In other words, a less- than-perfect work environment can make a person more likely to think out of the box, or at least above the horizon of those neat people in the office.

Trait. Spending free time “watching TV”, “playing video games”, and “researching family history”.

Problem. Gets focused and spends all free time on things of interest. Stays up all night playing games or researching family history.

Why. Stress/depression from not having a job or not satisfied with current job. Stress from not in an ideal living situation and environment.

Goal. Reduce TV and game play by 50% by July.

Tasks.

Select books to read. Develop “To-Be” list. Continuously learn.

Action PlanPsychological reasons why you spend time and focus on

entertainment.

Avoid complex task that you have been dreading to do.

To escape from stress or unhealthy situation. Such as lack of funds.

Avoids dealing with reality.

Develop action plan IITrait: Procrastination.

Problem: Spends time on Internet replying to emails and researching different topics.

Why? Avoids dealing with unpleasant or complex situations or tasks. Lets you do more pleasant tasks that you have more interest in.

Goal. Limit email and non-job research time to after noon.

Primary Focus. Job applications and job research.

Watch TV everyday. Limit TV to 2 hours per night.

Never stop learning. Get certified in Agile Scrum Master.
