A Faithful Note from Deacon Bob

Stewardship of Treasure “For it is in giving that we receive”

A Stewardship Thought “Using God's Gifts, Doing God's Work”

In today’s Gospel we hear Jesus giving His disciples a new commandment: “. . . love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:31-33a, 34-35) In about three weeks we will celebrate Pentecost, often referred to as the Birthday of the Church. As members of the Church, the Body of Christ, how are we to understand the new commandment Jesus gives His disciples? What does it mean to love one another within the context of the Church? In the scriptural writings associated with John, God’s love for the world is clearly expressed by the sending his

Son, Jesus, that those who believe in Him might have abundant life. Those who belong to the Son love Him, and keep His commandments, summarized in today’s Gospel as the commandment: love one another. Disciples love one another through concrete acts of service to each other and to the world and also by inviting and empowering others to do the same. To love someone is to desire that they fully develop and exercise their God-given gifts and abilities, and to assist them in doing so. All of us have different and varying gifts, talents, aptitudes, and abilities which come from God and are to be used in the building up of his Kingdom here at this place and time. What are your interests? What are your gifts? Use them for the building up of the Kingdom! Some people may think they may not be qualified. Don’t worry. Remember, God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called!

“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.” ~John 13:34 It is easy to love someone when they love you back. But it takes strength and courage to love someone when we feel unappreciated, used, or feel our opinion doesn’t matter. It takes courage to “love my neighbor” when he may be someone I don’t like, someone I don’t know, or someone that doesn’t look like me.

No te preocupes.
