Sacred Heart Catholic Church Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time –November 11, 2018
Reflection from the Pastor:
Why does Jesus make such a big deal about the widow’s mite? Is the point
of it that Jesus expects us to give until it hurts? Now, that would be very
convenient for a parish’s bottom line, but parishes aren’t in the business of
making money, they’re here to make saints. Of course, it does take money
to help in saint-making, but more importantly, it takes conversion. So,
again, Jesus is emphasizing the mental conversion that being his disciple
entails. The widow gives as a principle, the arrogant people give large
amounts, but it seems self-serving. Giving your time, your talent and your
treasure is spiritual short-hand for saying “think like a disciple of Jesus”.
What are you doing with your life? How are you giving back to God and
neighbor?

The Fiat Ministries Discernment Retreat
Fiat Ministries cultivates an authentic culture of discernment
for young women by inspiring them to say yes to the
vocation that God is calling them to. The Fiat Discernment
Retreat is an opportunity for young women to ask questions,
pray, listen, and open their hearts to the Lord’s will.
Throughout this weekend of discernment, participants will
receive wisdom through prayer, presentations by religious
sisters, recreation, and fellowship. Single women, age 18-27
who are seeking to do God’s will, are invited to attend the
upcoming Fiat Discernment Retreat on December 14-16, 2018, at the Spiritual Life Center. The cost of the retreat is
