Sacred Heart Catholic Church Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ October 27, 2019
Reflection from the Stewardship Office:
The lesson in today’s first reading is clear: God shows mercy to humble
people. This theme is also spelled out in the gospel. In this parable, the
Pharisee is filled with pride and his prayer is arrogant. The tax collector is
filled with humility and his prayer certainly reflects it. As much as we
might hate to admit it, many of us live very comfortable lives and may
resemble the Pharisee more closely than we’d like. We get so caught up in
“counting our blessings” that we forget to consider our shortcomings. We
are all sinners; not one of us is better than another. To be fully alive means
to recognize all that God has blessed us with, but it also requires us to
recognize that we desperately need God’s mercy and forgiveness. “Humble
yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10).
Live out your discipleship in such a way that God Himself exalts you.

Knight and Family of the Month
Council 2614 would like to congratulate Jerry Lobmeyer
for being selected Knight / Family of the Month for
September 2019. This year Jerry accomplishes his 50th
service year anniversary as a Knight. We are very grateful
for Jerry's service to the church, school and world. Jerry
currently serves as Council 2614's Treasurer and has served
in many council positions, including as a Past Grand
Knight. He often offers our council information and advise
on our many annual functions and is a cornerstone of our
workers. Jerry is an avid bargain hunter and enjoys finding
coats, clothes and shoes to donate to our parish youth. Jerry
and his wife Lois are putting prayers and love in the hearts
of those they meet and serve. Jerry and Lois are often
having Mass celebrated for many people. They participate
in many parish activities such as Eucharistic Adoration,
Lectors, Greeters and Offertory Gift Bearers. Lois has been
a joy to many students as she is a past teacher at Sacred
Heart Catholic School. Jerry and Lois enjoy traveling to
visit their 3 grown children: Shane, Dana and Amy. They
enjoy spending time with their grandchildren while
traveling or on their visits back to Ark City.
Congratulations on being selected for Council 2614 Knight
/ Family of the Month for September 2019.
