Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!

Happy Father’s Day!! I rejoice in your presence with the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy

for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Your

prayerful participation enriches our Liturgy and brings blessings to our parish community. Thanks for joining us! In my homily last weekend, I mentioned that I see God visiting his people in acts of mercy, in forgiveness, in reconciliation. In today’s Scripture readings, David and a “sinful woman” experience God’s presence in forgiveness. In the Book of Samuel, Nathan the prophet confronts David with his evil deeds. David has spurned the Lord in killing Uriah and in taking the dead man’s wife as his own. Having faced the truth of Nathan’s words, David confesses, “I have sinned against the Lord.” In that it is God’s nature to forgive, “Nathan answered David: The Lord in his part has forgiven your sin.” David experiences God’s presence in this act of mercy. In today’s Gospel, “love” brings about forgiveness. A woman, known as a “sinful woman,” expresses her love in rituals of hospitality. Simon, the Pharisee, sees only a woman who has disregarded the Mosaic law. Knowing his thoughts, Jesus acknowledges her “great love” and proceeds to say, “Your sins are forgiven.” God visits this woman in this act of forgiveness. In our own acts of forgiveness, God visits his people. God is made present in a special way when we extend words of forgiveness to others who have “sinned”. On this Father’s Day, may we be graced with forgiveness in our relationship with father, mother and siblings. Peace be with you! God bless, Fr. McKee

THE FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM,

which we celebrated for the first time last

year, TAKES PLACE THIS YEAR FROM JUNE 21, THE VIGIL OF THE FEASTS OF

ST. JOHN FISHER AND ST. THOMAS MORE, TO JULY 4, INDEPENDENCE DAY.

In 2013, we still face many challenges to religious liberty, including the August 1 deadline for religious organizations to comply with the HHS mandate; potential Supreme Court rulings that could redefine marriage in June causing serious religious liberty issues for Catholic adoption agencies and many others; and religious liberty concerns in other areas, such as immigration and humanitarian services. During the Fortnight, our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power- St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome, St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More. Through prayer, fasting and study and peaceful public action during the Fortnight for Freedom, we hope to remind ourselves and others all throughout the United States about the importance of preserving the fundamental right of religious freedom. For more information on what you can do, visit the USCCB website or the Fortnight for Freedom Facebook Page
