SUMMONED BY GOD As Christmas draws near, Advent’s scriptures lure us into a world of dreams, signs, wonders, and the miracle of the virgin birth. Too often we allow the great stories of our faith, the ones that are most familiar, simply to wash over us. Today’s Gospel account of the events leading up to the birth of the Lord reads like a present-day soap opera. Yet Joseph’s courage, even in the midst of what must have been an incredibly confusing time, provides a model for us. Each week, we are summoned by God to embrace the way of goodness and truth through the proclamation of God’s holy word. Like Joseph, we are called to do as the Lord commands us. As we stand at the threshold of Christmas, let us have the courage to be open to whatever it is that the Lord will require of us as we celebrate the miracle of Bethlehem. LLAMADOS POR DIOS Al acercarse la Navidad, las Escrituras del Adviento nos llevan a un mundo de sueños, señales, maravillas y el milagro del nacimiento de una virgen. Muchas veces dejamos que los grandes relatos de nuestra fe, los que son más conocidos, simplemente nos pasen sin sentirlos. El relato del Evangelio de hoy sobre los acon-tecimientos previos al nacimiento del Señor parece una telenovela actu-al. Sin embargo, la valentía de José, aun en medio de una época que debe haber sido increíblemente confusa, nos brinda un modelo a seguir. Cada semana, Dios nos llama a aceptar el camino de la bondad y la verdad por medio de la proclamación de la Palabra sagrada de Dios. Como José, somos llamados a hacer lo que el Señor nos ordena. Mien-tras estamos en el umbral de la Navidad, tengamos la valentía para estar abiertos a lo que sea, a lo que el Señor requiera de nosotros durante nuestra celebración del milagro de Belén

Dear Parishioners, For the last five years we have dreamed, researched needs, designed plans and fundraised. Many of you have participated in most if not all of these activities. Through donations and pledges, including the Church for Tomorrow grant, the total funds raised are $2.8 million, but more is needed. We have worked diligently to complete Phase 1. The parish preschool has been relocated and now the future site is ready for construction. This beautiful new building has many possible uses. The St. Vincent de Paul Community Life Center will allow us to have room to share our faith, as our community grows. On November 21, Simile Construction submitted to the City of Patterson the complete set of construction plans. We will now work with Simile to determine the construction cost of the facility. Look for a Town Hall reception this spring were the Building Fund Committee will report the information.

At this time, I am asking that you prayerfully consider participating in this effort. If you have already given, please consider a pledge renewal or an additional gift. In the pews, you will see a donation envelope. The self-addressed envelope can be mailed or dropped in the collection basket any Sunday. I ask you to please reflect back on the gifts God has given you when making your decision. The success of this project will ensure a lasting legacy for the future of our parish community.
