From the Pastor & Liturgy

FROM THE PASTOR Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

This ancient greeting on Easter Sunday by Christians has echoed through the centuries. As disciple of the Risen Christ, today we rejoice that God’s promise came true for Jesus; he was raised to new and everlasting life. So as we come together today to celebrate the Resurrec-tion of Jesus, we remember God’s promise for all of us. We who believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, also look for-ward to spending eternal life with the Risen One. That is why we celebrate the Resurrection every Sunday, not just on Easter Sunday. We come Sunday after Sunday to be renewed in our belief in the resurrection and our encounter with the Risen One. I want to extend a special welcome from our parish to all of the guests and visitors who are with us here today. If you are looking for a parish to join—whether you are al-ready a Catholic or wish to become a Catholic, we would be glad to have you become a member of Sacred Heart. I also wish to offer Easter greetings and blessings to all Sacred Heart parishioners. You enrich my life, and I am glad to be the pastor here. As we continue the Easter sea-son, I hope that you will renew your commitment to Christ and your participation in Sunday Mass. May the Risen Christ bless all of you and your family and friends today and always.

Pilgrimage in the Footsteps of Saint Paul to Greece and Turkey

I leave on Wednesday, April 4, to lead 19 pilgrims in the footsteps of Saint Paul to Greece and Turkey until April 14. I will remember all of you in my prayers and at our daily Masses, and I will ask all of the pilgrims to join with me in praying for you. Please keep us in your prayers as well. We will post our progress on our parish website; check it daily for updates. Let us continue to work together to build up the Kingdom of God here at Sacred Heart.

OCTAVE OF EASTER WEEK SCHEDULE We will have Mass at 9 AM on Monday and Wednesday this week. There will be a Funeral Mass for Larry McShane on Tuesday at 11 AM (there will be NO Word and Communion at 9 AM). We will have Word and Communion on Thursday at 9 AM and on Friday at 8:45 AM. There will be a Memorial Mass for Carlos Diaz de Leon Vela on Saturday at 10 AM (followed by a recep-tion in the narthex). There will be NO Rosary or Prayer Hour on Monday; there will be NO confessions on Wednesday morning. We will have the normal schedule of Masses next weekend.

SECOND SUNDAY OF EASTER DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY

Next Sunday, April 8, is the Second Sunday of Easter. “As the eighth day of the Octave of Easter, this Sunday completes the Easter Octave… Historically, this day was given the name Dominica in albis—the last day for the neophytes to wear their white baptismal gar-ments.” (2018 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays, 179) To remind us of the baptismal character of all of Easter Time, we will use the Sprinkling of Wa-ter as a memorial of Baptism in place of the Penitential Act at the beginning of Mass on all the Sundays of East-er. The Second Sunday of Easter also celebrates Divine Mercy. This day was “established by Pope John Paul II as ‘a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face with confidence in divine benevolence the difficulties and trials that humankind will experience in the years to come’ [Congregation for Divine Worship and the Disci-pline of the Sacraments, May 23, 2000]. This is not a new solemnity or feast, nor does it celebrate a new or separate mystery of redemption, but rather, it leads into the continuing celebration of God’s mercy during Easter Time.” (2018 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons, and Weekdays, 179) As Father Jim Kubicki reminded us during his recent visit, Divine Mercy is another aspect of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. There will be an image of Divine Mercy in the Sacred Heart shrine next weekend; there will be holy cards of Divine Mercy with Divine Mercy prayers for people to take home. May the Divine Mercy of God shine upon our parish.

VISITING PRIESTS NEXT WEEKEND

Since Father Steve will be on pilgrimage April 4-14, Fa-ther Charles Barnes, SJ, chaplain at the VA hospital in Seattle, will be the celebrant and homilist at the 5 PM Vigil Mass next Saturday. Father Lyle Konen, CSsR, a senior priest at Sacred Heart parish in Seattle, will be the celebrant and homilist at the 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM Masses next Sunday.

Administration & Stewardship

Please remember the Church in your will!

AND NOW A WORD FROM OUR MISSION STATEMENT…

Sacred Heart Parish is a welcoming Catholic community which inspires faith in God through prayer, sacraments and service, while living Gospel values as faithful followers of Jesus Christ. And this coming week is a true test of how well we walk our talk!

Holy Week through Easter Sunday is a key time of year when we typically see many new faces of visitors from other parts of the country; local Catholics who have not been in Church for a while and those who are simply curious about what Jesus Christ is all about! We want to welcome them all and share the joy of our faith with everyone who joins us this week for prayer. Here are a few suggestions that will enhance our worship together for Easter:

•Plan to arrive at church on the early side to avoid driving too fast in the neighborhood and any frustra-tions over parking; in fact, the hospitable thing to do is to park at the end of the parking lot and leave the spots closer to the door for newcomers (or latecomers).

•Upon entering your pew, scoot down to the middle to allow others to be seated easily. Smile and greet those who are seated next to you.

•If you see a parent struggling with a child’s behavior, offer a friendly smile, a sympathetic nod and make sure they know about the Pew Art Cards and the Children’s Activity Sheet at the back of church.

•Be ready to direct visitors to the Information Table in the narthex or to the restrooms and water dispenser down the south Narthex hallway.

•Contact one of the ushers (folks with the red name tags) if someone near you faints or has a medical issue.

•Introduce yourself to someone you do not know at the Sign of Peace. •A warm smile, a nod or an invitation to return next week can make all the

difference.

“AMEN, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers and sisters, you did for me” Matthew 25:40

USE OF PARISH AND SCHOOL FACILITIES Parishioners and parish groups (including school parents and school groups) are re-minded that ALL USE of any Sacred Heart parish or school facility (including parking lots and play fields)—large or small, long-term or short-term, planned or last minute—must be scheduled in advance and before publication through Lucy Paulsen at the parish office, [email protected], (425) 454-9536. Thank you for your cooperation.

LOOKING FOR A PARISH TO JOIN? Welcome! Sacred Heart Parish is excited to welcome new members to our Christian community. Whether you are a Catholic looking for a new parish or someone searching to belong to a Catholic parish for the first time, we hope that you will consider becoming part of our par-ish. Preparation for CONFIRMATION FOR ADULTS begins next Sunday, April 8th, at 12 noon in Parish Of-fice Conference Room 1. This is a wonderful opportunity for adults 18 and older who never completed their Sacra-ments of Initiation as a teen. (and there are many at Sacred Heart). It is also a great refresher for all adults in preparation for the cele-bration of Pentecost. All are wel-come to attend. For more infor-mation, contact Carol Guenther at 425-450-3910 or [email protected]

JUST IN TIME FOR EASTER-We recommend the 30 minute animated film about Easter at FORMED.Org. It will help the whole family understand the paschal mystery of Christ’s pas-

sion, death and resurrection in picture and song. Go to Formed.org and use the parish code: 2RQTQZ; then search for Brother Francis and pass the popcorn!

Our next Preparation Class for Infant Baptism will be

held on May 20th at 12 noon in Parish Office Conference

Room 1. Parents are asked to register in

advance with Carol Guenther at

425-450-3910 or
