Do you own a catechism? Why we should read it regularly…..
The Catechism is a popular summary of Catholic doctrine about faith and morals designed for use in passing
on and teaching the faith to others.
Why is the Catechism important? Why should we be familiar with the CCC? For every Catholic, knowing
our faith through determined and prayerful study is an essential part of sharing our faith with others. We can-
not give to others what we do not have ourselves. The more we come to know our faith the better we can
share it - and we are ALL called to share our faith. As John Paul II says in the preface to the CCC, “an ex-
traordinary commitment to evangelization is urgently needed so that everyone can know and receive the Gos-
pel message and thus grow “to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Eph 4:13) This Catechism
was commissioned by John Paul II because he wanted it to be studied and to be used as a practical tool, not
just sit on a bookshelf. Like the law of Love preached by Christ Himself, the teaching of our Church on mat-
ters of faith and morals (found in this authoritative Catechism) must be written on our hearts and practiced in
our lives day to day. Let us all answer his call, which is the call of Jesus Christ, to know our faith better so as
to share it more effectively with others not only in the witness of our lives, but in word and deed as well. So,
we must make the effort to pray and study while trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit to grant the grace we
need in this “labor of love.”

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY DOMENICA DI DIVINA MISERICORDIA APRIL 8,2018
Sacred Heart Parish 303 Paris Street, East Boston, MA 02128
Values that Last a Lifetime!
1. Make the Sign of the Cross
2. Optional Opening Prayers
You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envel-op the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. (Repeat three times) O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of Mercy for us, I trust in You!
3. Our Father
4. Hail Mary
5. The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrec-tion of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
6. The Eternal Father
Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.
7. On Ten Small Beads of Each Decade
For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
8. Repeat for the remaining decades
Saying the "Eternal Father" (6) on the "Our Father" bead and then 10 "For the sake of His sorrowful Passion" (7) on the following "Hail Mary" beads.
9. Conclude with Holy God (Repeat three
times)
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.
10. Optional Closing Prayer
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and in-crease Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.
In 1935, St. Faustina received a vision of an angel sent by God to chastise a certain city. She began to pray for mercy, but her prayers were powerless. Sud-denly she saw the Holy Trinity and felt the power of Jesus’ grace within her. At the same time she found herself pleading with God for mercy with words she heard interiorly: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Je-sus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us. (Diary, 475) As she continued saying this inspired prayer, the an-gel became helpless and could not carry out the de-served punishment (see 474). The next day, as she was entering the chapel, she again heard this interior voice, instructing her how to recite the prayer that our Lord later called "the Chaplet." This time, after "have mercy on us" were added the words "and on the whole world" (476). From then on, she recited this form of prayer almost constantly, offering it especially for the dying. In subsequent revelations, the Lord made it clear that the Chaplet was not just for her, but for the whole world. Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death (687). When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the Merciful Savior (1541). Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy (687). I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (687). Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My will. (1731)
