Our Ideas

At first when we discussed about road safety we talked about new implementations on cars, or on traffic lights. We designed new traffic signs that can help. But besides, all of them were to make roads a safer place, we realized that they all had something in common: We were trying to prevent accidents caused by insensibleness of people by changing the tools. So we realized that we had to work on this insensibleness. Because as much as we do something about the tools, as long as the people are insensible there will be accidents.

Our Ideas

Taking everything into account, we thought that explaining the basic structure of risky behaviors and precautions to primary school, middle school and high school students who have a vivid imagination should be appropriate. Therefore, we made a labor, that we saw the world from their eyes and walked in their shoes to find solutions for our future.

Our Vision

We think that, raising public awareness should be our number one priority when it comes to making our roads safer. The most important key point in this issue is to remind people that these topics are not jokes but crucial. Many accidents are caused by unconsciousness. People should start to care more.

Our Purpose

We believe that the best way to create this awareness in our community is to start with our future kids: future road users ( The younger generation ).Education is the essential tool to pass this knowledge and awareness. As a result while deciding the events and activities that we were going to do, we focused on educating the students in these projects.

WHAT WE DID: STEP BY STEP

First Step We organized a painting competition between the first grade classmates.

Second Step We prepared a traffic game in our traffic zone for the second graders.

Third Step We made a presentation to eight graders about road safety.

Fourth Step We arranged a poster contest among ninth grade students

First Step: Painting Contest

The little ones are the ones with the best imagination. Maybe it is hard for them to find advanced solutions to road problems but we always knew that we can ignite a flame in their minds. Every stunning invention starts with an inspired and bold mind.

First Step: Painting Contest

So starting with this vision :

First we made them a speech about road safety and we shared our purpose in this project. Then we presented the painting contest that we thought about.

We asked them to use their imagination and draw the most useful car that they believe, the car will be beneficial to reduce the rate of accidents. In other words we asked them to draw “the future car” . We encouraged them to do their best . We knew they would .

Conclusion

We received so many wonderful paintings. We were more than pleased with the works. They were really inspiring and surprisingly very good. We thanked all the kids for their amazing efforts and gave them candies as a reward. They were also very happy about the result.

Step Two: Traffic Simulation

The best way to implement something learnt is to practice it . So we welcome you to our traffic simulation .

First we found the best place to implement our traffic stimulation lessons which happened to be in our school .

Then we created an imaginary community which had Markets ,a Bank , a Cinema , a Park and real people .

During the simulation we gave them tasks to accomplish in different locations like : Taking the money from bank to the shopping in the supermarket .

The traffic rules were monitored by the facilitators while the students were driving and using crossing the Presbyterian .

Empowering

Words in actions

Conclusion

The simulation was very efficient and beneficial. Actually some of the students were really responsible about how to behave in traffic, even if they knew it was not real but just a simulation. We felt very hopeful and happy about this issue. Because as we said before even they are very young right now, they will be active drivers on roads in real world when they grow up. And this responsibility that the kids learnt will help them when they grow up. Also this is very important for not only for their future but also for our future .

Step 3: Presentation

When it came to doing an activity with older students, we thought that making a more academic event would be more beneficial and efficient . Older students are a lot more aware of the fact that road safety is a serious topic. So we needed to make a more serious event that they could remember how important it is.

We prepared a presentation for them with a content of risky behaviors and their preventions. Also we wanted to see that if they knew the traffic signs or not. So we put a little game at the end of the presentation.

Education

Conclusion

The presentation itself was a success. But sadly the mini game was a failure. We saw that most of the students didn’t know the traffic signs. So we decided to put traffic signs stickers on the food that sold in canteen to teach kids the traffic signs and their meaning. Without any doubt this was the most effective way to teach them traffic signs and how important they are.

Step 4: Poster Contest

We knew that our 9 graders would be more aware of this road safety. So we wanted them to share their knowledge with the whole school by making a poster about it.

The main task that we gave them was to prepare a poster about risky behaviors and preventions.

Creativity

Working Hard

Conclusion

There were really great posters. They were emphasizing the key points very well. It was a very hard decision to choose the best 5 posters among all the posters that they have made. The first 5 place were rewarded with free movie tickets.

Exhibition

We prepared an exhibition for the whole school on the wall at the great entrance. We exhibited the paintings that 1st graders made and also the posters that 9th graders prepared.

Looking Good !

Thank You For Your Attention!!
