• They are the leading cause of medical spending for U.S. children ages 5 to 14.

• One of every five U.S. children will need medical attention for an accidental injury this year.

• For every U.S. child injured, the average cost is more than $12,700. That includes medical costs, future earnings lost and lost quality of life. Each year, injuries incur a total lifetime cost of $303.4 billion.

• Since our inception in 1987 in the U.S., we have grown to more than 300 coalitions.

• The death rate has declined by more than 45 percent from 1987 to 2002.

• Since 1987, fatal accidental injury in children has decreased nationwide by 43%.

• In 2004 in Nevada , we saw an 18% increase statewide of booster seat usage

• In Washoe County in 2000, there were seven children killed in motor vehicle crashes. In 2005 – there was only one.
