72% of child pedestrian deaths occur at non-intersection locations.

Nearly two-thirds of child pedestrian deaths occur in males.

Children under the age of 10 are unable to correctly judge the speed of

vehicles. This puts them at greater risk of injury and death.

Tips for keeping your child safe

Walk with a friend and follow the school route

Wear retroreflective material or carry a flashlight

Cross only at intersections

1. Stop at the curb or edge of the street.

2. Look left, right, and left again for traffic.

3. Wait until no traffic is coming before crossing.

4. Keep looking for traffic until you have finished crossing.

5. Walk; do not run across the street.

Holiday Safety Tips

D e c o r a t i o n s

Poinsettias are known to be poisonous to

humans and animals, so keep them out of

reach or avoid having them.

Take special care to avoid decorations that are sharp and

breakable; keep trimmings with small removable parts out of

the reach of children.

Avoid trimmings that resemble candy and food that may

tempt a young child to put them in his mouth.

K i t c h e n

Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home

fires in the United States, when cooking

remember to stay in the kitchen.

Foods that require refrigeration should never be

left at room temperature for more than two hours.

Be sure to keep hot liquids and food away from the edges of

counters and tables, where they can be easily knocked over.

Keep goals simple Raise awareness before encouraging change

I don’t know it all, but I know enough. Get out there and do it!
