OUR APPROACH
KEY PRINCIPLES
India is a oral Society
Knowledge and education as the central process
Engaging in dialogue with as many people/stakeholders as possible particularly governments at all levels
Working aggressively within the space provided by governments, schools and education department
2008
National Disaster Management Authority formally adopted SEEDS Model of School Safety
Today school safety is a priority area for national Government
A Recent Supreme Court Verdict
• The Supreme Court have directed all the States and Union Territories to implement the safety measures prescribed by the national Building Code of India, 2005 in all government and private schools.
• “Children cannot be compelled to receive education in an unsound and unsafe building”. The court issued a comprehensive time-bound plan to ensure safety of children in schools
• The teachers along with other staff shall be trained to handle safety equipment, initiate emergency evacuations and protect their students in the event of fire and other emergencies.
WHAT HAS WORKED FOR US
The conviction that in an oral society
Governments relate to governmentsSchool children talk to school childrenParents are more open with other parentsCommunities relate to communities
Providing frequent platform for such interactions through exchange programs, exposure visits trainings and workshops.
A strong presence at local level schools in the most disaster prone regions
