Safeguarding Children (Introduction) Aim: To provide delegates with a basic awareness of safeguarding children, including an awareness of the categories of abuse, the ability to identify the signs of abuse and to know what to do if you have concerns about a child. Learning Objectives:• Understand the various types of abuse and neglect• Identify signs of abuse and know what to look for• Know what to do if you suspect a child is being abused• Understand the importance of reporting your concerns

Duration: ½ day

Target Audience: This course is an introduction to safeguarding for those employees who although do not work directly with children, do have contact with children as part of their professional duties. This module can be made bespoke for individual settings.

Safeguarding Children (Foundation)

Aim: To provide delegates with a thorough knowledge, awareness and understanding of all aspects of safeguarding children including promoting the welfare of children and protecting children from significant harm.

Learning Objectives:• Explore what constitutes safeguarding children and in particular protecting children from significant harm.• Be able to identify the signs that a child is being abused or neglected.• Explore both criminal and family law aspects relating to safeguarding children• Know how to ask questions if you suspect a child is being abused• Know what to do if you suspect a child is being abused• Understand the importance of keeping records• Know what happens when concerns are passed to Children’s Social Care.

Duration: Full day

Target Audience: This course is a foundation course in safeguarding children for those employees who work directly with children as part of their professional duties. This module can be made bespoke for individual settings.

Safeguarding Children (Update) Aim: To refresh and update delegate’s knowledge about safeguarding children

Learning Objectives:• Refresh delegate’s knowledge regarding safeguarding children and child abuse and neglect.• Explore the latest developments relating to safeguarding children• Reflect on own and colleagues experiences of protecting children and promoting their health and development

Duration: ½ day Target Audience: This course is for those employees who have undertaken the Safeguarding children course and as part of their organisational standards require their knowledge, awareness and understanding to be refreshed / updated on a regular basis. This module can be made bespoke for individual settings.

Safeguarding Investigative skills and evidence gathering

Aim: To provide delegates with an overview of investigative methods employed in safeguarding children investigations / inquiries.

Learning Objectives:• To identify the nature and scope of an investigation and understand the initial responsibilities when commencing an investigation. • To demonstrate investigative planning, decision making and recording of the investigative process.• To identify and categorise vulnerable and intimidated witnesses, obtain evidence in accordance with Achieving Best Evidence. • To understand the legal and judicial process involved in both Criminal and family proceedings.

Duration: 2 days

Target Audience: This course is for those employees who have responsibility for undertaking or assisting in safeguarding / child protection investigations or those with specific safeguarding responsibilities in a particular organisation or setting who it is considered require a thorough understanding of the investigative process. This module can be made bespoke for individual settings.

Child Sexual Exploitation Aim: To develop delegate’s knowledge, awareness and understanding of child sexual exploitation and how to respond appropriately. Learning Objectives:• Be able to identify Child Sexual Exploitation • Understand risk and vulnerability in relation to sexual exploitation• Have an awareness of grooming techniques used by perpetrators• Have explored cases studies to consolidate understanding of child sexual exploitation

Duration: Full day Target Audience: This course is for those employees who have undertaken the Safeguarding children course and as part of their professional role require an understanding of child sexual exploitation. This module can be made bespoke for individual settings.

Safeguarding and online abuse Aim: To raise awareness of safeguarding issues for children and the online world Learning Objectives:• Understand the nature of the internet and online world • Have an awareness of the risks children face• Have an awareness of the law relating to protecting children from online abuse and exploitation• Know how to respond where you believe a child may be at risk of online abuse.• Have an awareness of the need as a professional to protect themselves and their professional reputation

Duration: Full day Target Audience: This course is for those employees who as part of their professional role require an understanding of online child abuse.

Safeguarding and PREVENT Aim: To develop delegate’s knowledge, awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding children who may be vulnerable to being drawn into violent extremism and radicalisation Learning Objectives:• Have an awareness of the Government’s PREVENT strategy • Understand what constitutes violent extremism and radicalisation• Know what makes a child more vulnerable and know the risk indicators which may make a child vulnerable to extremism and radicalisation• Have an awareness of how to obtain support for a child believed to be at risk of radicalisation

Duration: 1/2 day Target Audience: This course is for those employees who as part of their professional role require an understanding of extremism and radicalisation.

Safeguarding Adults at Risk (Foundation) Aim: To provide delegates with a thorough knowledge, awareness and understanding of all aspects of safeguarding adults at risk. Learning Objectives:• Explore what constitutes adults at risk of harm.• Be able to identify the signs that an adult is being abused or neglected.• Explore the law relating to safeguarding adults.• Know how to respond if you suspect an adult is at risk of harm• Understand the importance of keeping records• Know what happens when concerns are passed to Adults Social Care.

Domestic Abuse Aim: To develop delegate’s knowledge, awareness and understanding of domestic abuse and to respond appropriately.

Learning Objectives:• Understand domestic abuse• Have an awareness of the law, both criminal and civil, which can be used to protect a survivor of domestic abuse• Know how to respond where you believe a person may be subject of domestic abuse.

Duration: Full day Target Audience: This course is for those employees who as part of their professional role require an understanding of domestic abuse.
