Safety Classes Available from the American Red
Cross By John Guandolo
Introduction National defense professional John Guandolo is a retired officer
with the U.S. Marine Corps. John Guandolo also was a nationally registered paramedic for 10 years and charitably extended his knowledge of life-saving practices to the American Red Cross as a CPR and first-aid instructor. In addition to CPR, the American Red Cross offers a variety of other classes designed to instruct students in specific areas of health and safety.
For individuals over the age of 6 who are interested in learning to swim, the American Red Cross offers swimming and water safety classes. Meeting for 8 to 10 sessions that last about 45 minutes, students learn to swim at a pace that suits them, with the added benefit of training for life-threatening emergencies that occur around water.
American Red Cross To help employers offer better protection to employees on
general industry and construction sites, the American Red Cross partners with OSHA to provide training in best health and safety practices when working with machinery and dangerous chemicals. Courses are available in both Spanish and English and can be taken online.
Additional Red Cross classes include options that can further a career in health. By enrolling in the organization’s nurse assistant training, students can better prepare themselves for the State Competency Test and obtain their certification to become a certified nursing assistant.
