1 Area of applicability

These safety instructions apply to the pressure transmitters VEGABAR series 60 of type seriesVEGABAR BR61.DI*****H/P/F***, VEGABAR BR64/65/67.DI****H/P/F*** and VEGABAR BR66.

DI******H/P/F*** according to the EC type approval certificate PTB 07 ATEX 2005 X with the 1stsupplement (certification number on the type label).

2 General information

The measuring instruments on pressure basis VEGABAR BR6*.D… are also used for pressure andlevel measurement in hazardous areas.

The measured products can also be combustible liquids, gases, mist or vapour.

The VEGABAR BR6*.D… consist of an electronics housing with an "Ex-d" connection compartmentwith barrier and an "Ex-i" connection compartment with integrated electronics module, a processconnection element and a sensor, the pressure measuring cell with optional isolating diaphragm. Theindicating and adjustment module can also be integrated in the "Ex-i" connection compartment.

The VEGABAR BR6*.D… are suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres of all combustible materialsof explosion group IIA, IIB and IIC, for applications requiring instruments of category 1/2G or category2G.

If the VEGABAR BR6*.D… are installed and operated in hazardous areas, the general Ex installationregulations EN 60079-14 as well as these safety instructions must be observed.

The operating instructions as well as the valid Ex mounting regulations and standards for electricalequipment must be observed.

The installation of explosion-endangered systems must always be carried out by qualified personnel.

2.1 Category 1/2G instruments

The process connection element is installed in the separating wall, which separates areas in whichinstruments of category 2G or 1G are required. The electronics housing is installed in hazardousareas requiring instruments of category 2. The sensor is installed in hazardous areas requiringinstruments of category 1G.

2.2 Category 2G instruments

The VEGABAR BR6*.D… are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments of category 2G.

3 Technical data

3.1 Electrical data

The non-intrinsically safe circuits are connected to terminals in the "Ex-d" connection compart-ment.

The intrinsically safe circuits are grounded.

The metallic parts of the VEGABAR BR6*.D… are electrically connected with the earth terminals.

5 Protection against static electricity

The VEGABAR BR6*.D… in versions with electrostatically chargeable plastic parts, such as e.g.metal housing with inspection window, plastic-coated sensors, suspension cable/hose, distance tubeor the connection cable of the separated version, a caution label points out the safety measures thatmust be taken with regard to electrostatic charges during operation.

6 Grounding

The pressure-tight connection compartment of VEGABAR BR6*.D… includes a safety barrier withoutgalvanic separation. For safety reasons, the intrinsically safe circuit must be grounded. The externalor internal ground connection terminal on the housing serves for this purpose.

7 Impact and friction sparks

When used as category 1/2G instruments, the VEGABAR BR6*.D… in aluminium/titanium versionsmust be mounted in such a way that sparks from impact and friction between aluminium/titanium andsteel (except stainless steel, if the presence of rust particles can be excluded) cannot occur.

8 Material resistance

With applications requiring instruments of category 1/2G the VEGABAR BR6*.D… should only beused in media against which the wetted materials are sufficiently resistant.

9 Installation/mounting

The VEGABAR BR6*.D… have to be mounted such that they are effectively secured against thedanger by touching the sensor on the vessel wall under consideration of the vessel installations andflow conditions in the vessel. Especially suspension pressure transmitters and versions with distancetube lengths of more than 3 m are concerned.

10 Mounting with external indicating unit VEGADIS 61

The intrinsically safe signal circuit between VEGABAR BR6*.D… and the external indicating unitVEGADIS 61 should be set up without grounding. The required insulation voltage is > 500 V AC.

When using VEGA connection cable, this requirement is fulfilled. If grounding of the cable screen isrequired, it must be carried out according to EN 60079-14 paragr. 12.2.2.3.

11 Ignition protection type pressure-tight encapsulation Ex "d"

The terminals for connecting to the operating voltage, i.e. signal circuits, are integrated in theconnection compartment according to ignition protection type pressure-tight encapsulation "d".

The gap between housing and cover is an ignition-proof gap.

The "Ex-d" connection compartment is provided with a M20 x 1.5 or ½-14 NPT thread for connectionto a certified "Conduit" system or for mounting of a "Ex-d" cable entry certified according toEN 60079-1. Cable entries of simple construction may not be used. Please take note of section 13.1

and 13.2 of EN 60079-1.When connecting to a "Conduit" system the appropriate seal facility must belocated directly on the "Ex-d" connection compartment.

As a factory setting, a certified "Ex-d" cable entry is supplied. It is suitable for insertion of all armouredand unarmoured cables depending on the ordered version. The attention drawn to the accompanyingdocument of the respective cable entry is mandatory. The "Ex-d" cable entry must be screwed intothe housing. The supplied cable entry is suitable for the housing temperature range mentioned in theVEGABAR BR6*.D… specification. If another cable entry is used, the separately certified cable entryor the temperature classes on the electronics determines the maximum permissible ambienttemeprature on the housing.

Before opening or in case of the lid of the "Ex-d" connection compartment is open (e. g. withconnection or service work), make sure that either the supply line is voltage free or no explosiveatmosphere is present.

When wiring the connection line to the "Ex-d" connection compartment, it must be sufficientlysecured against damage and in conformity with EN 60079-14.

The cover of the Exd connection compartment must be screwed in completely before commissioningand secured by screwing out the lid locking screw all the way to the stop.

The cover of the "Ex-d" connection compartment with the caution label "Do not… is present" and thecover of the "Ex-i" connection compartment without caution label must not be exchanged. The coversmust be mounted on the corresponding connection compartments.
