IMPORTANT Safety Recall #07E-10B - Hub Assembly Recall Technician Service Instructions

Federal-Mogul has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists concerning certain wheel hub assemblies sold as replacement parts only. Therefore, Federal-Mogul voluntarily recalls the following National'" and CARQUEST Premium (BGS/Blue) wheel hub assembly part numbers sold beginning with the dates noted below.

The hub assembly's inboard retention nut used to maintain the hub bearing assembly can loosen, resulting in an ASS light indication, noise, and/or wheel separation from the vehicle. Wheel separation can result in a vehicle crash.

On 4x4 vehicles, while the vehicle is parked on the ground, remove decorative chrome wheel trim (if present)_ Remove retaining ring clip from outboard end of hub, Pull hub lock mechanism outward to removethis may require some wiggling ofthe part but NO TOOLS should be used during this particular task. Observe ayellow, green or blue paint mark atthe bottom of the hub lock cavity in hub (Figure 1).lfthe paint mark is present, the hub assembly is good. Reverse the above procedure for installation. Referto the Ford service manual for additional information on service procedures of hub locks.lfthe paint mark is not present, raise vehicle on an approved hoist and goto step2.

18. On 2x4vehicles, the inspection requires vehicle to be raised on an approved hoist first. The hub assembly is good if ayellow, green or blue paint mark is observed on the grease cap located onthe inboard side of the steering knuckle (Figure 2). Wipe the grease cap clean for proper viewing. If the paint mark is not present, go to step 2.

2. Remove wheel.

3. Remove brake rotor.

4. Clean rust from hub assembly face (Figure 3) to check forthe date code stamping (Figure 4).

Federal-Mogul Corporation has announced a safety recall on specific National- and CARQUES Premium (BGS/Blue) wheel hub assemblies sold beginning with the dates noted inside. Forthe listed vehicles on the chart inside, visual inspection can be performed and determination may be made to confirm whether or notthe suspect hub assemblies have been installed.

Vehicle service records indicate you may have had a recalled hub assembly installed as areplacement part during the subject period. To properly determine if a recalled hub assembly was installed, we ask that you make an appointment with our service department for a free inspection. The inspection will involve removing the front wheel and front brake rotor to view the product date code, and hub assembly replacement if necessary. The inspection will take approximately one hour. Hub assembly replacement will require additional time.
