National Safety Day Celebrations

Trombay

Trombay celebrated 41st National Safety Day with lots of energy and enthusiasm. There was good participation from all the departments and also from the contractors. Various competitions are held and were regarded for their dedicated participation. Mr. D E Sonawane – Deputy Director, Directorate of Industrial Safety & Health (DISH) is the Chief Guest of the event. Some of the glimpses of safety day celebrations are shown below.

Distribution Sub Station at MIAL

Function with the help of Corporate Safety was arranged by Central Construction Services –

Civil at their ongoing construction site for Distribution Sub-station 2 at “Mumbai International

Airport Limited” on 10th March 2012 between 11 A.M to 1 P.M. An occassion was graced by presence of Chief Guests Mr. Chelliah Sridher (Head-Corporate Safety) and Mr. Dilip Golam (Head-Civil).

An around 50 workers, supervisors, safety staff from M/s Arco Construction and M/s Allied Techno Services have attended this programme. Prior to the programme, some workers have expressed their views on safety through banners, poems, slogans, etc. This was displayed on site.

Following events were conducted:

DISTRIBUTION CAPEX SITE

Safety Week was celebrated at Raheja Inter phase on 7th Mar 12 & Gen next on 9th Mar 12 Dist Capex Project site. Around 60 people including Tata Power officers, workmen, contractors supervisor & workmen attended these sessions.

During one hour program all persons administered the safety oath under the guidance of Mr. Santosh Dange ( Tata Power Safety Officer). Site In-charge Mr. Rajesh Chawan & Mr. CK Varghese addressed the gathering on do‟s and don‟ts of safety practices, importance of wearing PPE‟s etc.

At Gen Next Mr. Iven from M/s Lakhani Shreeja Engg. shared his valuable safety experience and laid emphasis on important role of the supervisor in ensuring site safety.

Both the programs ended with safety quiz and prize distribution.

We have announced the following safety competitions for Tata Power employees and our business associates for the celebration of 41s National Safety week.

Transmission

“Safety Day” was celebrated at all divisions in Transmission with enthusiastic participation of all employees including contractor employees. The Safety day celebration activities included

1) Safety Pledge, 2) Safety Skits on near miss incidents, 3) Fire fighting demo, 4) Emulsifier system operation, 5) Safety QUIZ” competitions, 6) Safety Slogan Competitions, 7) Safety Poster competitions,

There was tremendous response from all employees, their families and contractors in all the above activities. This was then followed by Safety film show in all divisions. At Kolshet “Snake

Show” was also arranged to create awareness amongst the employees. All competition winners were given prizes from the hands of Zonal Heads & Divisional heads. Safety day celebration photos of some divisions are attached below

Haldia

In continuation to its commitment towards safety, Haldia Division celebrated week long program on the eve of 41st National Safety Day from 4th to 10th March, 2012. The program was inaugurated by Garlanding to J.N. Tata, Unfurling of the NSD Flag and lighting of candles by Factory Inspector. Tata Power and contractor employees both actively participated in the program. Rewards and recognitions were given to Tata Power and contractor employees for their outstanding contribution in Safety and winners of different safety events like Slogan, Poster, Suggestion, Quiz competition etc. Safety awareness program was also conducted for the students of St. Xavier‟s School at Haldia.

Inspector of Factories (W.B.) Mr. Sudip Patra was chief guest in the closing ceremony on 12th March. Winners‟ prizes of different safety competitions were awarded by Factory Inspector.

Jamshedpur

SSEPS (Suraksha, Swasthya Evam Paryavarana Samiti), a Safety Committee maintained by Tata Power Jamshedpur Power Plant celebrated Safety week from 12th March to 17th March,2012. During these days SSEPS organized various programs for Company Employee and also for Stakeholder.

Safety Week Celebration was started by a Mass Meeting where all stake holders participated and took Safety Oath. During the meeting a speech competition was organized on the Importance of Safety. A Safety Quiz on “Incident Reporting & Investigation” was organized on 14th March for Employees and a general Safety quiz related to “Critical work at Site” for Stakeholders.

A Competition called “Hazard Hunt” was organized for Employees to encourage them in finding out the hazards in site. For Stake Holder Employees we organized a competition named “Select and

Wear Correct PPE‟s” to evaluate the Training given and future Training Needs on PPE‟s.

We Organized a Two Days training on Tata Power‟s “Safety Vision, Policies, Standard and

Procedure, Fire Safety, SIAT” for Employees and went for a field visit to find out Unsafe condition

observed by the participants further improvement in safety. Apart from this Training sessions for Stake Holder Employees on “Electrical Safety, Working at Height, Fire Fighting and First Aid Procedure” were organized.

Safety Poster and Safety Slogan Competition were conducted where Employees and Stake Holder employees and their family participated.

The Expectation was exceeded by Participants. Finally on the final day of concluding function all the participants were invited and presented them a memento.

CGPL Mundra

41st National Safety Week Celebration, started on March 4, several awareness programmes and competitions were organized as part of it. Safety day Opening function was attended by all senior officials of the company including Chief Guest Mr. UR Soni, Deputy Director – Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Kutch region.

The week-long schedule included various programmes related to safety measures such as Electrical safety training, Confined space safety and welding & gas cutting safety training , work at Height training etc.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Sharad Baijal said, “Safety is most important for CGPL. Due to the

regular implementation of safety measures, we are able to maintain good safety standard on Mundra UMPP site and the number of accidents has been reduced to almost zero.”

Chief Guest Mr. UR Soni applauded CGPL for maintaining good safety standards and systems at Mundra site. He also asked management to work towards goal to achieve “Zero Incident, Zero Harm “ to protect people from industrial accidents” speaking on the occasion.

Several activities for awareness such as Safety Slogan (Hindi, English and Gujarati) Competition for employees, employees families and contract employees, Safety Quiz for employees and employee families and painting competition were organized .

The „Safety Rally “was organised on Project site and it went through Plant area.

Safety Department in association with Ladies Club has organised “On the Spot Safety Quiz “competition in Ashiyana Township for employees‟ family. Questions related to Home Safety, Electrical safety, Fire safety and First Aid were asked to spread awareness on safety among employee families. Special Focus was on take safety to home and make employee families aware about importance of Safety in day to day life. Nearly 50 employee families attended the Programme. On the spot prizes were awarded for each right answer.

Sit and Draw Drawing Competition at Village Schools Coastal Gujarat Power Limited, Mundra has organised “Sit and Draw” drawing Competition in Tunda, Vandh, Kandagra and Nana Badiya Primary Schools to spread awareness on safety among school Children on the occasion of safety week Special Focus was on Home Safety, Road Safety and Electrical Safety awareness. Presentation on Home safety, Road Safety and Electrical Safety was shown to school children to make them aware about importance of Safety in day to day life. School Children and their teachers were invited in the Safety day closing cermony function held in our premises and First , second and third Prize was given to Winners of the drawing competition school wise.

2. Three years of incident Free working by Distribution Support

Services (DSS)

The Distribution Support Services has completed 3 years of incident free working on February 25, 2012. This milestone was celebrated by hosting a function at Dharavi on March 5.

This function was attended by all employees of Distribution Support Services. Mr. Ashok Sethi, Chief - Operations Management, Mr. Chelhiah Sridher, Head Corp. Safety, Mr. S.B. Hindurao, Head MO HR & Admin and along with the leaders of Distribution graced the occasion. During this function employees of Tata Power and supervisors of our business associates were rewarded for their valuable contribution towards safe working at sites.

3. New joinee in Safety Department - MEPL

SURESH SURAM has joined TATA Power Safety team on 6th February 2012. He is attached to O&M Services on MEPL Site at Nellore District, as Manager-Safety.

He has 27 years of experience in various industries, before joining Tata Power he worked with Schwing Stetter India Private Limited as Senior Manager-Safety, Health & Environment for the past four (04) years. Prior to this he was with Visteon Automotive Systems for five (05) years, EID Parry (India) Limited for seven (07) Years and Gayatri Engineering Company for eleven (11) Years.

He holds Diploma in Industrial Safety from Regional Labour Institute, Chennai, PG Diploma in Environment Management from Anna University and AMIE (Civil) from The Institution of Engineers (India) and is an IRCA qualified Lead Auditor for ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2007. Also he is trained on Behaviour Based Safety by Mr. Lary Wilson from Dupont.

Suresh, a Summit Award winner from Visteon Corporation for his excellence in Safety Management implementation and driving the organization towards winning Golden Peacock Award for Occupational Safety and Health is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India). He is also a life member in Safety Engineers Association (India).

5. Security Highlights

TROMBAY

Heightening of perimeter wall construction CAPEX Project is in progress under surveillance & physical security. Total expenditure of 1.75 crore till date with capitalized amount of ` 76 Lakhs.

Training of Command Control Centre staff at Trombay by M/S Mahindra Special Services Group. Is in progress. Preparation of SOP for CCC is in final stage.

IB Security Audit Trombay – Carried out by Jt. Dy Dir Mr Trivedi and team on 01st & 02 Feb 2012

Mr. Padmanabhan ED (OPS) visited Trombay thermal plant at around 1130hrs on 12th Feb2012.

Security & traffic arrangements carried out for Long Service Award Function at Sports Complex, Tata Colony on 17 Feb 12. 04 Security staff were given Long service awards given by MD.

TROMBAY UNION ELECTION HELD ON 27 FEB.2012, necessary security arrangements were provided in the plant.

41 Delegates from HAVARD UNIVERSITY SCHOOL visited plant. Necessary traffic and security arrangement were provided during the visit on 28 Feb.2012.

CGPL

On 05 Feb 2012 a team of NDRF (National Disaster Rescue Force) along with CGPL Security team gave a demonstration in which they demonstrated the simplest way to save lives in the time of disaster by improvising readily available local resources. Many CGPL employees including Safety and Security attended.

Mockdrill was conducted on 29 Feb 2012 at 1620 hrs, with a scenario of fire breaking out at the FOPH plant to check out emergency preparations of security, safety & fire & medical teams.

JOJOBERA

The construction of security barrack & heightening of the Boundary wall work is in progress.

Security classes during the safety training has been inititated by the security officers of Tata power to make the contractors workmen aware of the Do's and Don‟ts in respect to security,

while working inside the Plant area.

The training was imparted to the 40 security personnel of SIS by the security agency along with Head security and other security officers of Tata Power.
