Surface PreparationCoating must be applied as top coat over white color or light color inorder to optimize photoluminescent properties.

ALL SURFACESRemove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washingthe surface with detergent or other suitable cleaner. Mold and mildew must be cleaned with a chlorinated cleaner or bleach solution. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow to fully dry. All surfaces must be dry at time of application.

Direction of use

Brush

1. Always use a good quality brush which is as large as possible for the job you are doing.

2. Avoid using a new brush for a final coat as new brushes have a tendency to shed bristles.

3. For best results use a crisscross technique on an area that is manageable. This involves brushing from side to side, followed by up and down

4. Continue until the paint is evenly distributed over the area, with the final strokes being very light ('laying off') and in a vertical direction

5. Paint with the brush at an angle of 45o to minimize brush marks.

6. During painting, the paint will start to cure on the brush, cleaning the brush every 30 minutes (approximately) will

ensure consistent performance.

Thoroughly stir material prior to use to ensure all of the photoluminescent pigment is completely dispersed. Stir material periodically during application especially prior dipping the brush into the paint.

Multipe coats are required to achieve maximum film thickness, brightness and uniformity of appearance. Actual coverage rate will vary according to equipment choice, application techniques, surface profile, surface porosity, film thickness, thinner addition, and environment.

STEELHand or power tool clean to remove loose rust, mill scale, and deteriorated existing coatings. Steel surfaces should be primed for optimal performance.

CONCRETE AND MASONRYHand or power tool clean to remove all loose or unsound concrete, masonry, or previous coating. Very dense, non-porous concrete should be acid etched or abrasive blasted to remove the laitance layer and create a surface profile. Allow new concrete to cure for 30 days before coating.

PREVIOUSLY COATEDPreviously coated surfaces must be sound and in good condition. Smooth, hard, or glossy finishes should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile. The SAFETY#1 paint is compatible with most coatings, but a test patch is suggested.

Luminance Characteristics

The afterglow of photoluminescent film degrades with time once the charging source is removed.
