Acknowledgment

I would like to thank the Royal Oman Police to what they are doing so we will safe.

Also, for the people that are trying to stop accidents with all what they have.

Abstract

Today, Oman is focusing a real challenge that how to reduce accidents. Speeding is

the main cause for accidents. Neglect, overtaking and improper act are important

minor causes. Royal Oman Police is trying to do what they could to solve this issue.

More work need to be done so accidents start to reduce gradually. The focus should

be on the driver to reduce accidents. Government should focus to increase the feel

more responsible about his action. Also, traffic policy should be revised and

evaluated in monthly basis's.

Introduction

Nowadays accidents in Oman are a major concern for Omani people as a

Government and a nation. The government represented in Royal Oman Police and

ministry of transportation and communication tries to reduce the accidents as much

as possible. Many technique, researches and strategies are studied and applied to

reduced accidents. As example, improving the level of safety in highways. Also the

society tries their best to reduce accident by educate people about safety.

Causes of Accidents and Casualties

There are many reasons and causes of accident. Also they would vary in term of

accident and death numbers. As Example, improper act caused 1609 accidents with

141 deaths. On the other hand, overtaking caused 384 accidents with 175 deaths. So

it is depend on the cause, how much it happened and is it a serious dead cause.

The main cause of accidents in term of death and injury numbers is the speed. Speed

cause 4328 accidents, 595 deaths and 5424 injuries. Overtaking is the second cause

in term of deaths with 175 deaths but in terms of accidents and injuries number is

the second cause. Also, neglect is another cause with 721 accidents, 94 deaths and

672 injuries. Moreover Vehicle Defects, Fatigue, Drunk while Driving, Safety

Distance, Road Defects, Sudden Stopping and Weather Condition are other causes of

accidents and casualties (ROP, 2012).

The number of accidents and Deaths is increased rapidly. The accidents raise from

7719 to 8209 as well deaths. Reasons behind this increase that Cars, drivers and

highways is more than in 2011.

Conclusion

Accidents are gradually increased year by year. Speed is the main cause of accidents.

The focus should be on the driver to reduce accidents. Government should focus to

increase the feel more responsible about his action. If they success that the

accidents will be reduced. Also, the strategies and policy of Traffic Law should be

reviewed.
