Hi Everyone,We welcome the new year

with zest and zeal and wish all our readers and advertisers a happy and prosperous year ahead.

We reminisce with you our readers, Bollywoods Top 10 of 2012 successes, failures and controversies. Read more on Page 10.

In his 24-year career in Indian cinema, Aamir Khan has gained countless accolades and honours. We chat to him about his recent success.

Read more on Page 14 about the prestigious Hello Hall of Fame Awards where Titans from all walks of society be it art, entertainment, business, sports and the humanities get together.

“PEOPLE” named Bollywood star  John Abraham  India’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ for 2012. He was picked for scoring the highest on his twin assets, an intelligent mind and for his incredibly hot body!

This month once again, Bollywood is rife with controversy and excitement. Ex-cricketer and renowned cricket commentator Rituy Ravi Shastri has decided to end 22 years of his marriage with Ritu and has apparently filed for divorce.

Another couple, Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapur also have their share of marital problems. It’s been

rumoured that Sanjay has been maintaining an extramarital affair.

Good news however is the Hollywood/Bollywood synergies that have been developing over the years. Singer Akon will be performing with SRK at weddings and it has been reported that he has been flooded with offers to perform at high-profile marriages.

Sonakshi Sinha chose to walk out of a lucrative endorsement deal rather than shedding her weight. She chose her curvaceous figure over a good endorsement deal. Now what could she have been thinking?

Socialite Paris Hilton seems to be in love with India after she made her debut last year when she launched her trendy bags with the regular Bollywood fanfare in Mumbai. Now she returned back to India with more in her kitty this time. Read more on Page 44.

This month we also visit the majestic and serene island of Mauritius. When reality subsides, the dream begins of an island between sky and sea, of a tropical garden arising from the blue emerald green waters of the lagoon. Discovering Mauritius and its people is like taking a journey into some of the most fascinating and refined ancestral traditions ever.

SAIndia will be launching its International Online Digital Platform in the near future to give you our reader easy access to your favourite Bollywood magazine. Follow us each month where we will keep you updated with new developments.

Hi Everyone,

HELLO!, India’s leading celebrity and luxury lifestyle magazine, and the RWITC came together to host the an-nual HELLO! Classic Cup Race at the Ma-halaxmi Race Course in Mumbai. The HELLO! Classic Cup is considered one of the most awaited events of the year. Well known for its high style quotient and entertainment value the HELLO! Classic Race is sought after not just by the crème de la crème of society but also by racing aficionados. And just like the last three years, this year too, it was a high-octane extravaganza as Mumbai’s stylish fashionistas glided in-to cheer and bet on their favourite horses. In this edition we also give you tips on how to dress up for the Derby.

The one time reigning beauty “Queen of Bollywood” is currently seeing a down-fall in her career. It’s not her marriage to be blamed; it’s her wrong decisions and attitude. She now finds the ground slip-ping beneath her feet. Her competitors Deepika and Katrina have raced past her in popularity and Box office stakes. SA-India investigates what went wrong with our cover Queen in our Cover feature.

“Fashion Police” from the United States seems to have had an influence on our celebrities at the the Filmfare Awards. Some celebs are beginning to take their designers for granted wearing attire that they think is fashionable, unfortu-nately this year’s Awards were abuzz with the best and worst dressed celebs!

Now, Turning a bride into a Goddess is what Neeta Lulla aimed at during her presentation of “The Bridal Goddess”

collection at the fifth Aamby Valley India Bridal Fashion Week. Creating a spell binding impact on the audience, Neeta brought in large doses of vintage charm that was utterly captivating. Divided into sections, Neeta took the audience on a stunning display of western and ethnic creations that reflected the gen-tle charm and creativity of the designer.

Candid and forthcoming, her attitude and looks have got her heaps of ad-mirers and followers. Having played a fashionable airhead in her debut film “Student Of The Year”, Alia has now completed a grueling, gut-wrenching physically and emotionally exhausting film with Ali. She’s what one wishes ev-ery celebrity should be i.e. carefree and relaxed. There’s no mincing of words with Alia and certainly no diplomacy. Maybe it’s because she’s all of 20 years. Or maybe she gets it from her father, Mahesh Bhatt?

Actress Preity Zinta is also reported to be furious over the rumours of her alleged financial distress that’s circulating in Bollywood. Some days ago, her friends expressed concern at the way the ac-tress was spending money. It seems she spends huge amounts of money on her-self and her friends, though her current projects are not working out very well.

A new story has surfaced in connection to Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne Khan’s separation. After the report of Arjun Rampal’s involvement in separating the golden couple of Bollywood, now Ka-reena Kapoor’s name has been dragged into the splitting controversy. It is said that apart from having an affair with ‘Kites’ actress Barbara Mori, the Greek hero of Bollywood also had a special feeling for Kareena.

Music director Pritam Chakraborty is the man behind some of the biggest chartbusters in Bollywood and has an impressive list of films to his credit like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Race and Dhoom. At the recent IIFA press meet he announced that he is in talks with several Nashville Country music singers and plans to collaborate with them at IIFA to be held in Tampa, USA. Until Month, enjoy...

Richa Chaddha

She wore an electric red dress at the event. It appeared as if Richa was thinking Filmfare to be happening in Spain instead of Mumbai. What’s with those frills girl?

Aditi Rao Hydari

No problem with the dress except that it is little ill-fit. Had Aditi carried the dress well, even her beaded husband would have created wonders for her. Better Luck next time lady!

Kajal Aggarwal

She wore a fully sequined outfit, but too skinny at the top. It looks even the actress was not-so-confident posing in it.

Kajol

No problem with the dress, but surely with Kajol’s choice of carrying an outfit like this at such a prestigious night. Plus, the hair-do. It looks as if no efforts have been put up by the actress in dressing up.

Sophie

Nice shade of pink but what did Sophie deliberately ruin the look by teaming green -golden earrings with the dress?

Nimrat Kaur

We have seen Nimrat Kaur in much more wonderful looks on the red carpet. We wonder what’s the reason behind choosing this saree for such an event!

Shilpa Shukla

Again a speechless blunder by B.A. Pass actress Shilpa Shukla. See, how can you wear such a highly sequined outfit with plain black shoes? The outfit has a very abrupt looking neck cut too.

Anjana Sukhani

This pink dress is making the actress look more bulky at the middle. Anjana has surely got a nice figure to show, why hide it then under such haphazard frills?

Prachi Desai

Something was terribly wrong with girls wearing high slits for the evening. Wearing a peach thigh high slit gown, Prachi Desai always looked on the verge of suffering a dress malfunction. The huge sash around her waist and matching golden clutch with open toed stilettos only worsened the getup.

Dia Mirza

Whoever said Bollywood maidens do not believe in experimenting should see Dia Mirza’s look for the awards night. She draped an off-white golden sari over black trousers and

blouse! She was running late for the event and draped it on the way. Sorry we do not have a better explanation than this to describe her fashion blunder. But come to think of it, she looks quite cool in the disheveled look.

Adhuna Akhtar

The best actor of the year, Farhan Akhtar, should really bail out his wife from her disastrous style sense. Wearing a golden and purple floor length Payal Khandwala creation that resembled a ghaghra, Adhuna looked more pathetic than stylish. And what is with the elongated black collar over the blouse? We wonder!

Divya Dutta

Another Divya Dutta fashion debacle – that’s what we’ll say. Again choosing to go with a multi-layered pink and purple Anarkali dress, the actor made a rather forgettable red carpet appearance.

Best dressed

Priyanka Chopra

Looking gorgeous in an Alexander McQueen peplum gown, she was the best dressed star of the evening. She flaunted her perfect figure in the black dress with a golden viscose leaf. With side-parted wavy hair and only dangling earrings used as accessories, she must have made the coveted Black Lady go green with envy.

Deepika Padukone

She was the star of the night – being the Best Actress awardee – she looked stunning in her Gaurav Gupta gown with side swept hair, the red lipstick and, of course, her million dollar smile.

Shruti Haasan

She never really fails to impress. No we are

not talking about her movies, but her fashion sense. She chose to wear an off-shoulder halter neck black dress to walk the red carpet. And she did a fairly good job. Teaming the Gauri and Nainika gown with golden earrings and a top bun completed her overall look.

Kalki Koechlin

Kalki chose to go play it safe by wearing a Sabyasachi Mukherjee creation. The finely embroidered black dress gave a very ethnic feel. And thank God she ditched the buns to leave her hair open which added to her oval face.

Huma Qureshi

The Dedh Ishqiya girl sported a Gauri and Nainika architect dress. Looking voluptuous in the blue dress, she gracefully walked the red carpet. Her side curled bangs with pink lipstick gave a subtle appearance.

Tamannaah

Gauri and Nainika found another loyalist in actor Tamannaah for the evening. In a different but effective high neck red dress, the South siren looked simply marvelous.

Karisma Kapoor

This Kapoor girl impresses onlookers each time with her unique sense of style. She wore an Anamika Khanna creation that looked like a mix of a sari and a gown and teamed it with a heavily embroidered jacket. It gave a very royal look to Karisma Kapoor.

Soha Ali Khan

In a Ken Ferns strapless gown, Soha Ali Khan walked hand in hand with her boyfriend Kunal Khemu. She looked every inch the fashionista at the ceremony.

Rejecting Ram LeelaEveryone is aware that Ram Leela was initially offered to Kareena, but she refused the film as she did not want to work with Ranveer Singh. She instead preferred to do Satyagrah and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, which was Karaen Johar’s film. She said in an interview that she rejected the film because she did not find it interesting. Deepika took up the film and it went on to become the biggest hit of the year. She was praised for this award winning performance. On the other hand, unfortunately both of Kareena’s films failed at the box office.

Making boisterous statementsKareena Kapoor’s attitude was very visible when she made a statement about refusing Ram Leela that other actresses have benefitted from her refusals. She also passed a boisterous comment that she had no count of the films that she had rejected. She never accepted her mistake and that’s one more reason that she has not been getting films. She also had no words of praise for Deepika who gave such a marvelous performance.

Walking out of Zoya’s filmZoya Akhtar wanted to make a film with brother sister duo, Kareena and Ranbir. But due to some reasons, known to Ranbir, he walked out of the film. Zoya then went on to sign Ranveer and then Kareena too quit the film. She thought that the film would not be the same without Ranbir and again Ranveer Singh is not someone whom she would like to work with. In this context, she forgot about Zoya’s credentials in movies....For Kareena, it might be Ram Leela part 2.

Past SuccessesKareena has been basking in the glory of past successes like Bodyguard, Ra One and 3 Idiots. But she was again the typical heroine to all the important heroes. They were all hero centric films, with the 3 Khans of Bollywood. Heroine was the only film that revolved around her, but once again did not do very well at the box office.

The year 2014The year 2014 seems to be promising for Kareena, with films like Gabbar, Singham 2 and Bombay Samurai. It seems that after Hrithik walked out of Shudhi, she has also opted out of the film and once again Karan Johar has approached Deepika for the role.

Wait and watch...

Kareena’s fallng career graph!

We are sure; everyone would be shocked at this statement. The one time reigning beauty queen of Bollywood is now seeing a downfall in her career. No, it’s not the marriage, which has created this phase, but her wrong decisions and attitude has led to it. She now finds the ground slipping beneath her feet. Her competitors Deepika and Katrina have raced past her in popularity and Box office stakes.

What led to her falling career?

Bhatt

Alia is a true Bhatt girl candid and forthcoming.

Her attitude and looks have got her heaps of admirers and followers. Having played a

Alia has now completed a grueling, gut-wrenching physically and emotionally exhausting film with Ali. She’s what one wishes every celebrity was – carefree and relaxed. Though there has been a surge of young actors over the past years, only a few have managed to make a mark. Alia is definitely one of them. That too, with just her debut film, Student Of The Year (SOTY). But she’s under no delusions. She knows she has a long way to go and is willing to work her ‘ass off ’! Currently, she’s got two big films in her kitty. Imtiaz Ali’s Highway and Karan Johar’s 2 States. Nothing makes her happier than this...

Bhatt

Alia is a true Bhatt girl candid and forthcoming.

Her attitude and looks have got her heaps of admirers and followers. Having played a

fashionable airhead in her debut film “Student Of The Year”,

After a fashionable debut with SOTY, now you are doing a physically and emotionally exhausting movie, Highway?

It was very difficult, but it helped me to connect with myself. I have done everything in this film, from sleeping under a tree to eating on the road. I realise other actors probably come to something like Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Highway’ after maybe six to seven films behind them. So I am really proud of this achievement at such a young age. Here I give entire credit to director Imtiaz Ali who walked me through it. It was an amazing experience. He was open to my suggestions. We even discovered a few scenes together.

How did you bag this role?

Even I was shocked when Imtiaz offered me this role. I told him that I have no training in acting, but that was what he wanted. He wanted someone who wasn’t trained so that the personality could be moulded in the way he wanted.

Has this movie helped you evolve as an actor?

Of course, ‘Highway’ has helped me to evolve as a person and an actor. I was a very pampered child and was kept in a very closed protective and a good environment. I’ve led a simple life. I’d go from home to school and from school to home. After which I walked on to the sets of SOTY. I never studied abroad or went on long trips with my friends, etc... So shooting for Highway was that journey for me where I discovered new things about myself, my likes, my dislikes... It was a life-changing experience. During the film, I discovered the real Alia Bhatt. With this movie I felt so connected with the surroundings and nature. It was both physically and emotionally challenging. The role made me push boundaries within myself, which I didn’t know existed. Until you push yourself, you don’t know how tough you are. By the end of the shooting, I was comfortable sitting on the road and eating, and sleeping under a tree. By the end of the film, I didn’t miss my comfortable bed at home.

At such a young age, when other girls enjoy their life, you are busy working with 2 back to back films?

“Yes, I guess my life has changed. I am suddenly working hard. To be honest, I miss spending time with my family and friends. But now after a year of shooting I am trying to again spend as much time as possible with my family and friends. But I am glad that I am getting good films. Acting is my passion. At the end of it I love what I am doing.

You grew up as Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter. Did you lead a privileged childhood?

No. I didn’t. I was never a brat. I had a rather grounded and modest upbringing. I didn’t get the pleasures that people assume I would’ve got because I am Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter. I led a normal life. And I am happy I did. I bought my first designer item myself, after I made enough money to buy it.

Are you closer to your mother (actor Soni Razdan) or father?

I’m closer to my mom because she’s always taking care of me, doing things for me, worrying about my diet, etc. Even when I was growing up, she was the one who would come to school and stuff. My dad was always busy. But I’m the closest to my sister Shaheen.

Do you remember visiting movie sets as a child?

Hardly, I would only go to movie sets to eat food. That was the main motive in my life at that point. Until I started shooting for my first film (SOTY), I didn’t know how movies were made

You are also doing 2 States, where you play the role of a South Indian girl. How difficult was it to get the nuances right?

I play a modern South Indian girl in the film. She doesn’t speak like a typical South Indian except when she’s talking to her parents. My role isn’t like Deepika Padukone’s in Chennai Express. But I have a lot of fun speaking in Tamil though I don’t know what the hell I’m saying. I just mug it up.

You are working with your close friend Arjun Kapoor in 2 States, how is the experience with him?

He is simply fun to work with. He only looks serious, but he is very humorous. I had seen his debut film Ishqzaade and his confidence level blew me away. He comes across as boring, arrogant and cold because of his face. I feel bad for him because that’s how his face is. His eyes are droopy and he has a droopy mouth. I call him the grumpy cat. But, he is an amazing person. He’s funny, intelligent and warm. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve met. I love his sense of humour, which I never knew existed. I believe in the phrase ‘do not judge a book by its cover’ because Arjun is nothing like what he comes across as. What saves him though is his killer smile.

If you ever get a chance will you work with the Khans?

If it’s possible, then yes. Nowadays, there’s a lot of scope for good scripts. So if I get one, I’d love to do it.

Are you open to any kind of films?

I want to do masala films, offbeat movies, serious films... I want to do them all.

Do you see yourself doing a Bhatt movie ever?

Of course, whenever the right film and right opportunity comes across, I’d love to do it.

But Bhatt movies are known to be bold and provocative. Are you okay with that?

That’s not entirely true. Aashiqui 2 was not like that. In any case, there’s nothing wrong in bold and sexy. Everyone is doing it today. People are voicing their opinions and ideas strongly through cinema and that’s a good thing.

You’ve worked in a two-hero project. Would you be open to doing a two heroine film?

Of course, why not? Obviously, it depends on the script, the role and how I relate to the character. But it’s not

like I won’t do the f i l m

because, ‘Iska role bada hai aur mera chota hai’. If I like it, I’ll do it.

Do you believe in competition?

I feel someone is a competition, if she has a better body than me. Though not negatively, but I do get jealous of people who have great bodies and I take them as my competition. As far as the industry is concerned, it’s a big market and everyone has something or the other in their kitty. So there is no question of competition.

What’s your style mantra?

I do not have any style mantra. I still have to know what suits me the best. Right now I feel very comfortable with my jeans and tee. I have not made a niche for myself as far as styling is concerned. So you are single?

Yes, I am. Being in a relationship is not a priority for me at this point. I just don’t have enough time for one. I’d probably want to be with someone a year down the line. But currently, I am happy with the way things are. I’ve had my share of fun. So I’d rather focus on my work right now.

Wellness in every home through herbal healthcare.

(ADHD)

Deficit HyperactivityDisorder

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a complex mental health disorder that can affect a child’s success in school and with interpersonal relationships. Unfortunate-ly, the symptoms of ADHD do vary and are

sometimes difficult to recognize. Here are seven common signs that may indicate ADHD.

Please note: many of the symptoms are within the normal range for children to experience. A diagnosis of ADHD is made by evaluating the child under several crite-ria. Listed below are 7 most common signs or symptoms.

The Me Me syndrome, a common sign of ADHD is an inability to recognize other people’s needs and desires. A child with ADHD may interrupt other people when they are talking and may have trouble waiting their turn for things like classroom activities and when playing games with other children.

Emotional Turmoil, a child with ADHD may have difficulty keeping emotions both good and bad in check. They may have outbursts of anger at inappropriate times.

Fidget and Squirm, you may often find yourself muttering, “It’s like the kid’s got an engine that’s always running.” Children with ADHD often can’t sit still. They may try to get up and run around or, when forced to sit, constantly fidget or squirm in their chair.

Unfinished task, a child with ADHD may show interest in lots of different thing but may have problems seeing them through to the end. Often, a child with ADHD will start a project, chore, or homework but leave it unfinished as they simply move on to the next thing that catches their interest.

Lack of Focus, frustratingly, a child with ADHD may have trouble paying attention even when being spoken to directly. They’ll say they heard you, but when asked to repeat back what you just said; they will have no idea what it was.

Careless Mistakes, it’s important to remember that children with ADHD aren’t any less intelligent than other

children. The problem is that they often have trouble fol-lowing instructions that require planning and executing a plan, which leads to careless mistakes.

Day Dreamer, children with ADHD are typically portrayed as rambunctious and loud, but that’s not always the case. Another possible sign of ADHD is being quieter and less involved than the other kids. A child with ADHD may stare into space, as if dreaming, and ignore what’s going on around him or her.

It’s important to remember that all children are going to exhibit some of these behaviours some of the time. Kids will be kids, after all. But if your child regularly displays signs of ADHD– especially if the behaviour is affecting his or her success in school and leading to negative interac-tion with peers – you should start thinking about the next step. All is not doom and gloom there are Holistic way parents can turn to, one such way is by using

Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi) maintains cogni-tive function. Well known for its memory en-hancer effect, the herb enhances memory and learning. It is also known to calm restlessness and is used to treat several mental disorders. Bacopa assists in heightening mental acu-ity and supports the physiological processes involved in relaxation

Centella asiatic (Gotu Kola) is famous for supporting vein structure thereby improving memory and attention through support of the brain’s micro-capillaries by increasing circula-tion.

Withania Somnifera (Winter Cherry /Ash-wagandha) is used as a mood stabilizer in clinical conditions of anxiety and depression .Ashwagandha improves the body’s ability to maintain physical effort and helps the body adapt to various types of stress The herb also reduces oxidative stress, which can cause mental fatigue.

How to dress up for Derby

Having a bit of fun is an essential part of any race day and if you’ve decided to go with a slightly ec-centric twist to your look then the Avant-Garde award is the section for you. Although this may seem a more ‘fun’ section it is still important to co-ordinate your entire outfit top to toe. Trying to influ-ence the judges with an equestrian theme won’t go astray either, as I’m sure you’ll agree – this is the only place you could ever wear this little number!

When planning your outfit don’t forget your most important accessory: your man. It’s not all about you – if you can, make his clothing work as the perfect foil to set off your outfit and who knows? You may end up with both of you celebrating a photo finish!

Expert opinion by Delna Poonawala

Personally, I like to dress appropriately for a race day. If it’s a smaller race, then a smart blouse and trousers, a nice pair of sunglasses (metallic is the current fashion), a perfect pair of heels and the right amount of accessories are what I choose. Sometimes, I like to add a ‘horsey’ touch with, for example, a horse bit belt, a horse shoe buckle

(Gucci makes some great accessories incorporat-ing horse elements) or boots. On a larger race day like The Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million or a derby, I like to wear an elegant dress with a fas-cinator or a hat.

If your dress is simple, you have the luxury to opt for more exotic headgear. A fussy dress must be paired with a simple hat or fascinator. It should, in some way, be co-ordinated with the colour of your dress. I normally get my hats from London, because in summer, London is full of hats for Ascot and Epsom races. Yohan and I have fond memo-ries of Epsom in England, where I was asked to participate in their best dressed competition and taken into the paddock for the main race, which was an exciting experience. The Epsom races are attended by the Queen of England and the younger royals, like Prince William, Duchess Kate and Prince Harry, who, we were lucky enough to see outside our box landing at close quarters! The ladies at the Epsom races are always well turned out, and it is a given that they be accessorised with an open ‘substantial fascinator’ or a hat. In Mum-bai, my sister in-law Delna Poonawalla, a fashion designer, sources interesting hats and fascinators and I’m always lucky to find something from her too!

In India, the concept of dressing for a race is slowly picking up and young women are finding the confi-dence to wear hats and fascinators. Depending on how comfortable you are, you can keep it as sim-ple or as crazy as you’re comfortable with to make your own style statement. My mother in-law Beh-roze Poonawalla has promoted race day dressing ever since The Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million began. People wait with excitement, as we give away prizes for the best dressed lady and gentle-man. Where men are concerned, a smart suit, co-lourful tie and the perfect sunglasses complete the look. One can also go for a light linen suit (in beige or grey). The key is to be comfortable in whatever you wear and keep in mind that the races are day events, so no dressing in evening wear. You can chose light or bright colours and be elegant, and quirky at the same time.

So, this Sunday, at the races, it is the perfect op-portunity to look your best and have a great fun-filled afternoon with your family or friends!

As summer approached in Mumbai and the dust covers were taken off the ACs, it was discov-ered that no less than 11 split air conditioners had gone missing and that too about two months ago without anybody being the wiser. The theft happened in the home production of Saif Ali Khan named Illuminati films located on Khar Road. It is really rather funny that the thieves walked away with 11 ACs without anybody noticing the missing items for a couple of months. It was only on recently that the manager of the production house, Nazia Ali Khan approached Saif to inform him of the theft and a FIR was lodged in the Khar police station. The theft reportedly occurred when the office was undergoing a renovation. All the goods were shifted to a go-down located in the basement of the residence of Saif. Once the renovations were completed, the goods were moved back. It is suspected that the theft occurred at the time of the movement. Fortunately, the police had proved to be more sharp eyed than either the Bullett Raja actor or his production house manager. They interviewed all the employees and finally zeroed in on two of them. An officer of the Khar police station said, “We picked up the employees on the same day and began interrogating them one by one. After questioning many of them, we zeroed in on two. And upon their sustained interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime.” The two were identified as Shubhash Sahu and Shamin Solanki. Both had been working for Illuminati Films for the last five years. Sahu lives in Grant Road while Solanki lives in Juhu. The two confessed to committing the crime as they were facing very difficult times financially. One of them needed the money to fund the wedding of his younger sister. Inspector C. D. Mello said, “The accused have been charged under sections 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. They were appeared in the Ban-dra metropolitan magistrate court and were remanded in police custody. We are yet to make a recovery of the stolen items. Investigations are ongoing to find out who bought the ACs.” However, the facts are, that since the ACs were sold off almost two months ago, it is now very difficult to trace the buyers.

Despite a hectic schedule, dressed in black Deepika went to support Ranveer’s ‘Gunday’ while he was spotted with close friend Ayan Mukherjee. Deepika shares a close bond with him and at no cost she affords to miss out the D-day of the actor. She bagged the best actor award in almost all the award ceremonies this year for ‘Ram Leela’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ but Ranveer missed out an award even though he performed brilliantly in ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela-Ram Leela’. Though the actor missed out an award, he did not felt disheartened and fully cheered for Deepika. On one hand, Deepika’s bonding with Ranveer is growing stronger with every passing day while on the other hand, Ranbir is distancing himself from Katrina. Ranbir has been making a solo appearance in few recently held events. He arrived alone at Karan Johar’s dinner party and also came minus Katrina at Kiran Rao’s private bash. It is speculated that the couple had a fall out dur-ing their New Year trip to the USA. They had a fight on the issue of commitment and following which Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif returned from the trip separately. It is also heard that Ki-ran Rao tried to play peacemaker between the duo but it is not yet known whether she has been successful in her attempt or not. Valen-tine’s day Deepika spent with her alleged boy-friend Ranveer while Ranbir is with Katrina. Kat is currently shooting with Hrithik Roshan in Shimla for ‘Bang Bang’.

PREiTy ZiNTA dENiES bEiNG iN FiNANCiAl TROUblE

Actress Preity Zinta is reported to be furious over the rumours of her alleged financial dis-tress that’s circulating in Bollywood. Some days ago, her friends expressed concern at the way the actress was spending money. It seems she spends huge amounts of mon-ey on herself and her friends, though her current projects are not working out very well. One particularly concerned friend alleged, “She made the mistake of abandoning her career when she was with Ness Wadia. So many producers called her but she was not interested in tak-ing their calls, leave alone reading the scripts they were offering. All she wanted was Ness…” These rumours gained strength when it was reported that scriptwriter Abbas Tyrewala had filed a case against Priety when her check for Rs. 18.9 lakhs bounced. It was supposed to have been a payment for the script of the film Ishq in Paris which unfortunately tanked at the box office. One report said, “Film writer Abbas Tyrewala has a case against Preity for non-payment of dues. However, the Bombay High Court quashed the non-bailable warrant against the actress, providing her relief in the same matter.” Strong rumours surfaced that Priety had moved out of her luxurious apartment in Quantum Park, Union Park, Khar, and Mumbai and asked her friends to look for a tenant for this apartment. However, the actress has vehemently denied these rumours. “Where did this come from? I am amazed at how off-the-mark the report is. It is a thousand percent untrue,” the 39 year old actress proclaimed. “By the grace of God, I’m most comfortably able to look after myself financially. It is not only untrue it’s extremely irritating to read such fabrications about oneself.” Preity frankly did not know whether to be amused or insulted by the rumours. “There is so much drama in that story. Bechari (poor) Preity, she has to vacate her Mahal (palace) and live in a Jhopdi (shanty) be-cause the cruel creditors are breaking down her door. I wish people would look for their afternoon soap opera scripts somewhere else. There is no such drama happening in my life,” she said. The situation was rendered even more embarrassing when the friends of the actress started making discreet enquiries into her financial status. “I am not going bankrupt, guys. If anything, I see a bankruptcy of another kind in desperate news reports like these,” said Preity.

FEEliNGS FOR SAlmAN KHAN

Katrina Kaif might have part ways from Bol-lywood hunk Salman Khan but she still holds a strong feeling for her ex-boyfriend. As we all know Salman Khan is over protective and over possessive about the women present in his life, whether she is his sisters, his female co-stars, his colleagues, his female friends or his ex-flames. He still cares for Katrina Kaif even the latter ditched him. At a recently held award function, Salman Khan mimicked Karan Johar and grilled him the way Karan used to do his guests at his chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’. When Sallu asked the ace filmmaker cum host to rate Ka-trina on the honesty meter, Karan rated her low. Not so happy Salman, insisted the filmmaker on having a higher rating for Katrina on the me-ter. And days after the event, when Katrina was asked to comment on Salman’s stance, she said, “We should always respect what Salman says.” Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif were a couple at one point in time, but Kat broke the relationship to establish a new relationship with Ranbir Ka-poor. Salman shaped Katrina’s career and the superstar was keen to tie the knot with the ac-tress but the diva was not eager to get hitched at the peak of her career and they broke up on the issue of marriage.

biG b’S NiECE NAiNA bACHCHAN

Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor has been engaged to Ajitabh Bachchan and Ramola Bachchan’s daughter Naina Bachchan. Naina is megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s niece. Kunal and Naina were dating for the past two years and the duo is contemplating marriage. The couple got engaged quietly in a pri-vate ceremony. Naina is an investment banker and recently she has shifted her base from Delhi to Mumbai to stay close to Kunal. Kunal and Naina met through a common friend and gradu-ally love blossomed between them. Ku-nal said, “Naina and I are together, and very happy, and we intend to keep it that way.” When Kunal was shooting in London, Naina was also in London and dropped in to meet Kunal after the shoot. “Kunal is shooting in London for the An-urag Kashyap-produced comedy Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. Naina, who has lived in London, drops in at Kunal’s hotel almost daily. The two have been spotted visiting hotspots in and around the city,” a source in the film unit said. Naina and Kunal’s relationship surfaced when the couple was spotted at a Diwali party thrown by Amitabh Bachchan last year.

SHAHid KAPOOR HiTS bACK AT EX-FlAmE KAREENAShahid Kapoor dated few Bollywood actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Vidya Balan in the past but his relationship with Kareena was long standing till they broke up in 2008 after dating for five long years. Sha-hid Kapoor opens his heart about his past af-fairs on the chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’ and quipped how he is scared dating actresses now. He said that those were bad memories and he is not interested to remember it. When Karan Johar asked Shahid whom he wants to date, the hunk promptly replied “not an actress…. I am so done with that. I am a little scared of dat-ing an actress for sure”. To a query by Karan on what he has learnt from dating actresses, Shahid says, “Do not date them.” Shahid’s name was also linked with actresses like Nar-gis Fakhri, Bipasha Basu, Anushka Sharma and Huma Qureshi as well. Shahid was present with his ‘R.Rajkumar’ co-star Sonakshi Sinha. Kareena on the same couch lashed out at Sonakshi Sinha by saying she was more like a housewife but defending Sona, Shahid said that he wished if there are more in the industry like Sonakshi Sinha. Shahid also spoke about Aditya Chopra and missing out on a film like ‘Shudh Desi Romance’ due to date issues and the role eventually went to Sushant Singh Ra-jput. “The film (‘Shudh Desi Romance’) kept getting delayed and Maneesh Sharma (director) kept saying he is not ready to start and he felt it needed more time. I was waiting for six months. And I felt like, things are just not going to start and I had two other films which were lined up. Then I had to say I can’t wait any further and they were sure they were not ready,” Shahid said. “I have not caught up with Adi ever since that. He messaged me a few days back and said he really liked my work in ‘R..Rajkumar’ which was very kind of him,” he said.

UNdER THE KNiFE The facial appearance of the perky actress Anushka Sharma has undergone several changes since her debut in Rab ne bana di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The appear-ance of her lips have changed considerably be-tween her films Badmaash company and Matru ki bijli ki mondola while her appearance in an award function in 2012 further re-enforced the rumors that she had got a lip job. Fans were eagerly waiting for her appearance in the chit chat show Koffee with Karan where she ap-peared with director Anurag Kashyap and talk-ed about her upcoming film, Bombay Velvet. The episode aired on a Sunday night and no-body could have helped noticing the rather odd appearance of her mouth around the lips. Her fans took to twitter to comment on the altered appearance. She said “Lately there had been a lot of talk about me in this particular episode of Koffee with Karan regarding my lips. I am here to just convey what I have to say regard-ing the same. I am talking about it only because this story has taken a scary direction and things have been ‘blown out of proportion’ (pun intend-ed;). For a short while now I have been using a temporary lip enhancing tool and that along with make-up techniques (I have learnt over the years) is the reason why there might be a change in the appearance of my lips. Having stated this fact let me very vehemently assure everyone that I have by no means gone ‘under the knife ‘ or done any kind of ‘plastic surgery’ or undergone any intrusive procedure. This was my decision and was done for the sake of my look in my upcoming film Bombay Velvet, a period drama where I play a jazz singer in the 1960’s - 70’s.”

AKSHAy KUmAR REVEAlS A SECRET AbOUT HiS WiFE TWiNKlE

The latest episode of the most interesting chat show, ‘Koffee with Karan’ sees none other than the stunt king of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar and the episode will see Akki sans wife Twinkle Khanna. Though Twinkle will not make her presence on the show, Akki and Karan Johar will talk about her extensively. Akshay reveals some interesting secrets about his wife. Akshay said that Twinkle is a very straight forward person and reveals to Karan Johar why she decided not to come to his show. “She said: ‘I can’t keep my mouth shut. I’ll talk nonsense and then I’ll regret it later and my husband will fire me,” said Karan Johar sharing Twinkle Khanna’s reason for not accompany-ing her actor husband on the talk show. “My wife is like that. I always tell her be diplomatic but she is like that… what is white is white and what is black is black for her,” explained Akshay Kumar. “There’s no filter in her mind. What enters in her mind comes out,” he added further. Talking about his difference from wife Twinkle, Akshay Kumar said, “We keep on discovering new things about each other because we’re so different. We’re poles apart. She’s this side, I’m completely that side”, he quipped. On being asked as to why it took him so long to appear on the chat show, Askhay replied seriously, “When we come for your show, you ask all these kinds of very controversial questions. So nobody wants to be grilled and nobody wants to get into any-body’s bad books. And I don’t want to answer anything stupid that it hurts somebody’s feelings.” The actor frankly said that he would rather love to meet Karan socially rather than coming to his show and get involved in any sort of controversy. “It is terrible. I’m telling you Karan… I’m coming on your show and telling you that it is very bad to do that, to get into controversies. Talk about someone … Why?” he asked a stunned Karan. Karan Johar also quizzed Akshay Kumar on his well-known habit of waking up at 5:00 am every day. “Mornings we’re supposed to get up and work. I don’t know where you come from to say that you don’t work,” he said to Karan Johar. Talking about the kind of films he is doing, Akshay said, “I’m happy with what I’ve got. I’m not fighting anything. But yes, I want to keep on going… everyday when I listen to scripts, I’m looking for that script if I can get something to prove…like a ‘Special 26? I was very happy with it. Even a script like ‘Oh My God!’.”

EmRAAN HASHmi CAllS AiSHWARyA RAi ‘PlASTiC’

The latest episode of the popular chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’ will see the uncle-nephew duo Mahesh Bhatt and Emraan Hash-mi. The chatting over hot coffee turned very interesting when Em-raan and Mahesh Bhatt passed some hilarious comment about their industry friends. The chat room burst into laughter when Emraan Hashmi called Aishwarya Rai Bachchan a ‘plastic’ in the rapid fire round and Aamir Khan a ‘boring actor’. If Emraan had called Ash a ‘plastic’ and Aamir a ‘boring actor’ than Mahesh Bhatt called Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kajol an overrated di-rector and actor. In the past few episodes, we have seen many celebrities graced the couch and made controversial and funny remarks about their contemporaries and close ones as well. Kareena Kapoor confirmed Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s re-lationship by “tagging” later her “future sister-in-law”. Karan Jo-har’s chat show also created differences amongst the stars. The show played a major role in spoiling Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s relationship, Rishi Kapoor and Deepika’s relationship, Katrina-Deepika, Kareena-Sonakshi, Priyanka-Kareena and a few more. We really hope that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aamir Khan really takes Emraan Hashmi’s funny comment in a positive way.

KAREENA KAPOOR bEHiNd HRiTHiK-SUZANNE’S SPliT?

A new story has been surfaced in connection to Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne Khan’s separation. After the report of Arjun Rampal’s involve-ment in separating the golden couple of Bollywood, now Kareena Ka-poor’s name has been dragged into the whole splitting controversy. It is said that apart from having an affair with ‘Kites’ actress Barbara Mori, the Greek hero of Bollywood also had a special feeling for Ka-reena. Hrithik Roshan’s walking out of the prestigious project of Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddhi’ cemented the report that Hrithik was also romanti-cally linked up with Bebo. When Arjun’s name was involved in the case, the actor issued a statement in the media where he categorically denied being involved in Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne’s separation. It is not yet known whether Kareena will follow Arjun’s way and issue a statement to decline her involvement in the case or will she take a differ-ent stance? In the past, Kareena and Hrithik starred in movies like ‘Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon’, ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge!’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ and ‘Yaadein’. Their chemistry was highly liked by the audience and they are also looking forward to working together in ‘Shuddhi’ after several years but the superhero backed out due to health issues and personal crisis. Suzanne and Hrithik called it a quit after 13 years of marriage. Suzanne moved out of Hrithik’s house with their two children, Hrehaan and Hridhaan. After separation, both of them moved on in life. Hrithik occasionally meets his two children, spends time with them. He has resumed the shooting of ‘Bang Bang’ after a break. He is currently shooting in Shimla with Katrina Kaif. Suzanne has rented a residence and working on her new launched designer store.

KAPil SHARmA Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma had a fall out with superstar Salman Khan during a Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). Kapil Sharma who grabbed popularity with the show, ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ threw tantrums at the event which miffed superstar Salman Khan and his brother Sohail Khan who is the co-owner of Mumbai Heroes. Salman Khan who recently appeared on Kapil’s show to promote his upcoming film, ‘Jai Ho’ with So-hail Khan and actress Daisy Shah were not highly impressed with Kapil’s late arrival. The comedian not only arrived late for the rehearsal but also quit the show at the last moment. Kapil who shares a great bond with the Khan Brothers is trying his level best to mend the damage but all his efforts ended in smoke as neither Salman nor Sohail were in a mood to forgive Kapil for his unexpected behavior. They were not even ready to hear his explanation. By kicking CCL, Kapil Sharma has not only lost Salman Khan’s friendship but 1.25 crore as well. He has charged a hefty amount of 1.25 crore to host the special session of the CCL but walked away empty handed due to his starry tantrums. A leading news website quoted one of the CCL 4 organizers as saying, “He was to reach the stadium at noon to rehearse with Mandira. But he reached a good two hours late (2pm), leaving no time for the rehearsal.” According to a CCL official, “Besides reaching the venue late, Kapil’s team started demanding last min-ute changes to the script and he was adamant on being given a vanity van. When we offered him an AC room, he refused as the commentary box was on the other side and he said he could not walk all the way.”

RANViR-KONKONA PATCH-UP, liViNG TOGETHER AGAiN

Rubbishing the speculation of their troubled marriage and separation, Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey took to twitter to declare that both he and Konkana are very much together and the media speculation about their split is totally baseless.”Marriage is not always peaceful... there is no need to write about every fight that I have with my wife. That is not fair. They (media) don’t have time to write about my work but write about this,” Ranvir told PTI in an interview. “We are together, we have a child, we moved into a new house. The press is writing parallel narrative about my life, especially my married life and nothing about my work. That’s media for you,” he said. It was reported earlier that Ranvir and Konkona headed for splitville and Konkana had moved out of Ranvir’s house with son Haroon. Lots has been written and talked about the married couple and their troubled marriage but Ranvir does not feel the need for any clarification. “I am not that dumb (to clarify). More than me feeling disappointed they should feel ashamed of writing lies,” he said. Meanwhile, he is participating in adventure-action reality show ‘Kha-tron Ke Khiladi’, to be hosted by Rohit Shetty. Ranvir is thrilled to take part on the show. “When I turned 40 last year, I had promised myself that I will go for an adventure holiday. With Rohit Shetty coming as host for this show, I will get an opportunity to tell filmmakers that I want to do this kind of work (action),” for a show like this there is no concept of body doubles, also no face replacement technology. While in films, they get stunt men to do action and put a stars face. This show is a challenge to check out how my body and mind react at this age to a pressurized situation.” Ranvir says he is scared of water, heights, fire, failure, etc. Even his family has asked him not to participate in the show. “My family kept telling me that there is no need to do it. They were worried. But I am treating this as a promise which I had made to myself of going on an adventure holiday and do something thrilling,” he said. For ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, Ranvir will be going to South Africa with the other 12 contestants.

Satyendra Singh is a Bhojpuri actor and producer. He was once an aide of Abu Salem. In a shocking incident, Satyendra has blamed Daisy Shah, who raised to fame post her role opposite Salman Khan in ‘Jai Ho’, for an ‘attempt to murder’. Satyendra Singh has filed an FIR in a police station in Utter Pradesh. In his statement, Satyendra has alleged Daisy Shah and 20 other people for plotting a scheme to murder him through a car accident. The other 20 people include choreographer Ganesh Acharya, director V K Singh and Actor Rajneish Duggal among others. According to the informa-tion received from the police, a few ago Satyendra met with an accident. It was whist he was traveling in a car. Satyendra was badly hurt. The ac-cident was declared as a mere accident. But now after a few months, Satyendra allegates that it was a well plotted scheme to murder him. He has mentioned the names of all 21 people and has blamed them for an ‘at-tempt to murder’ him. The 21 people Satyendra has mentioned are part of a mov-ie crew called ‘Soda’. The case was filed in Mainpuri district of Utter Pradesh. Satyendra is also the president of dissolved political party, Rashtrawadi Sama-jwadi Party. According to Satyendra he was removed from the movie ‘Soda’. He says, “I was working on a film called ‘Soda’, where Daisy was playing the lead with me and Ganesh was choreographing the song. I had written the script for it. However, within two days of the film’s shoot at Kamalistan studio, the crew tried to throw me out of the project. I was told that Daisy wanted to work with a known star and wanted me out.” About the accident Satyendra says, “I met with an accident in December. Initially, I thought it was a minor accident but later on, I realised that the person in the car was trying to overtake me and push me from the bridge.” When Ganesh Acharya was asked about it, he said, “I am not aware of such a person or a complaint.” Daisy said that she has noth-ing to do with the movie ‘Soda’ as she had just shot a song for the movie. She said, “I shot this song around 16 months ago and I have moved on since then. I have nothing to do with the film’s cast and crew now.”

AJAy dEVGAN REPlACES SAlmAN KHAN

AS ‘biGG bOSS 8’ HOST The macho superstar of Bollywood, Salman Khan has success-fully hosted several seasons of the wildly popular yet controver-sial game show Bigg Boss. However, the star was reported to be annoyed with the responses he got from the social network sites during the last season – Bigg boss 7. Several blogs accused the actor of undue favoritism and partiality for certain contestants. It was mainly aimed at his behavior and the advantages that he gave to Tanisha Mukherjee. The runner up was sister in law to Ajay Devgan who is reputed to enjoy a very good rapport with Salman. It was reported that Ajay and Kajol were not happy with Tanisha for entering the show. When she was finally defeated by Gauhar Khan, the rumors died a natural death. However, Salman was disgusted with the criticisms that poured from the social me-dia sites and reportedly decided not to host the next season of the show. Several names were floating around as the host with Ran-beer Kapoor and Ranvir Singh emerging as strong contenders. However, it has now been confirmed that the producers of the show have approached Ajay Devgan to host Bigg Boss 8. The actor is not ready to commit to the project. When asked whether he wanted to play the host to the popular show, Ajay replied, “I re-ally don’t know. I cannot comment on that - maybe I will or maybe not. I am not sure.” “Salman does it so well... he is watchable. I don’t know if I can pull it off like Salman. I have not seen all the episodes, but a little bit here and there,” he said. In addition to working together in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Lon-don Dreams, Salman also appeared in a cameo in Ajay Devgan starrer Son of Sardar and the two are known to be good friends. “I don’t believe that rivals cannot be friends. All of us are friends, most of us at least. Salman, Sanjay Dutt, and I are very close. Earlier, we used to meet on each other’s sets. Now it’s become more professional, but we have a great rapport. Whenever we need each other, we stand for each other,” added Ajay. It remains to be seen whether Ajay finally accepts the anchor position and how the faithful fans of the show will react to having Salman re-placed by Ajay.

biG b STOPPEd ENdORSiNG PEPSi AFTER iT WAS CAllEd ‘POiSON’

Amitabh Bachchan is urging celebrities to do a due diligence before en-dorsing brands. He claims to have stopped endorsing Pepsi after a little girl asked him why he endorsed a product her teacher labeled as poison. Referring to this as a wake-up call, Bachchan narrated the incident which happened during an event in a school in Jaipur. The girl had confront-ed him with this question and he confessed that he had no reply at that time. What struck him was the attitude of the people towards Pepsi. ‘...So I stopped endorsing Pepsi’, said Amitabh while addressing the audi-ence at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, which comprised of IIM – A students, faculty members and officials of Gujarat Tourism. Bachchan promotes the brand – Gujarat Tourism. Amitabh Bachchan claims to be doing the due diligence ever since, before endorsing any prod-uct, saying, ‘I look into it... I meet the client and ask them about it... I don’t endorse tobacco or alcohol because I don’t have them... then why should I endorse them?’ He added, ‘I tell this to my son Adhishek and to daughter-in-law Aishwarya also... if you have to endorse a product then you have to conduct your life in such a manner that it does not affect others lives.’ This whole comment stemmed from a question asked by an IIM-A student during the interactive session as to how he decided on brands before endorsing them. Chandra Bhushan, deputy director general of Environment Think-Tank Centre for Science and Environment, told the newspaper Economic Times that Bachchan’s comments should serve as an example for other ce-lebrities who endorse brands that are unhealthy and make children obese. When PepsiCo, owner of Pepsi, was asked about their views on the actor’s comments, a spokesperson refused to comment. As cola brands are the biggest spenders in the advertising markets, associating oneself with them is instant recognition in B-Town. Actors and celebrities known for endors-ing these brands are Ranbir Kapoor, M S Dhoni, Deepika Padukone, Sa-chin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and many more. Although Bachchan’s comment has been applauded by many, some feel he should use some discretion. According to Harish Bijoor, social commentator and brand consultant, Bachchan should have been more careful before airing such views. He said, ‘After endorsing a brand for so many years, he cannot de-endorse it. Any brand endorsement deal by a celebrity is an informed choice. They cannot be repenting it at a later stage.’

Centre: NEETA LULLA with the Show Stopper

Turning a bride into a Goddess is what Neeta Lulla aimed at during her pre-sentation of “The Bridal Goddess” collection at the fifth Aamby Valley In-

dia Bridal Fashion Week. Creating a spell bind-ing impact on the audience, Neeta brought in large doses of vintage charm that was utterly captivating.

Rows of bronze paper origami birds swayed gently from the ceiling over the ramp, which was covered in misty cloudy brown visions. Sitting at the head of the ramp was a young nubile male “Angel” that solefully played a me-lodious tune on the violin. From the audience five elegant “Goddesses” floated gracefully on to the ramp in fluid net creations with deli-cately shimmering glitter.

Divided into sections, Neeta took the audi-ence on a stunning display of western and eth-nic creations that reflected the gentle charm and creativity of the designer. Putting a dis-tinct emphasis on clumps of pretty roses for long white net skirts, lean tunics, tulle covers, gowns with sexy fish trails, Neeta gave the

women in the audience a feel of beauty for their bridal wardrobe.

Satin drapes gave gowns an intriguing look, while slim long skirts, pre-stitched saris, gilets with appliqués and will-power pink sari blouse combos worked beautifully for the bridal fes-tivities.

The sari section had long sleeved sharply cut jackets, lace edged beauties wound around the models, trench coats over belted lace saris and a ruffled blouse/sari/churidars trio.

An assortment of lehengas, cholis and dupat-tas; the flared skirts, tiny cholis, cutwork du-pattas, bustiers, slim sheaths over churidars and an unconventional navy long sleeved jacket matched with an orange net lehenga revealed some strong style statements.

Bringing in the Indian Kanjeevarm sari weave for opulent lehengas, blouses and Anarkalis section, Neeta matched some with bustiers, while others were worn with pearl encrusted belts or net panelled capes over micro cholis.

Neeta’s embroidery techniques were varied as she brought in appliqués, 3D work, sequins, crystals, Indian traditional weaves on tulle saris and resham embellishments. Detailing played a major role with dazzle and glitter making a constant appearance on the gar-ments.

Adding drama with an old world touch, the couture creations had an ethereal feel that would gladden the hearts of the 21st century bride.

The perfect show stoppers were Bollywood’s hit star Ritesh Deshmukh in an ink blue vel-vet sherwani and pants with matching em-broidered kurta who strutted down the ramp with great style. The dashing star waited for his lady love, wife Genelia who entered from the audience in a luxurious brown Indian silk lehenga combined with a peplum blouse to a rousing applause from the audience.

When a girl wants to float in like a Goddess on her wedding day then Neeta Lulla’s extrav-agant bridal offering will ensure it in a very scintillating manner.

Your very own guide to New York’s top free attractions.

Metropolitan Museum of ArtKnown simply as The Met, this iconic museum on the eastern side of Central Park is so enor-mous you’ll be overwhelmed if you don’t nar-row your focus. The collection features Greek, Roman, African, ancient Egyptian and Byzan-tine galleries, as well as modern American art, paintings and sculptures of the European mas-ters – everyone from Rembrandt and Vermeer, to Van Gogh and Picasso. There are also mu-sical instruments, costumes, antique weaponry and body armour. Don’t miss the roof garden which has stunning views of the park and city skyline, and in summer a single artist sculp-ture exhibition. Order a wine (or hot chocolate in winter) from the café here, and pretend you have a home on Fifth Avenue. Weekends and around noon tend to be busiest, so come early morning or late afternoon during the week. En-try is officially free, but most visitors pay a small donation or the full recommended price.

American Museum of Natural HistoryOn the West side of Central Park, this epic mu-seum is a wonder of the natural world. From the enormous full-size model of the blue whale

suspended in space in the main atrium (watch the faces of the kids light up as they see it) to the giant space rocks in the Hall of Meteorites upstairs, entering here is another world. Vari-ous halls dedicated to birds, ocean mammals, earth’s many different biospheres - African des-erts to South American rain forests - and more, come alive in remarkable displays. My favourite: the Hall of Reptiles and Amphibians, where you can see poison dart frogs, a Galapagos giant tortoise, and two 10ft-long 200-pound Komodo Dragons that were brought to the museum from Indonesia in 1926. Weekends are very busy, as is summer when school is out. Try to come early morning or late afternoon during the week. Of-ficially free, but there are suggested admission fees.

Brooklyn BridgeCompleted in 1883 after an estimated 27 peo-ple died during its construction, the 1,595ft-long suspension bridge connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn over the East River is as iconic a sym-bol of the city as the Empire State Building. To walk or bike it, start at Center Street near City Hall, in Manhattan, taking in the views of Gov-ernors Island to the south, the Statue of Liberty beyond, and the Manhattan Bridge to the north. From the middle, you also get great views of the Manhattan skyline. Built out of limestone and giant granite rock shipped down the Hudson River from Maine, make sure to read the plaque on the bridge dedicated to Emily Roebling, her husband Washington, and her father-in-law,

John – the engineers behind what for years was an ill-fated project.

Governors Island

This 172-acre island south of the Brooklyn Bridge off the southern tip of Manhattan was opened to the public in the summer of 2009 and soon became one of the city’s most be-loved green spaces. On weekends and holiday Mondays between May and October, you can access it by water taxi from the Battery Mari-time Building (10 South Street) in Manhattan, or from DUMBO in Brooklyn. With bikes for hire, a beach, acres of lawns, and a 2.2-mile prom-enade around the perimeter, it’s perfect for a stroll, or an afternoon picnic taking in stunning views of Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Statue of Liberty.

Coney IslandTake the southbound F, D, N or Q subway trains to Coney Island (give yourself an hour) and you enter another world: Atlantic Ocean waves crash up on the shore, the famous Cyclone roller-coaster (part of the upgraded Luna Park) clatters above, and in summer the beach is filled with sunbathing urbanites. There are numerous circus sideshow acts – fire eaters, stilt walkers and the like to check out – and the Brooklyn Cyclones minor league baseball team play at the charming MCU Park, just off the Boardwalk. For lunch, order a hot dog at Nathan’s Famous (nathansfamous.com), the legendary hot dog stand at Surf Avenue. It holds Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest – an in-ternationally celebrated event since 1916.

Brighton BeachKnown as Moscow on the Hudson, this beach-front south Brooklyn suburb, accessed by the B and Q trains from Manhattan, is home to some 150,000 Russian and Ukrainian immigrants. In summer the sand is crowded with young, blonde sunbathers, while gold-toothed babush-kas shuffle past old men playing chess on play-ground benches just back from the shore. The boardwalk and backstreets are lined with doz-ens of Russian shops and restaurants, every sign in Cyrillic. Stock up on sausage, smoked fish and salmon caviar at the sublime M & I In-ternational Foods, and then dine on lamb ke-babs, caviar and vodka at legendary Tatiana (tatianarestaurant.com), a restaurant right on the boardwalk.

Grand Central TerminalThe sprawling Beaux Arts masterpiece in East Midtown, built in 1913, and taking up two en-tire city blocks, is more than a train station. The gorgeous, marble-floored Main Concourse, set under a dramatic 125ft-high ceiling painted with

a turquoise Mediterranean night-sky mural, is a destination in itself, and the four-faced Grand Central Clock in the middle of the concourse, made of brass and precious opal, is an iconic meeting point. Adjacent Vanderbilt Hall, the for-mer passenger waiting room, is now an exhibi-tion and event space, while the food concourse below ground features the glorious Grand Cen-tral Oyster Bar (oysterbarny.com), its Guasta-vino-tiled vaulted ceiling as old as the station itself. Kids will love the model trains in the Ter-minal’s transit museum.

Prospect ParkYou’ve seen Central Park and you love it; now check out Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux’s Brooklyn version, which they completed in the 1873, after designing Central Park. Lo-cated on the eastern border of fashionable Park Slope, and with views of New York Bay from its highest point, it’s a rambling 585-acre green space incorporating a forest, zoo, lake, boathouse, baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, miles of bike and running paths, and a bandshell, where big name acts perform during summer’s Celebrate Brooklyn (bricartsmedia.org/performing-arts/celebrate-brooklyn) se-ries. If it snows during your New York visit, buy a sledge and head out here, to join the locals zooming down the slopes above Long Meadow. Or if it’s warm, have a picnic on Long Meadow - that’s where everyone goes.

Time Warner CenterLocated at Columbus Circle on the south-west corner of Central Park, this sleek, 80-story, glass-and-steel complex, its twin towers con-nected by a greenhouse-like atrium, is an up-market multi-purpose shopping, office and resi-dential space. Tenants include CNN Studios, Michelin-starred restaurants Masa and Per Se, the Stone Rose Lounge, and the imperi-ous Jazz at Lincoln Center. Shops, over 100 of them, include high-end home goods store

Williams-Sonoma, luxury cosmetics group Sephora, jewellers D Fiori, and premium gifts and accessories outlet Davidoff of Geneva. No need to break the bank: if you get peckish grab some take-away from the Whole Foods Market on the ground level and take it to Central Park across the Circle.

9/11 MemorialThe gaping hole in the ground in Lower Man-hattan where the World Trade Towers once stood is finally close to being rebuilt. Rising even higher than the Twin Towers is the Daniel Libeskind-designed One World Trade Center, at 1.776ft (with spire), already the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Back on ground level, and already open to the public, the 9/11 Memorial consists of two giant reflecting pools surrounded by a forest of trees and with a wall inscribed with the names of those who died on 9/11. Admission is free but done on a timed res-ervation system while area construction is on-going. The official 9/11 Museum is set to open on the site in 2014, and will profile every victim of that fateful day.

Central ParkThe 843-acre green belt in the heart of Manhat-tan, featured in just about every movie shot in New York, has a zoo, two public ice rinks, a res-ervoir, a theatre, miles of paths, acres of grass-land perfect for picnics and ballgames and, not least, the romantic Loeb Boathouse Restaurant (www.thecentralparkboathouse.com). In winter, work up an appetite by joining the skaters at the Wollman Rink in the south-east corner, and in spring and summer catch an impromptu base-ball game south of the Sheep Meadow, take a romantic boat ride on the lake or read a copy of The New Yorker under a tree on the Great Lawn.

His the man behind some of the biggest chartbusters in Bollywood and has an impressive list of films to his credit like

Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Race and Dhoom. Music director Pritam Chakraborty, who cur-rently has his kitty overflowing with films - in-cluding Dhoom 3, Once Upon a Time in Mum-bai 2, Cocktail, Players, Agent Vinod, Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Race 2 - has decided to cut down on the number of projects he does. At the recent IIFA press meet he even announced that he is in talks with several Nashville Country music sing-ers and plans to collaborate with them at IIFA to be held in Tampa, USA.

You came, saw and conquered. Did you expect to achieve so much?

I have always taken one day at a time and done my best, worked hard. I have just held on to my invisible guide and only concentrated on doing my job to the best of my capacity.

Do you agree it is music which majorly contributes for a film to be a huge hit?

Music is definitely a big window for marketing films in India and successful music surely adds to a movie’s business.

To reach a global audience, do you think we can do away with songs?

Our brand of cinema is known for its song and dance and why should we follow the other cin-emas blindly? It’s a sign of maturity to keep our identity. We just need to concentrate on making good cinema.

How do you manage to turn every song into a huge hit?

That’s not true. I think when you work so much all the time, quality mein farak toh aata hain (quality tends to suffer). Last year, inspite of having Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani, Love Aaj Kal and Tum Mile, I also had some albums that I was not happy about. So when you do too much work, some albums are not up to the mark.

But every album of yours has been a hit. Months later, tracks from Ajab… are still popular, Golmaal Returns still works. Where has the quality gone down?

When you start working on something, you have a certain idea playing in your head; unless you reach that, you are never happy. E.g., in ‘Chor Bazaari’ (Love Aaj Kal), I reached the level that I wanted, but in some songs like say Dil Bole Hadippa title track or the song ‘Aiyaashi’ from Badmaash Company, had I had reached what I had set out for, these tracks would have done much better.

So have there been occasions when

you haven’t been happy with the song and wanted to work more on it but the director insisted it was fine and went ahead with it?

Oh yes, many a times. And I have been wrong several times too. E.g., I hate ‘Nagada Nagada’ from Jab We Met. When I sent the song to Imti-az (Ali) to shoot, I was constantly calling him up to say don’t shoot this song, it’s a terrible track.

Is it true that you don’t deliver on time?

I’m the epitome of disorganization and I’m criti-cal of my work. So I keep on remixing, re-dub-bing, etc. Like for my track Daru Desi in Cock-tail, before Shalmali Kholgade could finally sing the song, I had made 10 other girls do it. I was not getting the right voice… In the time I make one song, others can bring out five! That’s why I decided to go easy on my work!

With 100 films, are you scared there will be nothing original left?

The biggest challenge is that one should not end up sounding the same. For example, AR Rahman’s old music is very different from what it is now.

Which is the film that changed your ca-reer?

Dhoom! It altered things for me as I began re-ceiving more work and appreciation. Tum Mile was one of my favourite albums but that went unnoticed.

So from all the songs you have com-posed and films you have worked on,

Pritam Unplu

which are your favourites?

I like albums that have all romantic songs in them. Amongst my recent works, I like the al-bum of Tum Mile. But for some odd reason – maybe because they were all soft songs or there was too much music coming out at that time – it didn’t work as much as I was think-ing it would; but I like that soundtrack. It’s a personal favourite. Also Love Aaj Kal is a fa-vourite of mine but Love Aaj Kal became a hit so I don’t have any complaints. I also love ‘Tu Jaane Na’ from Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani. I have a complaint about Tum Mile because I wish it had become a hit.

There have been half a dozen plagia-rism allegations on you?

(Smiles) I can’t hear you. I can’t hear you. I can’t hear you. I can’t hear you.

A certain Sukhinder Shinda from Lon-don wants to sue you for lifting his composition for one of your bhangra-style tracks?

This allegation doesn’t deserve a comment.

A Taiwanese singer claims that the Zara zara (Race) composition was lifted from her song?

I haven’t heard anyone say this. Where are these people who claim I’m copying their songs?

Sandesh Shandilya claims that Aaoge jab tum in Jab We Met is his?

It’s his song. We’ve shared the credits every-where from the album sleeve to the award nominations. Originally, the idea was to have one composer per song. Then, Sandesh had to do the full album, which he did not. Then I was brought into the picture.

Recently, Mahesh Bhatt put up a photograph of yours with your son Salsa on Twitter. The smile on your face said so much. Has fatherhood changed you?

I won’t say that. And the reason for that is that I am a very bad father and I am a very bad husband. I am working all the time; I don’t give them any time. But you know! When I hug my son or daughter very tight, I feel some kind of peace within me. I can’t explain it. My son is very naughty and he doesn’t stay in one place ever! He’s constantly jumping around and I hardly meet him. I go home very late at night and by the time I get up; he’s off to his playschool. But whenever I see him, I immediately hug him very tight and I get a lot of peace.

And does your daughter have her daddy wrapped around her little fin-ger?

Not yet because she is only five months old. But I think that will be the case by the time she gets a little older. By then I will also be a little free because in this industry, no one can go on working like this all the time. This work-load has to come down and I am hoping in the next four to five years that should happen and then I will spend a lot of time with them.

Madra is a thick, yogurt based gravy that is a popular dish in Pahari or Himachali food. In my mother’s house, we make our Madra with chickpeas.

The most important step in making Madra is when you add the yogurt. You have to make sure that you stir continuously and do not allow the yogurt to curdle. This is a really crucial step or else you may have a disastrous gravy on your hands. If the yogurt seems to have curdled just a little bit, continue stirring the gravy and it will eventually thicken up and be fine.

Serves 6

Ingredients:

3 cups chickpeas, soaked overnight and boiled (or use canned chickpeas)Asafoetida (hing), a pinch2-3 cloves (laung)1 stick cinnamon (dalchini)2 pieces of black cardamom (moti elaichi)1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)2 tsp. coriander powder1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)2 cups yogurt ( beaten till smooth)2-3 tbsp ghee ( clarified butter) Rice Mixture

¼ cup raw white rice1 cup water1-2 pods of green cardamom

1. Soak ¼ cup rice in 1 cup of water and cardamom.2. Grind this mixture and set aside. METHOD:

1. Heat 2 tbsp. mustard oil to smoking point on medium heat.2. Add a pinch of asafoetida, 2 cloves, 1 stick cinnamon, and 1 black cardamom

seed.

1. Add 1 tsp. whole cumin seeds.2. Stir for 30 seconds and add the coriander powder and turmeric powder.3. Stir for 30 seconds (do not let it burn or blacken.)4. Add the chickpeas and stir well.5. Add the yogurt to pot and keep stirring continuously.6. Do not stop stirring or the yogurt will curdle. (Even if it curdles slightly don’t worry

as the gravy will even out as the dish thickens eventually)7. Stir continuously on medium heat for about 10 minutes.8. When it comes to a boil add the ground rice/water mixture.9. Stir the mixture very frequently and let it cook for about 20 minutes.10. Add 2 - 3 tbsp. of ghee (clarified butter)11. Turn the heat on low and cook the Mandra on a slow fire for about 30 minutes

stirring often until the entire mixture thickens.12. Add salt to taste and serve hot with white rice.
