Dear Parishioners,
Blessed Easter! Eternal Victory For they did not
yet understand the Scripture that he has to rise from
the dead. John 20:9
The apostles had lived with Jesus for years and
had heard His numerous explanations about his mission
and teachings. On at least three occasions, Jesus
personally informed His disciples He would die and
rise again. But when they encountered the empty tomb,
where Jesus had been buried, they did not yet grasp the
reality of the resurrection.
Today, on this Easter Sunday, with 2,000 years of
resurrection theology woven into our religious
teachings, we still are unable to fully understand this
tremendous resurrection event. Jesus had raised the
dead like the widow’s son and also his friend, Lazarus,
but in the case of Jesus Himself, we need to note the
difference between resurrection and restoration.
Lazarus was restored to his former life, to die again;
but in resurrection, Jesus rose to a new and glorified
life—never more to die. We share our Easter joy with
the victory of Jesus, a promise of eternal life—our
precious heritage. Fr. James Mc Karns
EASTER DAWN
It was yet dark when Mary reached
The shadowed garden, chill with gloom,
Coming with loved ones pierced with grief
To bring the spices to the tomb.
It was yet dark; she scarce could see
The sepulcher before her there,
And when she found the great stone moved,
Her sorrow seemed too great to bear.
The stone that had imprisoned Him
For three long days was rolled away!
It was yet dark, but even so,
A faint light showed the breaking day!
With darkness of the night dispelled
The woman heard words strangely sweet;
She turned and saw her Master near
And fell there sobbing at His feet.
Oh, wondrous joy beyond belief
For Mary then, with darkness gone,
To see upon the garden path
The newly risen Lord at dawn!
What a beautiful season of love to reflect on the
glory of the Resurrection of Our Lord.
Peace, Fr. Jim
