Advent Prayer

Blessing of a Christmas Manager

In its present form the custom

of displaying figures depicting

the birth of Jesus Christ owes its

origin to St. Francis of Assisi,

who made the Christmas creche

or manger for Christmas Eve of

1223.

God of every nation and people,

from the very beginning of creation

you have made manifest your love:

you sent your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary.

To our lives be brings joy and peace,

justice, mercy, and love.

Lord,

bless all who look upon this manger;

may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus,

and raise our thoughts to him, who is God~with~us

and Savior of all,

and who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen

event a success! I think all the parishioners who attended

enjoyed the festivities. It was a wonderful way to start the

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas

Feast Day in the USA – December 12

Prayer Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mystical Rose, remember, O most gra-cious Virgin of Guadalupe, that in your apparitions on Mount Tepeyac in Mexico, you promised to show pity and compassion to all who, loving and trusting in you, seek your help and protection. Never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, im-plored thy help, or sought they intercession was left unaided. In-spired with this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Mary, ever Virgin Mother of the True God. O Holy Mother of God, in thy mercy, hear and answer our prayers for our Church, our Families and our Country. We are full of hope that, relying on your help, nothing can trouble or affect us. As you have remained with us through your admirable image, so now obtain for us the graces we need. Amen. (Our Lady of Guadalupe/www.sancta.org)

Christmas Stockings for Covenant to Care Children

It has become a tradition for students in the religious education classes to provide Christmas Stockings for the children in DCF - Covenant to Care. The Social Worker associated with our parish, Dorothy Zyla, will come to pick up the Christmas Stockings the weekend of December 18, after the 11:30 Mass. The “Stockings” will be distributed the week before Christ-mas. Although this is a Religious Education Service Project, anyone in the parish may help as well. We welcome all who would like to make Christmas special for these children to bring a Christmas Stocking for one of the children. It can be very simple, nothing expensive is needed. It is heart-warming to know that because of your generosity, these children will have a very happy Christmas! We want to express our thanks to all of you, who choose to reach out to these children. This is truly love in action! We will have tables set up in the church hall, near the Children’s Liturgy of the Word area, clearly marked for DCF ~ Covenant to Care the week-end of December 17 & 18.

St. Lucy’s Feast Day – December 13

St. Lucy was a virgin martyr during the earliest centuries of Christianity. She is of such renown that she is one of the saints mentioned by name in the Roman Canon of the Mass, one of only seven female saints listed. Lucy (Lucia) means “light,” a fitting name for a young woman who was known for visibly radiating her love for Jesus Christ. Falling during the Advent Season, there are many beautiful traditions this saint has associated with her name. Her feast day is celebrated with candles, torches and even bonfires. Tradition holds that St. Lucy would wear a wreath of candles on her head as she served poor Christians hiding from persecution in the dark underground catacombs. Well known traditions of Italy, Sweden Scandanavia and are still celebrated today. St. Lucy’s Day is a great day to turn on the Christmas lights…. St. Lucy is the patron saint of light. “In thy patience thou didst possess thy soul, O Lucy, Spouse of Christ!”

A Candymaker’s Witness ~ The Peppermint Promise

Jesus, Gentle Shepherd, this cane of red and white proclaims the sweet love story born on Christmas night.

This cane, you see, when turned around begins your name of Love and now becomes a symbol of peace proclaimed above. This lively peppermint flavor is the regal gift of spice. The white is the purity of your virgin birth, and the red your sacrifice. And so this cane reminds us of how much you care and like your Christmas Gift to us it’s meant for all to share.

“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins.” Matt. 1:21
