Dear Friends in Christ,
Happy Easter!
“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and be baptized, every one
of you, in the name of Jesus Christ…” (Acts 2:38). The word
“repent” means to turn from sin, to change our actions. Change
that is permanent comes from within. It requires prayer, disci-
pline, and perseverance. Change is also hard. We have to rec-
ognize that we are broken and need help. The good news - we
are not alone in our journey. Ask Jesus daily for guidance and
patiently listen for his response.
I was amazed to learn that we will still be on quarantine
through the month of May. Please take care of yourself! I’m
Saint Aloysius Catholic Church A Discipleship Parish
becoming keenly aware of the fact that the secondary effects
of this quarantine are going to be with us for generations to
come. I’m not talking here about the virus as much as the
chemical abuse, spouse abuse, child abuse, suicide, etc. that
are already on the increase in our culture. If you are feeling
depressed or angry as a result of being quarantined, please
find professional help. Even taking a walk around the block to
clear our heads does wonders.
During the month of May too, my goal is to have me, and
Deacon Jim call each parishioner on our parish roster. So, you
can expect a “hey, how are you?” call from us. If you don’t
answer, we will leave a message. But there is no immediate
need for you to return the call. Besides hearing your news, we
will ask if there is anything, you’d like us to be praying for.
We pray for you daily.
It is painful to be in the hospital during these virus days. I
don’t need to remind you that I am prohibited from visiting
our folks in the hospital or Elder Homes on account of the
quarantine. Nonetheless, I would like to know what is going
on with you. The chaplains at the hospitals will tend to your
sacramental needs; the deacon and I will remember you at our
St. Aloysius Masses. Just call the office with your information
and Debbie will relate it to me. Thanks so much.
I would like to thank all of those who have kept up with their
weekly donations to the parish. Thanks too to those of you
who are making a larger sacrifice than usual during these days
of quarantine. Our financial situation continues to demand
attention and our Finance Council has been diligent. We have
cut back where we can (e.g. utilities, etc.), and are seeing oth-
er sources of funding where we can (e.g. PPP) but our vendors
continue to be regular in their billing as you might imagine.
Thanks to all who help us make St. Aloysius Parish financial-
ly solvent. God bless you richly!!
Besides our growing presence of Facebook we are doing more
and more information sharing on Flocknote.com. If you have-
n’t done so already, please join us on Flocknotes by visiting
Flocknote.com and follow the directions. It is simple and very
useful to use. Thanks for joining us there.
With or without the virus, I pray for each of you daily. Thank
you for your prayers.
… see you on-line!

As we continue to move forward with remote learning, please know, we will keep
you updated with information regarding grades, report cards, graduation, picking up
belongings, etc. The faculty and staff of St. Aloysius continue to be committed to our
families and are here for to help you in any way we can.
A huge thank you to Judy Pellman for her years of leadership with St. Aloysius Bin-
go! Unfortunately, we say “good-bye” to Judy and wish her well as
she resigns from this position in order to spend more time with her
family. May God continue to bless you and keep you close to His
heart, Judy. With Judy’s resignation, we now look for a new chair
of the Bingo program. The position requires a person who can mo-
tivate a team, work closely with the pastor and principal, trustwor-
thy with money, etc. St. Aloysius host Bingo every Saturday from
10:00am until 3:0pm at Caritas Bingo Hall. The leader would need to be there for
every session. Bingo has been a significant on-going fundraiser. If you, or someone
you know, might be interested, please contact Fr. Clint as soon as possible.
Our next All-School Liturgy will be May 5 at 8:00am. Everyone is invited to join us
online.
A big congratulations to Ms. Kutmas and all of our St. Aloysius artists chosen to par-
ticipate in the Catholic School Art Showcase at Little Flower this year! Special recogni-
tion goes to Shelby L. for receiving 1st place for 8th graders with her sculpture! Also con-
gratulation to the following students for their artwork ... Landyn K., Evan D., Stella F.,
Jayden B., Talia D., Aaralena B., Kendall S., and Izzy S. Unfortunately, we couldn’t have
the closing award ceremony due to COVID-19, we are so proud of our St. Aloysius Art-
ist !
Registration Deadline Extended...We are pleased to announce that we are extending
the $100 registration fee until the first week of May. While navigating the latest orders
from the Governor, we are also moving forward with our planning for the 2020-2021
school year. Thank you to those who have already submitted enrollment. We understand
that this is a difficult time for many of our families, especially financially. In order to
move forward with our planning, we’d like all registration to be complete
During this time of "social distancing”, what learning activities are you doing at home?
We want to see your at home learning in action! Please send pictures or videos to Mrs.
Reavis, Mrs. Daniels or your child’s teacher!
We continue to raise funds for the school through our Annual Fund campaign. Now, more than ever, we will be relying on our generous
donors and supporters to help see us through the financial effects the
coronavirus is having on our fundraising efforts. We are facing the
postponement or cancellation of several of our most important fund-
raisers, such as our Dinner and Auction. As you can see, our goal is
$15,000.00 and we are ALMOST there! What a milestone it would be
this year to not only meet our goal but to surpass it! Please visit
https://www.saintaloysius.org/annual-fund to donate!

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, an-
nounced a new community service starting
April 13 called the “Catholic Charities COPE Line” for people who are experiencing situa-
tional stress and anxiety related to the Corona-
virus Outbreak. This service is free of charge
and available to the public for people living in
the 28-county service area of the Springfield
Diocese. The Catholic Charities COPE Line is
not formal therapy or an emergency hotline. However, you will
be referred for a conversation with a qualified Catholic Charities
mental health professional who can help you with effective cop-
ing strategies. There are no fees, enrollment forms or application
processes. Calls are being accepted. To schedule an appointment,
call 217-321-8343. You will be asked to leave your name, phone
number, community of residence, and the best daytime hours to
reach you. A certified therapist will return your call within 1 busi-
ness day. As with all Catholic Charities programs, this service is
open to the public including people of all faiths, race, age and
individual circumstances. For more information about Catholic
Charities visit cc.dio.org.
Every Sunday evening at 7:00pm our church bells ring for one
minute, at the request of Mayor Jim Langfelder. The mayor sent
out word, "In a show of unity, along with giving thanks and grati-
tude to our healthcare workers and first responders, I am asking
for churches, synagogues, mosques, and other places of worship
in Springfield to ring out their bells at 7:00pm for 1 minute. We
will also be asking residents to ring bells from their homes as a
sign of collective support and encouragement." I am glad to do
this, and join in if you can. We have many parishioners who are
health care workers and first responders in our parish. God bless
them all!
Fourth Sunday of Easter... May 3 - “I Am the Gate.” Door-
ways and gates can protect those within. This is the image of
Jesus today – gate and protector, shepherd and guide. Let Psalm
23 fill our prayer every day this week. Because I am protected
by the Good Shepherd, whom will I protect this week?
How will I do it?
On what right paths will I let myself be guided?
What goodness and kindness will shine through my
thoughts and actions this week?
Thank You... The advertisements that appear in this bulletin
completely defray all publishing costs which
the church would otherwise incur. Please pat-
ronize the sponsors on the back of this bulletin
and thank them for their kind generosity.
Approval
Who are you trying to impress?
It’s a perennial question. One that usually gets an angry response –
“I’m not trying to impress anyone.”
Why do we get angry about that? Because you and I don’t like to
admit the truth. That we do what we do for the sake of someone
else’s approval.
Whether it’s our choice of career, the things we buy, or our choice of
appearance, we do what we do (at least in part) for status.
Status in the form of being different. Or having the best. Or being
accepted. Or having respect. Or being liked. Or having more follow-
ers.
All of which only matters if it’s validated by someone else. If some-
one else approves. If the want to be like us. Or they’re jealous.
If that’s our goal (and on some level, just about all of us are chasing
it), then we need to recognize that it comes at a price. Our peace.
If that’s what we’re chasing, we can never know peace. The more
we try to get there, the harder it gets to move any closer.
Because the approval of others is always a moving target.
Because no matter how superlative we become, there will always be
someone who is doing it better. Or is more authentic. Or is better
known.
We can never actually get there.
Like a hamster running on a wheel. Never getting any closer. No
matter how hard it runs. Or how fast it runs. Or how long it runs.
The hamster can never actually get there.
The only solution to the hamster wheel problem? Get off the hamster
wheel.
The only solution to the approval problem? Stop worrying about
doing things to get the approval of other people. Get off the hamster
wheel.
Accept the approval that you already have. From the only source that
matters.
Accept the approval that you already have. From the only source that
isn’t a moving target.
Accept the approval that you already have. From
God.

unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

During these days of the corona virus the usual avenues of generous giving to St. Al's par-
ish have been compromised. So, in response to our profound and continued financial need
