———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK——— !!Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
With the linkage in full swing, one of the big ques-
tions that needed to be determined concerned the Mass
schedule for the holidays. On Monday, representatives of St.
Ambrose, along with the OLGC Liturgy Committee, met to
talk about Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. It was
a good discussion, and while no solution is perfect, we are
going to try the following for this year and adjust as neces-
sary in years to come. Here’s what the committee decided, in
conjunction with myself: Thanksgiving Day Mass will be
held at St. Ambrose at 9am. On Christmas Eve, there will be
simultaneous 4pm Christmas Eve Masses. I will celebrate
one at St. Ambrose, while Fr. Ed Zandy will celebrate one at
OLGC. There will be a 6pm at St. Ambrose, and the Mid-
night Mass of Christmas will be held at OLGC. On Christ-
mas morning, there will be an 8:30 Mass at St. Ambrose and
a 10:30 Mass at OLGC. This year, because New Year’s Day
falls on a Monday, it is not a Holy Day of Obligation, how-
ever, we will celebrate one New Year’s Day Mass in honor
of Mary, the Mother of God, at 10am on January 1st at
OLGC.
Also discussed were some combined liturgical cele-
brations between both parishes. For example, Confirmation
will be celebrated by Bishop Cunningham for candidates of
both parishes at a special Mass on Saturday, November 4 at
6pm at OLGC, with a combined choir. And, in the season of
Advent, choirs will combine for a Service of Lessons & Car-
ols on Monday, December 11. With regard to choirs, I will
be making a push for new choir members, with special focus
on creating a 4pm choir, and boosting the choirs at all the rest
of Masses. And don’t worry about remembering all those
Mass times I mentioned. You will get constant reminders as
those celebrations approach. I simply wanted to give you an
idea of the process by which these decisions were made.
God bless and enjoy your week.
Fr. Michael

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
HOPE APPEAL: The 2017 Hope Appeal is winding down
and both OLGC & St. Ambrose are currently short their
respective assessments. OLGC assessed $49,053 is short by
$1,700. St. Ambrose assessed $40,165 is short by $13,700.
Please, if you have not given to Hope Appeal from your
respective parish yet, please do. The difference will have to
come out of our savings account. If you’ve never given,
something is better than nothing. The Hope Appeal funds
so many of the ministries of the Diocese that no one parish
is equipped to fund all by itself. We all benefit from the
Hope Appeal and it is our responsibility to see that we bear
our fair share of its cost.
~ Thank you, Fr. Michael

Religious Corner
Why Do Catholics Do That?
What is interior penance? It is the movement of a
"contrite heart" (Psalm 51:19) drawn by divine grace to re-
spond to the merciful love of God. This entails sorrow for
and abhorrence of sins committed, a firm purpose not to sin
again in the future and trust in the help of God. It is nour-
ished by hope in divine mercy. ! Why does the Church have the power to forgive sins? The Church has the mission and the power to forgive sins
because Christ himself has conferred it upon her: "Receive
the Holy Spirit, if you forgive the sins of any, they are for-
given; if you retain the sins of any, they are re-
tained" (John 20:22-23). !!WISDOM OF THE SAINTS: “No one is as good and
merciful as the Lord. But even He does not forgive the un-
repentant.” ~St. Mark the Ascetic
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from the Office of Family Life Education (A Hope
Appeal Agency)
Being unable to forgive another,
means we are holding onto a past wrong and hoping for a bet-
ter past. That is not going to happen. We must move on with
our life by accepting we were unjustly treated and it will not
be corrected. We aren’t condoning the injustice. We just
don’t let it control our lives any longer. Forgiveness is critical
to living a healthy life in the present.
