Pastor’s Letter Dear Parishioners, Today is the Feast of All Saints, which rarely falls on a Sunday—once every six or seven years, if not longer. I think many people misunderstand what it means when the Church, through the pope, canonizes a saint. The Church or the pope doesn’t make the person a saint. It is God who does that through His Son Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Sainthood begins with our baptism and culminates with our entry into heaven after our death and personal judgement. If we are saints in heaven, it is because of Jesus’ Sacrifice on the Cross and His glorious resurrection. It is because we are baptized into Jesus Christ and made members of His adopted family through the Church. It is because of the sanctifying Grace that is Jesus living in our souls that the gates of heaven are opened to us.

Of course, all of this is a gift from God. As we all know as Catholics, gifts are offered to us, not imposed upon us. We must receive the gifts that God offers. Salvation is offered; it is not imposed. At the canonization of a saint, who has been a worldwide

beacon of Catholic witness to the Church, the pope simply declares what God has accomplished for this person, that he or she is a saint in heaven. It is a definitive, formal, papal declaration. And since it is proclaimed from the “Chair of Saint Peter,” it is considered an infallible declaration too. But anyone in heaven is a saint, even if that person is relatively unknown. Perhaps the saint is only known to his or her family. Thus, there is no canonization ceremony, but the person is a saint nonetheless. All Saints’ Day is a celebration of each and every saint in heaven, known or unknown. It could be your mom, aunt, good friend, or someone else dear to you. Fortunately, the Church has no process to determine who is in hell. We’ll find that out at our final eternal destination, heaven or hell. This Tuesday is election day. I have already voted, and I know many of you have also. If you haven’t voted, please get out and do so. Don’t be the one who suppresses your vote! God willing, whoever is elected will have added grace to be pro-life from the moment of a human being’s life until natural death. As Catholics, we must all be on board with the Church’s teaching on the sanctity of human life and the right to life each person should be offered in our country. God bless you. Your Pastor, Fr. Allan

Prayer for the Canonization of the Georgia Martyrs

O Lord Jesus Christ, reward the apostolic zeal of Friar Pedro de Corpa and his four companion friars, Blas, Miguel, Antonio and Francisco,

who labored for the spiritual well-being of the native Guale people of Georgia and gave their lives in witness to the Christian faith. Through their merits and intercession graciously grant the favor I humbly ask of You, so that, for the glory of Your Name, their heroic sacrifice may be officially recognized by the Church. Amen. https://thegeorgiamartyrs.org/en/

Saint of the Week: St. Martin de Porres

(Feast Day: November 3) St. Martin de Porres was born to a freed slave in 1579

in Peru. His family was extremely poor. Martin wanted to be a Dominican, but thought of himself as far too unworthy for the religious life. Instead,

he became a “lay helper” so he could still participate in the Dominican life and serve the poor and the sick with great love. Because he was mixed-race himself

and experienced great social injustice, Martin worked to make sure that everyone, even the poor and

enslaved, were treated with dignity and cared for as children of God. Eventually, his brother Dominicans

asked him to make a full religious profession! St. Martin de Porres is the patron saint of racial harmony and social justice, as well as barbers and innkeepers.

Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love. —1 John 4:8

Our Hope and God’s Promise The Church uses these waning November days and darker skies as the season to remind us of the last things. Today’s feast, the Solemnity of All Saints, is the centerpiece of three days that point to doctrines we proclaim each time we say the Apostles’ Creed: “We believe in the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.” While the days and our hearts may be dark, the readings today are bright with the light of faith. John’s vision in the book of Revelation reveals dazzling angels and white-robed saints gathered in triumph around the throne of God. In the responsorial psalm, we sing our longing to see God’s face, and in the second reading John writes that we are God’s children and will, in fact, see God “as he is” (1 John 3:2). This is our hope. This is God’s promise. Today we celebrate the triumph of those who already gaze on the face of God. Tomorrow we cry out for mercy with those in purgatory, who, like us on earth, still long to see God’s face.

Election Day Adoration Open On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, there will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Martha Mary Chapel from 9:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m. between the two Tuesday daily Masses. Please join us in prayer for our country during these turbulent times.

NEWS | EVENTS | BITS Capital Campaign Corner As our Moving Forward in Faith Together Capital Campaign comes to an end, I want to thank the entire parish community for the opportunity to serve as your campaign director. It has been a blessing to meet many of you and to see St. Anne’s spirit alive in the hearts of its parishioners.
