Focus on Plan’s Implementation

Diocesan Vision: Encounter that Leads to Transformation

The vision for the Pastoral Plan, "Encounter that Leads to Transformation" describes the

"desired future" the people of the Diocese of Austin seek. It is the foundation upon which the

Pastoral Plan’s priorities and objectives are built.

At its heart, this vision contains two key elements: Encounter and Transformation. The

research, conversations and spiritual reflection that were part of the development of this plan

all led to the conclusion that as the Diocese of Austin encounters significant change in its

demographics and pastoral ministry there is a need for transformation to meet these

opportunities and challenges. The path to transformation begins with this encounter.

“We are only Christians if we encounter Christ … Only in this personal relationship with Christ,

only in this encounter with the Risen One do we truly become Christians … Therefore let us

pray the Lord to illumine us, to grant us an encounter with his presence in our world, and thus

to grant us a lively faith, an open heart and great love for all, which is capable of renewing the

world.”

Visión Diocesana: Encuentro que Lleva a la Transformación

La visión para el Plan Pastoral “Encuentro que Lleva a la Transformación” describe el “futuro

deseado” que los fieles de la Diócesis de Austin buscan. Esta es la base sobre la cual las

prioridades y los objetivos fundamentales del Plan Pastoral son construidos.

En su centro, esta visión contiene dos elementos clave: el Encuentro y la Transformación. La

investigación, las conversaciones y la reflexión espiritual que fueron parte del desarrollo de este

plan nos llevaron a la conclusión de que, mientras la Diócesis de Austin se enfrenta a un cambio

significativo en sus datos demográficos y en su ministerio pastoral, existe una necesidad de

transformación para aprovechar dichas oportunidades y retos. El camino hacia la transformación

comienza con el encuentro.

“Sólo somos cristianos si nos encontramos con Cristo … Sólo en esta relación personal con

Cristo, sólo en este encuentro con el Resucitado nos convertimos realmente en cristianos ... Por

THREE AREAS OF FOCUS: TRES ÁREAS DE ENFOQUE:

1. ENCOUNTER. It is through this profound encounter with Christ, and Christ in the other,

that we are formed, inspired and spiritually nourished. “Feed my sheep” (Jn 21:17).

2. MINISTRY. Our ministry, built upon encounter and transformation, embraces servant

leadership, inclusion, collaboration and invitational outreach. “So we, though many, are

one body in Christ” (Rom 12:5 3).

3. WITNESS. Our encounter and transformation leads us to be signs of God’s kingdom on

earth. We become disciples: people witnessing the joy of the Gospel “Make disciples of all

nations” (Mt 28:19)

1. ENCUENTRO. Porque es a través de este profundo encuentro con Cristo, y con Cristo en el

prójimo, que somos formados, inspirados y nutridos espiritualmente. Cristo dice: “Alimenten

a mis ovejas.” (Juan 21,17).

2. MINISTERIO. Cuando nuestro ministerio tiene como base el encuentro y la transformación,

entonces acepta el liderazgo como un servicio, la inclusión, la colaboración y la necesidad

de invitar a otros. “Así nosotros, siendo muchos, somos un cuerpo en Cristo.” (Rm 12,5).

3. TESTIMONIO. Consecuentemente, nuestro encuentro y transformación nos debe conducir

a ser señales del reino de Dios en la tierra. Nos convertimos en discípulos: gente que da

testimonio del gozo del Evangelio. “Por lo tanto, vayan y hagan discípulos de todas las

naciones.” (Mateo 28,19).

WHERE DO WE WANT TO BE? ¿DÓNDE QUEREMOS ESTAR?

Every good plan should help the community move to a "desired future." What is this desired

future for the Diocese of Austin? By the end of the four-year period this plan covers, the goal is

that Catholics throughout the Diocese of Austin might say something like the following:

We are a very different diocese than when we started this plan. After listening to people

throughout the Diocese of Austin we recognized a deep hunger for an Encounter with Christ.

We focused on this Encounter and we were led to a powerful Transformation individually and

as a Catholic community. Through this Encounter we put Christ at the center of our lives. The

value of which cannot be underestimated…

Cada buen plan debe ayudar a la comunidad a moverse hacia un “futuro deseado.” ¿Qué futuro

deseamos para la Diócesis de Austin? Porque al final de los cuatro años que cubre este plan, la

meta es que los católicos de la Diócesis de Austin puedan decir algo como lo siguiente:

Hoy día somos una diócesis muy diferente de la que éramos cuando empezamos con este plan.

Después de escuchar a la gente de la Diócesis de Austin reconocimos una hambre profunda por

un Encuentro con Cristo. Al enfocarnos en ese Encuentro con Cristo nos movimos hacia una

Transformación tanto como individuos y como comunidad Católica. A través de ese Encuentro

pusimos a Cristo en el centro de nuestras vidas. El valor de esto no puede ser subestimado….

GUIDING PRINCIPLES // PRINCIPIOS FUNDAMENTALES

In the process of creating this plan a series of principles were identified to guide its

implementation. These principles reflect the important realities, values and best practices that

must always be addressed.

En el proceso de crear este plan, una serie de principios fueron identificados con el propósito

de guiar su implementación. Estos principios reflejan las realidades importantes, valores y

buenas prácticas que siempre deben ser abordados.

FORMATION AND SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT

1. The first task of evangelization and catechesis is to connect people with Jesus Christ by

nurturing and strengthening their relationship and encounter with Christ lived through the

Church community.

2. Christian formation is directed to all people and takes place at all times in a person’s life,

including those who minister within the Church.

3. Evangelizing Formation nurtures the faith of people in the pews, reaches out to inactive

Catholics and extends an invitation to come and see to non-Catholics.

4. The desired outcome of formation, worship and discipleship is a lived Christian witness in

everyday life that propels us to announce the good news and serve our sisters and

brothers on the periphery of society.

FORMACIÓN Y SUSTENTO ESPIRITUAL

1. La primera tarea de evangelización y catequesis es conectar a la gente con Jesucristo al

nutrir y fortalecer su relación y su encuentro con Cristo los cuales se viven en la

comunidad parroquial.

2. La formación cristiana es para toda la gente y debe ser constante a través de la vida de

una persona, incluyendo aquellas personas que realizan algún ministerio en la Iglesia.

3. La Formación Evangelizadora nutre y fortalece la fe de la gente en las bancas de la

iglesia, sale al encuentro de los Católicos inactivos y extiende una invitación a los no-

católicos para que nos visiten.

4. El resultado que se busca como fruto de la formación, del culto y del discipulado es un

testimonio Cristiano vivido durante la vida cotidiana que nos impulse a anunciar la buena

nueva y a servir a nuestros hermanos y hermanas que se encuentran en los márgenes o

en la periferia de la sociedad.
