MEDITATION FOR FEBRUARY 23, 2020 Strive for perfection in love.

Jesus expands on the law that His followers knew well. As God loves all people with partiality-the bad and the good, the just and the unjust-so are all who follow Him to do. Certainly this can be difficult, but it is not impossible. For by Christ’s sacrifice, we have been made children of the Father. With His

help, and God’s grace, we are capable of striving for the perfection in love to which we are called.

In Leviticus, the Lord declares His statutes to Moses for the Israelites, calling them to holiness and love. In our second reading, Paul instructs the Corinthians, calling them to holiness as temples of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel from Matthew, Jesus preaches a new standard of love and justice, calling His followers to love their enemies.

INTENTIONS OF OUR HOLY FATHER We are invited to unite with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for this universal intention during the month of February.

Listen to the Migrants’ Cries. That the cries of our migrant brothers and sisters, victims of criminal trafficking, may be heard and considered.

“But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” Matthew 5:44

Love your enemies, easier said than done, no doubt. But, re-member, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away from “me” and moves it towards God and others. It allows us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy”. When we pray for others, even “our enemies”, maybe it softens their hearts as well. February 16th $19,558.50

Thank you for taking Our Lady on a journey through our parish.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS- ADVENT PROJECT

We would liked to express our deep gratitude to the students of St. Augustine School, of the Religious Education Program, and their families for being true stewards of the Lord. The Advent collection that took place this year totaled: $1,627.00. This donation has shown the loving solidarity we have with the children of the Brazilian mission located in Miracatu, of the Religious Teachers Filippini. May the Lord continue to bless all of you for your care and compassion for God’s people who are less fortunate than we are.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION OUTFITS If anyone has new or used (clean) First Holy Communion dresses, veils, dress socks, white gloves, white sweaters, and especially boy’s suits, and communion book sets to donate to those in need for the clients of the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry in Perth Amboy, as well as other needy children in the Catholic Community of Perth Amboy, please drop the items off at the Outreach Ministry office in the Parish Center before April 3rd. Monetary donations toward the Communion outfits are also acceptable. As in the past, they particularly need dresses and boy’s suits sizes 10 through 16. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Outreach Ministry at 732-297-9713. Thank you for our continuous support to these families. -Outreach Ministry

THE EASTER MYSTERY From His Wounded Side We Were Born This is the time of year when we begin to look forward to warmer weather and spring vacations. It is also the time of year when we pause to see where we’ve been and where we should be going. It is the time to recommit ourselves to the Lord.

During Lent, you will notice a basket with decorated index cards by the cross of St. Lucy starting on Ash Wednesday, February 26th, 2020. Listed on each card is a suggestion of a necessary item to be purchased for an organization that helps those in need. These items will be collected before all the weekend Masses on, February 29/March 1, March 7/8, March 14/15. This is our way as a parish to reach out to others through “almsgiving”, one of the spiritual blessings of our Lenten journey. All donations need to be in by Sunday, March 22th, 2019 Anything received after that date will be given to our Food Pantry.

As St. Theresa of Avila said: “We should not attach much value to what we have given God, since we shall receive for the little we have bestowed upon Him much more in this life and in the next.”

We Adore You O Christ and We Praise You, Because By Your Holy Cross You Have

Redeemed the World

KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PARISH OFFICE

Are you new to the area? Are you a registered member of the parish?? Are you moving???

If you have recently moved into the area and have not yet registered in the parish, we encourage you to become a registered member. You may do so in a variety of ways: you can ask an usher for a registration packet after Mass; by stopping by or calling the Parish Office to obtain a registration packet. Once registered, you will receive quarterly mailing of parish offertory envelopes.

The use of an Offertory envelope helps us to track Mass attendance which affects your status as an active or inactive parishioner. Mass attendance, not the content of the offertory envelope, is reviewed twice a year and a letter is sent to those who have not used their envelopes in a specified time period.

It is necessary to be an ACTIVE, REGISTERED member of the parish in order to obtain Sponsor Letters which are needed to act as Godparents for Baptism or Sponsors for Confirmation. Sponsor letters cannot be given to those considered inactive (or not registered). We also ask that anyone seeking to be married in our church or to baptize a child be registered in the parish. If you are moving out of the parish, please contact the office around the time of your move so we may change our records accordingly and avoid sending you envelopes you don’t need.

Any questions, please call the Parish Office, 732-297-3000.
