THE SACRAMENTAL LIFE OF OUR CHURCH THE SACRAMENT OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS Saturday: Vigil - 5:00 PM Sunday Schedule: 8:00AM 10:00AM
12 NOON 5:00 PM Weekdays: Monday through Saturday: 9:00 AM Holy Day: See Schedule in Bulletin
COMMUNION TO THE SICK is taken by Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist on a regular basis to those confined to their homes. Please call the Parish Center.
THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM is celebrated on most Sundays at 1:30 PM (not during Lent). A family must be registered in the parish, attend the baptismal preparation class, and cooperate with the regulations established by the parish. Our baptismal class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8:00 PM. Please call the Parish Center to register any time during your pregnancy.
THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is celebrated on Saturday between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Chapel or by appointment.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION is celebrated once a year, here at St. Augustine. A candidate must successfully complete our Religious Education program. Adult Confirmation is held on Pentecost Sunday and any interested adults should contact the Parish Center.
THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered at home to any Catholic who is seriously ill. Please call the Parish Center. Any parishioner admitted to a local hospital should contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplain through the hospital. A family member should contact the parish when someone is admitted to the hospital. We will gladly pray for any members who are sick, whether at home or in the hospital, at our Sunday Masses; however, it is necessary for the family to “request” it.
THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY is celebrated by the Pastor or one of our deacons. Weddings may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. Only a ceremony is permitted on Sunday. The pastor will confirm the date so couples should contact the Parish Center at least ONE YEAR in advance. All the necessary information will be sent to you. The attendance at Pre-Cana or an Engaged Encounter Weekend is required. One must be a registered member of the parish. Our parish upholds the Gospel values and the Church’s teachings regarding the sacredness of marriage and those couples choosing to live together in contradiction of those values, will receive a simple ceremony and all Diocesan regulations followed.
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS and RELIGIOUS LIFE: If you are considering serving God as a priest, deacon, or religious, you may contact your parish priest, deacon, or religious; or phone the Diocesan Office of Vocations at (732) 562-1990.

“For behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last.” Luke 13:30
Our standards in society are different from God’s standards. We often rank people by what they have, how powerful they are, or how successful they are. Jesus reminds us that God will not judge us by the same earthly standards. When God asks you, “what have you done with the gifts I have given you?” How will you respond?

MEDITATION FOR AUGUST 25th, 2019 Strive to enter through the narrow gate. Today we are given fair warning by Jesus that we should strive earnestly to enter the kingdom of God, and not simply assume a place will be reserved for us. So let’s make an effort, as we travel the path of d iscipleship. To travel l ightly, unencumbered by necessary attachments to the things of this world.
In the first reading. God proclaims that He comes to gather all nations. The second reading exhorts the Christian community not to disdain discipline, as it originates from God’s love. In the Gospel from Luke, Jesus tells His followers to strive for salvation through the narrow gate.

ATTENTION LADIES… AN AUTUMN RETREAT BY THE SEA
A retreat by the Shore! As Summer is ending and Fall is on its’ way, the kids are back in school and before the holidays are upon us, what could be better than to take the opportunity to spend some time for yourself on Retreat at the Jersey shore? This year, the retreat will be Friday evening, September 27 to Sunday afternoon, September 29 at St. Joseph’s by the Sea in Mantoloking, NJ. It is a beautiful house on the beach run by the Religious Teachers Filippini, which is fully air-conditioned, featuring private rooms with full bath accommodations between rooms.
Join us with Daria Hartman, Facilitator, on an introductory, nothing strenuous, no yoga experience necessary retreat. The yoga sessions are easy and some can be done sitting in a chair. She adds “If you want to participate in a session or two, or just spend the weekend in your robe and slippers and be pampered, have a room to yourself, read a book, walk the beach, enjoy meals prepared for you and just BE. There is no need to DO. We are human beings, not human doings. We do sun salute in the morning but some just like to sit and watch and just listen. The Spirit of God is asking amazing women to gather in this beautiful, peaceful setting to find out how they can transition, just as the seasons transition, in the colorful, whimsical, loving flow of Life. Come to experience the freedom and Peace Jesus had in mind. Come to be yourself.” Mass & prayer time will be part of the weekend.
Cost is $260 for the weekend, which includes Friday night subs, Saturday and Sunday meals. Space is limited, so reserve your space soon by emailing Kim Malerba at [email protected] or calling Kim at 973-476-4275. A $100 deposit is required for the weekend. Checks payable to St. Joseph’s by the Sea. All women are welcome, parishioners and non-parishioners, so bring a friend along.
Come away with us, experience the beauty of the shore and the serenity of the sea and refresh your spirit.
Confirmation Candidates, please pick up your Growing in Faith books. They are on the table in the Parish Center.
Our St. Augustine Parishioners are cordially invited to celebrate their 25th or 50th Wedding Anniversary
and renew their marriage vows with Bishop James F. Checchio at a special Evening Prayer Service, Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at 4:00 PM.
Registration is required and should be done online at: diometuchen.org/silver-and-gold.
If you are unable to access or have any questions or concerns, please contact Angela Marshall, at the diocese, in the Office of Human Life and Dignity, 732-562-1990, ext. 1543 or [email protected] or www.diometuchen.org
Registration will close on October 11, 2019. Although no fee is required, in the past many Jubilarian couples have given a donation of gratitude to the Church in memory of this special occasion. Donations of Gratitude may be made online or calling 732-562-1543.

“The Way of St. Juan Diego” Saturday, September 21, 2019
During this Year of Spiritual Awakening we are setting out on this one day walking pilgrimage as part of our preparation for the consecration of the diocese to Our Lady of Guadalupe in December. The particular grace that we are asking Our Blessed Mother to gain for us is a new outpouring of the Gift of the Holy Spirit, as on the day of Pentecost, so that we can be empowered to “set a fire in the heart of our world!” Bishop Checchio recognizes that spiritual renewal among the baptized is crucial for a new work of evangelization to commence in the diocese and for this reason he convoked this year and the consecration. We invite everyone of able body to make this one-day 9-mile pilgrimage in beautiful Hunterdon County in preparation for the consecration of the Diocese of Metuchen to Our Lady of Guadalupe, particularly our youth and families. Registration forms and details are available in the Parish Office.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC?
Or perhaps you are a baptized Catholic who never completed the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist). The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is just
for you! Gather with others who desire to know the Lord Jesus Christ in the truth of the Catholic Faith, as we un-dergo catechesis, reflect on the scriptures, and contem-plate our call to faith in Christ in preparation for Baptism and/or reception and completion of the Sacraments of Initiation. Meetings are held on Sundays at 8:00 am in Father McGivney Hall (followed by 10:00 am Mass). If you are interested in getting connected, please call the Parish Center at 732-297-3000. Deacon Denis
KEEP IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PARISH OFFICE
Are you new to the area? Are you a registered member of the parish?? Are you moving???
If you have recently moved into the area and have not yet registered in the parish, we encourage you to become a registered member. You may do so in a variety of ways: you can ask an usher for a registration packet after Mass; by stopping by or calling the Parish Office to obtain a registration packet. Once registered, you will receive quarterly mailing of parish offertory envelopes.
The use of an Offertory envelope helps us to track Mass attendance which affects your status as an active or inactive parishioner. Mass attendance, not the content of the offertory envelope, is reviewed twice a year and a letter is sent to those who have not used their envelopes in a specified time period.
It is necessary to be an ACTIVE, REGISTERED member of the parish in order to obtain Sponsor Letters which are needed to act as Godparents for Baptism or Sponsors for Confirmation. Sponsor letters cannot be given to those considered inactive (or not registered). We also ask that anyone seeking to be married in our church or to baptize a child be registered in the parish.
If you are moving out of the parish, please contact the office around the time of your move so we may change our records accordingly and avoid sending you envelopes you don’t need.
Any questions, please call the Parish Office, 732-297-3000.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
The St. Augustine Knights of Columbus Council #6345 will be celebrating their annual halfway to St. Patrick’s Day dinner
